yannk··on Find SF parking cops
Actually... those fees are outdated. It jumped to me because for the first time in years I got a fine for "parking on grades" - Somehow I was distracted and turned my wheels the opposite direction.

So I found the fees for July 2025[1]. My fine was $108 and not $68

But also they made errors in publishing their fees, they claimed it didn't increase this year, but it did [2] - and asked the AI to find all the other inconsistencies.

So now I wonder if I should ask for $40 back. That's a dramatic increase, and seems like the intent was it to stay at $68

Thanks for the link Andrew, it looks like a good show!

Not on the list: "Oh, it's just my OCD" -- Either you have been diagnosed (and consequently suffer from OCD) or you have an obsessive personality (sometimes a quality).

But OCD is a diagnosis, abusing it do describe a personality trait doesn't serve the many many people impacted by the disorder.

yannk··on Paypal has not been sending payment notifications to merchants
That's not my experience, validating the data has always worked by just spitting it back out to them without any alterations to the data.

Here is my solution to the encoding issues, let me know if it works for you (assuming your environment let you access the body of the request without parsing it, or already knows how to parse it correctly).

yannk··on Paypal has not been sending payment notifications to merchants
I banged my head pretty hard on this recently, but afaict I have a working solution. I wish this had been better documented. One problem I faced is that I had to fiddle with Flask to make it work (Python user here). I'll post my setup somewhere tomorrow and comment back here.

I'm tempted to both agree with you and curse at you.

Yes, I agree with the idea of enforcing backward compatibility as much as possible and, when that fails, make it a social problem (documentation, email, advance notice...).

But being in the midst of one of those PayPal integration... oh my, what a mess!

* The sea of DEPRECATED in the documentation (hide it away?)

* The pervasive inconsistency in everything

* The choice of x-www-form-urlencoded for IPN data... (I'm trying to figure out some charset bug at the moment)

Anyway... :) No hard feelings!

yannk··on Google employee shouts down protesters as they block private Google shuttle
I hope whatever comes out of this mess, is some positive change for everyone.

I'm annoyed at shuttles (not sure which company) at the Caltrain station which park in the townsend st. bike lane every single evening, making it dangerous for cyclists. This intersection is sufficiently messy as it is.

yannk··on Jenkin developers accidentally do "git push --force" to over 150 repos on github
It would be nice if Github was giving a UI control over force-push behavior. If you open a ticket they'll manually flip this repository settings on or off for you, but still... Maybe this is the wake up call: it's dangerous and doesn't scale?
