yeezul··on Apple Readies MacBook Pro, MacBook Air Revamps
I believe that's the correct answer.

However I still wish they'd be able to get the bezel down to the size of an XPS 13

yeezul··on Apple Readies MacBook Pro, MacBook Air Revamps
I think since they've managed to minimize the screen bezel, they can fit a 14" screen in the body of an older 13" and a 16" in the body of an older 15"?

yeezul··on How Stripe Designs Websites (2017)
Agreed.

If I somehow end up on a similar looking website, I'd often close it and move on to the next result on Google.

My brain automatically associate that UI with an archive website that probably hasn't been uploaded since 2005ish.

yeezul··on How Stripe Designs Websites (2017)
> What if we think of design as not what something looks like, but rather how it works?

Wouldn't that be UX and not necessarily UI?

yeezul··on Photos Show the Staggering Food Bank Lines Across America
Lot's of what we (most other first world countries) take for granted is not present in the US.

Health care insurance for example can eat a good chunk of that 3.6kUSD: the average cost of individual health insurance premiums is $440 for an individual and &1,168 for a family, in 2018 according to eHealth [1]

yeezul··on Why I'm open sourcing the financial side of my business
On a side note, I love his blog. Not sure if he's using a platform or not, but love the simplicity of it.

That blog page has 4 requests going: html page, one css file and two images. No tracking, no 50 javascript libraries, nothing.

If anyone know if/what platform hes using, I'm interested. Very clean looking website, very simple. Love it.

I hope not. That's going to be confusing with the 737-800 model.

Without getting political about this issue, I have a question.

I imagine the reason you're carrying is for self defence, say in the case of an active shooter for example.

Let's say you're able to take down the shooter. During the fiasco that ensures, wouldn't you be afraid of being mistaken as the active shooter by the police? It seems generally they're pretty trigger-happy..

(Again, not to start a political thread about this, I'm just simply curious, coming from a country where we can't carry guns.)

yeezul··on Boeing's Crashes Expose Systemic Failings
My understanding is that the 737 does not use Fly by wire [1] and if I remember correctly it's because they wanted to piggyback on the original 737 certification. I could be wrong.

yeezul··on Fewer Than Half of Google Searches Now Result in a Click
This example proves his point exactly.

I'd rather just type CAD to USD.. or BTC to USD, or any other combination in my address bar than type xe.com, load a bunch of libraries, including Facebook connect. Ghostly reports 6 trackers blocked.

Furthermore, it took 3.45 seconds to load xe.com in Incognito, while google only took 1.1

yeezul··on Bloated
I for one absolutely agree with you that the web has gotten too bloated, especially news websites, and I salute your initiative for "debloating" your blog. This is a path that more of us should follow.

I think Google's AMP project is a step in the right direction, but it seems to me that it's not adopted enough.

yeezul··on Scientists present concept for the elimination of traffic jams

yeezul··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (June 2018)
Hello,

I was just wondering why the remote position is only available in the US. I see this quite often and I'm curious what's the reasoning for it. I would imagine it's tax related?

yeezul··on Plastics Pile Up as China Refuses to Take the West’s Recycling
Same in Quebec. I believe other provinces in Canada have similar policies.

$ 0.05 on all non-refillable single-fill containers that are 450 ml or less in size

$ 0.10 on all single-fill and glass containers up to 450 ml size

$ 0.20 on all single-fill containers larger than 450 ml

$ 0.05 for each soft drink container sold

yeezul··on Ask HN: What to do as a back-end dev and with many app ideas but can't do UX?
Buy a theme. Spend some time to play around with the HTML code from it.

Don't reinvent the wheel if you don't have the skills.
