ycombinete··on Tiny possum and glider thought extinct for 6000 years found in remote West Papua
From what I can find, that video only contains per-expedition video. So the likelihood that he actually went is itself under doubt.

There's a new steam set coming out that looks excellent: https://store.steampowered.com/hardware/steamframe
ycombinete··on Delta’s Biscoff cookies were supposed to be temporary
Biscoff milkshakes on the other hand don't seem to take up any space in the stomach.
ycombinete··on Hiking the world in search of rare cheeses
Do you think cheese is unique in this regard, or part of a special class of product? Or is that just the hidden cost of all our niceties?
ycombinete··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
Exactly! I actually used call them Saturday headaches.

I rarely get them nowadays though, since my toddler ensures that I rarely get uninterrupted sleep.

ycombinete··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
I'm not sure if it's a circadian thing, but I have ADHD and have a strange issue related to sleep.

If I sleep for 8 hours or more I get hypnic headaches, and massive all-day migraine-like headaches.

I have to sleep a max of 7 hours a night. Always feel slightly tired, but the alternative is headaches.

Was that a Dungeon Crawler Carl reference?

At first I thought perhaps it was a non-h20 liquid, since that would explain the frozen bits on the bottom.

Bit apparently it’s more banal, and sediment doesn’t need a river or a liquid at all. It’s any kind of deposit. So wind can deposit sedimen, volcanic ash is sediment glaciers deposit it etc.

Ironically you can now have Gemini summarise YouTube videos for you within the YouTube app/website.

Audio doesn’t seem to play on Safari, iOS.
ycombinete··on The Lamentable Later Life of Lemmings
You just solved a decade/s old personal mystery!

I randomly saw an episode of some show with these doozers maybe 20 years ago, and I have occsionally remembered them and wandered who they were ever since!

ycombinete··on Weeping whales: Stillborn humpback whale grieving documented
From the link in your parent: "Jeffrey passed away five weeks after the surgery at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center."

It's only a Bishop in a small number of cultures, and is still called Elephant more often than not:

This one drives me particularly crazy.
ycombinete··on Romania soccer introduces black card to 'combat abusive behaviour' from parents
One can imagine overzealous parents tactically causing a scene to nullify a match result.
ycombinete··on Show HN: Bodily Oddities
I used to have something like this as an adolescent/teenager, but while I was awake. It’d feel like my whole body became enormous and numb, and if I closed my eyes I’d see cascading geometric shapes collapsing in on themselves, and it would feel like I was falling constantly.

So I’d just slowly put my head on the desk and ride it out until I was returned to my body

ycombinete··on A Stupid Idea for AI Alignment We Came with by Looking at Specification Gaming
> [sic; British]

Is a remarkable bit of trolling.

ycombinete··on Harvard study predicts most suicide attempts a week in advance
Fair enough. I suppose it could change how one even enters the water.
ycombinete··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
I think the first step is to be wealthy and have no kids. That way you have tons of free resources, and tons of free time, and enough free space.

I know plenty of people with enough friends to fill a little LAN like this. And setting one up is fairly cheap, if you don't want to build a house just for it, (a few switches and some cables); but not many adults I know have enough time or free enough calendars to get together for such an event more than once a year.

ycombinete··on Harvard study predicts most suicide attempts a week in advance
Surviving a fall from a bridge is not survivorship bias.
ycombinete··on 2026 Hugo Awards
That's what I was thinking! I was sure my parent meant GoT.

But there can't be many metrics at all where GoT beats out HP for the title of "biggest fantasy series of our time".

ycombinete··on 2026 Hugo Awards
What is the biggest fantasy series of our time?
ycombinete··on Whistleblower warns Postal Service mail ballot system has catastrophic problems
That's a global thing. Postal services are very expensive public services. Low hanging fruit for cost savings.
ycombinete··on Simulacra and Simulation
I always enjoy the moment in The Matrix where Neo flops a hollowed out copy of this book open, to fish out some illicit mini-disc he’s storing in it.
ycombinete··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots

It's the irl version of being accused of hacking in Counterstrike.
ycombinete··on How do wombats poop cubes?
It’s probably selected for. We’re pokers by natural selection.
ycombinete··on Most arguments are about ego, not ideas
If you enjoyed TRM, his other book The Happiness Hypothesis surprisingly covers this and other concepts in much better detail relative to the OP.
ycombinete··on On cigarettes
Old enough!? I'm old enough to remember that and I'm only... nearly 40, damn.
