yalogin··on Anthropic's internal AI use, at retail prices, now exceeds its employee pay
So the ai tool cost as much as an engineer. Note that anthropic pays a much higher salary than the average tech company. So how are they selling these tools to companies? I understand time to market is the advantage, but why should the non-software companies adopt this?
yalogin··on US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears
The main takeaway is investors are really spooked and any negative news is amplified in the stock sell off
yalogin··on No signs of AI payoff outside the tech sector
Are people on here still arguing that these tools are not a good ROI for SW engineering? IF someone has a good argument for it I would love to hear it
yalogin··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
I have been trying to find a good solution for photos but never came across this. I will look into this
yalogin··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
If anything I am surprised they haven’t done this till now. When they gave no option to opt out of having our Gemini chats to not be used for training it was clear Google took a turn to be bold and aggressive about using user data. It was the sign to move away
yalogin··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
I think the answer is overtime I expect them to integrate a lot of the llm based businesses as an add on or option. For example, they can easily provide a healthcare vertical and absorb all of that business. They have a lot of momentum and so establishing that relationships will be easy across verticals for these companies. Just like how Apple and android started adding functionality from successful apps as a feature on their platform, I expect these llm companies to also do. Right now they are trying to focus purely on their llm improvements and quality, but once they IPO, and they need to show growth yoy they will absorb a lot of current use cases other companies are working on
yalogin··on Ousted Savannah police officer gave ICE agent husband access to Flock system
As long as people fall for scare tactics and don’t actually reason to think and demand proper solutions from politicians, these will continue. From a politicians perspective, there is no roi in fixing problems, the damn people will just want more. Instead, just scare them and pit one group against the other and that is reusable and scales very well. That’s what we have today.
yalogin··on Tesla Roadster
There are no prices anywhere, I guess if I have to ask for the price I am not invited to buy this :)
yalogin··on New Apple TV 4K
Not a little, am a lot surprised. It started at $79 and then bumped to $150 and now doubled again to 300. Definitely was not expecting this jump.
yalogin··on Apple HomeView
The screen is fixed though. You have to huddle around the device where as the phone can be passed around. Homeschool can be done through Apple TV or iPhone.
yalogin··on MIT class project turns into an FDA-cleared treatment for tremors
Very interesting, I worked on something very similar for tremors, just didn’t take it to a product or a startup for reasons. Glad to see someone did it
yalogin··on Apple HomeView
Wonder what the real use cases for this are. How often does this get used once the novelty wears off? If they have to resort to “find me a restaurant “ as part of the launch demo, I don’t have a lot of hope for it.

I know Apple will get the security right, no question. So I would use it but not sure it’s worth it. I don’t see a compelling use case personally

yalogin··on Ideas aren't getting harder to find (2022)
It’s not that ideas are exhausted but there is a lot of development and we are building layers on top of layers. So one needs to be familiar with them and fully familiar with the outer most layer to generate new ideas, because new ideas utilize and extend this outer most layer.
yalogin··on Meta’s Muse is an adorable privacy and security dumpster fire
Using an encrypted VM is standard but the encryption is the core issue. Just plain encryption will allow them to proclaim it’s all secure/private. But that is where I don’t trust Meta. Are they using a different key for every user? They are not claiming that meta cannot and will not see the data. Can they say that the user data is not exfiltrated for their own training and analysis? Are they claiming that their developers cannot see user data? What happens when a government request comes? What happens when a bug happens and their admins and devs need to debug? What about a rogue dev/admin?

I don’t trust meta will do any of this

yalogin··on America.gov
I am sure a lot of folks tested it but the ai says Biden won the 2020 elections, they did not try to change that or add any qualifiers to the answer like all of the government officials nominated answered with.
yalogin··on Apple's Siri AI Can Be Swapped Out for Claude, ChatGPT, Code Shows
What does a full integration of claude or openAI models into the phone even mean? What additional functionality can one get and what are those use cases? Does it actually pull in more users to the voice/Siri interface? I mean even with vastly superior models, does it move the needle enough to attract more users?
yalogin··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
Why is OpenAI getting away with this crap? They are clearly failing to control their code. If someone did this pre-AI or even ran the exact same set up as openAI did and hacked another site, they would be in jail. OpenAI is not even issuing an apology, they are happily blaming AI and weirdly using this to tout their progress even.
yalogin··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
How is this expected to work? How is meta going to get access to my data on a phone? Did they build all the integrations needed for every app? This doesn’t look good for privacy, I don’t trust meta at all.
yalogin··on AirPods 5
Isn’t Apple expected to release AirPods with cameras in them? Or may be the rumor is they are working on it?
yalogin··on 'Idiocracy' Predicted All of This
I watched it around the time it released or may be on dvd. I remember thinking the premise is great but the situations are way too exaggerated for comedy and in some ways the movie tries too hard for laughs. Looking back and comparing with today, I would say he did not exaggerate it enough!! To start, he said the country devolves in 500 years, hardly took 20.
yalogin··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
This one doesn’t mention tourist visas, so I am guessing they will be issued? I don’t get what benefit they see by inconveniencing and potentially harming folks that are already in the country legally to just live their lives. I get that this administration’s goal is to completely shut down all immigration and potentially even remove folks here legally too but there will be a cost to bear for the country because of that. It will be slow to come and so they will be able to blame it on the next administration
yalogin··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
Meta’s stock gained 32billion in value just today on the news. So it’s not even noticeable for them
yalogin··on I'm becoming AI-blind
Interesting. One needs to be exposed to a certain level of AI flows to become numb to them. Wonder how they read to someone who isn’t exposed yet.
yalogin··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
I have already moved away from anthropic for debugging and design in general and this will force me to look elsewhere for coding too
yalogin··on Meta Ran Ads That Contained AI-Generated Child Sexual Abuse Imagery
Even if they are caught and it’s illegal, as long as the fine for it is less than the roi of running them the companies will not stop.
yalogin··on Microsoft's AI Sales Mostly Come from OpenAI, Disclosures Show
What does this mean in the larger landscape though? Every company is using AI or trying it out, are they not using the cloud services for it? If so is it still not a big enough pie to show?
yalogin··on Twenty-five years ago it was cryptography, today it's model weights
Yes I wasn’t questioning that the market and government is controlled by the AI companies. What I am saying is that cannot be a moat. If anything it will be an anchor that will pull these companies down. If anything that is a signal that they don’t have a moat
yalogin··on Twenty-five years ago it was cryptography, today it's model weights
Sorry this is not true at all. O Those are just corrupt, incompetent practices by an idiot who is drunk on power. It has nothing to do with AI. This is not an answer at all. You tried to shove a square peg into a round hole for what reason. I don’t know
yalogin··on Twenty-five years ago it was cryptography, today it's model weights
With these models, what is the moat? Is it the architecture itself or the training data? Why can’t China create these models themselves? It just feels like theater to restrict models. Can someone tell me why I am wrong if I am?
yalogin··on AI's top startups are barely publishing their research
How much research is a startup expected to do? Isn’t the point of a startup to accelerate productizing research? Unless they are multi billion dollar “startups” do we even expect any research out of them?
