PHP won exactly because it had a wonderful DX.
If I'm going to ask you or force you to share your password with me, there's no reason I'd ask you to set the password to 4. We might as well agree that the password would be D#!(s9fj0jalk!4af095SF42 , and it's much more likely our collaboration will continue working for years.

Arch is really great, but using the system now for ~5 years I cannot remember where every configuration is, which packages are installed and why, and things just get messy. I'm sure that some issues the system has are do to things I screwed up along the way, and these will be solved if I just reinstall. But with NixOS it feels so easy to find what changes you've done to the system, to leave a comment saying why etc. It feels to me much more maintainable.
If I printed each recipe I followed... gush that would be a lot of paper, and also I bet that paper would get messy very quickly.
For a map, losing the ability to zoom, mark points etc seems like a big loss. Sure you can draw on it (how do you erase your mistakes?), but if everything you draw just ends up lost when you discard the paper, that's not so ideal.
If you're versioning the whole API though, I agree it's best behind a a /v2/ prefix.
But seems like they won? Why know how to search when you can simply ask your question. You can even tyipe it layke dat and it would still work.
The business model of having a popular product with great documentation, which leads free users to additional paid services, seems like a very valid business model.
Even the criticism you have for their product is along the lines of "the product only worked because they identified a problem in the market; If someone else identified it, this product wouldn't even be needed!". Which is, well, true, but also true for almost any other successful product.
