yks··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
My pessimistic view is that it is unlikely to end up any other way in the society where the only value of a person is their net worth, giving back to the community is a fringe belief for losers ("make money not friends" said someone's t-shirt I saw the other day) and foreign meddling is all but encouraged ("Russia, if you're listening"). Foreign dictators have deep pockets and they will always find receptive politicians. The Iron Curtain saved the West more than it saved the USSR.
yks··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
Democracy in the US has been withering together with the rise of the HOAs. An ironic correlation.
yks··on Allow Carriers on Planes
Bassinets are only available in the wide-body airplanes, and only a few select domestic US routes are even flying those. And even then, the plane bassinets are tiny, and most infants outgrow them by 6mo. And purely anecdotal observation is that most flights I've been on had way more infants in the cabin than places to install bassinets.
yks··on Silicon Valley misreads science fiction and undermines democracy
Russian state is a final form of the thug-centric governance. The economic oligarchs maintain their riches at the behest of thugs, but they don’t have the power nor freedom.
yks··on Silicon Valley misreads science fiction and undermines democracy
In societies like that, Silicon Valley’s rich nerds might discover that they’re not the ones with the real might, see Putin’s Russia, which many of them adore. Money is but one of the facets of power.
yks··on Pacing the frontier
> We request that the U.S. government ...

Too bad these researcher's organizations spent their efforts supporting the dumbest, ficklest possible version of the U.S. government to guide us through the gravity of this moment.

yks··on SpaceX to buy Cursor for $60B
With SPCX shares never going down in price, SpaceX can acquire all companies in the US in exchange for its stock, so SpaceX itself is worth at least as much as the US GDP! (/s)
yks··on India's surprise baby bust
> the deliberately child free people I know all veer on the “soyboy” type of person

If you were to actually know parents at your local area daycare centers/schools, it'd quickly become evident that the "masculine"/"feminine" types are a definite minority.

yks··on MacBook Neo is so popular that Apple doubled production
> won't even be at Dell 18 months from now as they chase the next step in their career

* as they get laid off

yks··on Didgeridoo playing as alternative treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (2006)
would oboe be more effective then, albeit harder to will-power yourself into mastering?
yks··on "Not Medically Necessary": Helping America's Health Insurers Deny Coverage
I recommend reading essays from: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48090321. Tangentially related to your question.

TLDR is that it’s a job that can pay enough to keep one housed, and sometimes there are no alternatives.

I’d redirect the outrage away from the grunts denying care, and towards the leadership that set up those incentives. And even further, when the shareholders demand more profit because the line must go up, what to do?

yks··on GitHub is sinking
Got me thinking, if 99% of code pushed to GH is generated by Claude, GH just becomes a free Claude distillation service. Gotta ban it on natsec grounds obviously.
yks··on Agent Skills
The problem is it’s so rarely A/B tested, definitely not at scale. An engineer, who writes all these my-workflow-but-for-agents skills, proceeds to get the good outcome, while also seeing affirmations that the agent did follow the prescribed processes - that is considered a victory. In reality the outcome could’ve been just as good if they fed Claude a spec + acceptance criteria, or even a basic prompt for the simpler tasks.
yks··on 3.4M Solar Panels
I know this narrative is very popular these days cause it allows to frame voting against one’s interests as some sort of justified rebellious act, but let’s not forget that the opposition to renewables is a decades in the making, paid for, “opinion-shaping” operation (uncharitably, brainwashing)
yks··on Why Japan has such good railways
You’d think so, but in fact it’s almost the opposite! You can own your land all you want but your neighbor has a final say on what’s allowed on your land.
yks··on The Future of Everything Is Lies, I Guess: New Jobs
> managing a swarm of idiot savant chatbots with "OK, that looks good" or "no, do it better" commands.

That’s what the management class thinks of software development process anyway, LLMs are just more idiotic and more savant than swes

yks··on US summons bank bosses over cyber risks from Anthropic's latest AI model
Tangentially related, but how does one protect themselves against the bank account/brokerage being hacked? Can you print out a proof of funds/securities owned to take to court to be made whole?
yks··on F-15E jet shot down over Iran
> the DOJ can't turn around and charge you with a crime, if they advised you beforehand it was not a crime

this sounds like the kind of rules we, as a society, decided to dispense with, so the DOJ can absolutely turn around.

yks··on The first 40 months of the AI era
But that documentation itself is likely AI-generated
yks··on Marketing for Founders
X is not Y — it’s Z.

Because: - A: … - B: …

yks··on Qatar helium shutdown puts chip supply chain on a two-week clock
With JD Vance things will go even worse
yks··on Claws are now a new layer on top of LLM agents
> it's the first agent that many people who usually avoid AI simply LOVE.

Not arguing with your other points, but I can't imagine "people who usually avoid AI" going through the motions to host OpenClaw.

yks··on DOGE Bro's Grant Review Process Was Literally Just Asking ChatGPT 'Is This DEI?'
> My guess is you couldn't get a roomful of experts to agree on what "DEI" means

let's not pretend that anyone involved cares one bit

yks··on I’m joining OpenAI
It's how Steve Yegge became a "father of agentic orchestration" or something - there is some Canonical Universe Building exercise somewhere on twitter that just looks, for the lack of a better word, not rigorous. But good for all these people, I guess, for riding the hype to glory.
yks··on What Drives Stock Market Returns? (2018)
What does "contraction of circulating currency" look like in the post-cash world?
yks··on Orchestrate teams of Claude Code sessions
Agree, langchain was useless then and completely irrelevant now, but the idea that we need to orchestrate different LLM loops is extremely obvious.
yks··on Orchestrate teams of Claude Code sessions
Seriously, I thought that was what langchain was for back in 2023.
yks··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
How about this: no masks, no weapons (if they feel they are in danger they can call the cops who already have more weapons than they possibly need). Every time a citizen is detained in jail, detaining agent and their manager lose their paycheck for that period. Family with kids jailed and separated? No paycheck. You know, do it in the Christian compassionate way, not in the shooting single moms way.
yks··on Harvard legal scholars debate the state of the U.S. constitution (2025)
> If we had a national vote where 51% of the people voted to kill 49% of the people, that would be bad.

How is it different from the majority of electoral votes supporting killing everyone in, I don't know, let's pick a random state, Minnesota.

yks··on How will the miracle happen today?
When I read these enjoyable posts, I agree, but then the thought creeps in that the human experience is not all that bliss. Thoughts about the Russian soldiers raping Ukrainians and putting the grenade booby traps into the children toys (replace with other war experiences of your choice), or about parts of our society idolizing insecure men being cruel and inevitable murder of innocent bystanders that happens then.

Of course the author had a great experience, he's a weird white American somewhere unexpected, the embodiment of a "traveler" archetype. Would that Swedish person give their car keys to a random Roma on their doorstep? Yeah no.

I don't know where I'm going with this rant. "Check your privilege" screeds are overused. Being kind, on the other hand, isn't.
