yunnpp··on Egoless Mathematics in the AI Era
I call bullshit for the same reason the first reply to the post gives. It's great to reflect on your self-worth and where that worth comes from (regardless of AI). In a way, this post criticizes capitalism for reducing one's worth to productive output. But then you are asked to become pure and egoless, to detach yourself from your work, while others full on ego profit immensely and strip away your rights. How convenient, right? This post is a gross normalizing of the dehumanization of work. Did Terrence even review this shit before publishing?
yunnpp··on So I guess everyone uses LLMs to think now
Some of us capitalize the first letter of every sentence. Wild.
yunnpp··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
Bro went full Chewbacca.
yunnpp··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
Nothing, but that extension would be flagged as "unknown" or "third-party" source or something and you'd get a big warning before proceeding to install it.

Also, a basic scan of the package would have flagged an ssh backdoor, no? It didn't seem to me like its obfuscation was very sophisticated.

You don't need to force everyone, both an coexist in this context. I do believe a company with nearly a trillion dollars of planned expenditure can afford to buy a domain and renew it prior to expiration.
yunnpp··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
You are correct that I mixed those up. In any case, my point still stands modulo my incorrect use of terminology.
yunnpp··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
This is absolutely false. But I understand why someone would believe that in this joke of an industry where all the liability often falls on the user.
yunnpp··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
This is a solved problem, just look at how EFF's certbot works. You cannot just claim that you are porn.com unless you put a payload there that matches what the bot expects.
yunnpp··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
> saying it will cover all losses from the hack and is working with law enforcement officials to identify who is responsible.

Isn't Binance the one that needs to be prosecuted for negligent security? How does "a compromised laptop" lead to a $6bn wipe in a matter of minutes?

This is why banks are regulated, though I have no idea if/whether these platforms are regulated in any similar way.

yunnpp··on Discord will soon let anyone find public server messages through Google
Interesting, thanks for the clarification. I am on a vpn, so yeah, my IP is probably flagged. But disconnecting from the vpn is not exactly a good trade-off either.
yunnpp··on Discord will soon let anyone find public server messages through Google
Privacy fears from people who didn't see the irony of surrendering their phone number to a company to chat with someone on the Internet.
yunnpp··on I still teach OpenGL ES 3.0
Yes, that is what I meant, thanks.
yunnpp··on I still teach OpenGL ES 3.0
For rasterization, I would recommend: https://pikuma.com/courses/learn-3d-computer-graphics-progra...

If the video format is not for you, I would at least follow the contents, then look up the individual pieces. The black book has a number of them: https://www.jagregory.com/abrash-black-book/

For ray tracing, Ray Tracing from the Ground Up: https://www.amazon.in/Ray-Tracing-Ground-Kevin-Suffern/dp/15...

Then people will jump in to say that the PBRT book (https://www.pbrt.org/) is a better or more comprehensive source, and it is true, but my opinion is that From the Ground Up is easier to get started with.

yunnpp··on New 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6
Maybe gp should try squeezing it through the other major cavity of the body. Might have some extra room there.

Edit: guys, come up, muster some sense of humor. This screen is only 14" after all.

yunnpp··on I still teach OpenGL ES 3.0
I've learned more graphics writing software rasterizers and ray tracers than using any APIs. If the goal is to teach GPU rendering specifically, then OpenGL is indeed more amenable to teaching than the others. But if the goal is to teach graphics and rendering concepts, then OpenGL et al are just miserable and counter-productive.

yunnpp··on Xbox wants you to pay 24 to 40 cents per hour to stream games you bought

Right. Microsoft's handheld is just shy over $1000.

yunnpp··on AI use leads UC Berkeley math professor to see 'no point' in grading homework
That is not the point of the article, though. He posits AI will just do better than humans soon, and he no longer knows whether people should even study math (from the article). So the point is that pursuing those studies is no longer useful; how or whether you grade is irrelevant at that point. (To be clear, I am not defending the statement, just explaining what I understood.)
yunnpp··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
What's up with these weird ass videos with the anime girls though?
yunnpp··on Claude designed protein binders against scorpion neurotoxins
That assumes you have no prior knowledge of either group.

They certainly wrote off your privacy online without giving much thought.

I was surprised by the opening statement too. These guys are the literal scourge of the modern web and he's proud he's been at it for 13 years? Not sure we're on the same page, lol.
yunnpp··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
Your last statement holds even after removing the word "successfully".

yunnpp··on ReBarUEFI: Resizable BAR for almost any UEFI system
What is the purpose of your comments? You failed to answer his question, then attack him for asking the question. Consider the two possibilities: a) doing that homework is easy, b) it's hard. If it's easy, you could have just posted the relevant link and be done. If it's hard, then his question is warranted. Either way, your comments add nothing. One can only conclude that you don't actually know how to answer the question. The real question, though, is: why even bother replying?

Also, ReBAR can get complicated as you can see from other responses above. The articles on the web are also not really good as they tend to replicate marketing material and make vague statements about performance, but fail to explain how specifically performance is improved.

yunnpp··on Manifesto – who we are and what do we want (2002)
The sale of the hammer to a sanctioned group would violate export controls and other regulations. So yes, it is your fault.

In this case these guys are providing a service, so I would wonder what they are doing differently than, say, Facebook. The latter is also used (and run) by criminals. Most likely the governments want this particular service down, found the legal avenue to do so, and are now following through.
