But its always fun to remind them that Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran are their top traffic sources.
- Gracenote (they sold their lyrics licensing to lyricfind)
- Lyricfind
E.g. Google and Bing also license their lyrics offering through Lyricfind.
I only deal with them.
The biggest revenue hit was the decline of ringtone revenue.
But matter of fact is that Directlyrics hosts only around 10k. A decision made early on to focus on less pages compared to competitors that needed to rank 1M+ paghes.
What if Google would start ranking directlyrics on specific 'azlyrics' queries? I haven't seen it happen yet, but if it worked... expect it to be reverted next week.
Exceptions are months (e.g. around Christmas) where my advertising partner would be able to attract up to 3x revenue from the same amount of traffic as the month before.
It was pretty clear that others would be next. Hence unlicensed wouldn't be maintainable.
Next to that, I wanted to sell advertising to big brands. My advertising partner insisted we needed to be licensed for the Coca Cola's of this world to spend money on my traffic.
So for me it was an opportunity to increase revenue, at the costs of lower profit margin.
The current charts are a starting point. To re-emphasize (from the linked blog post) I would love it to evolve to an community/expert consensus based on transparant arguments.
I'll update the spelling. Yeoman could be better in a different state position. Thanks.
re: context chart and states. The y-axis mentions "adoption". Which is the market adoption of an item. If you click a state, I explain what that state mean. I'm certain this can be improved. So for your example Heroku: Yes they could be growing, I'm not saying they aren't, but they've come into a state where their service is strongly challenged by competitors (usually left in the chart, AWS, Google Cloud).
Re: PostgreSQL and Containers. Those are my opinion in this release. I would see state.of.dev evolve into expert/community consensus based on arguments and actual chart releases.
Sublime's position is a bug!
I build a tool around that, which became State.of.dev.

I did some digging in the upvote data of ProductHunt a while back, and although submitting a product needed special privileges, I easily found lots of dubious upvote behaviour. Unfortunately its hard to distinguish between people asking their friends to help upvote (eg via twitter) and 'spamming' upvotes.
If the actual content is good, do we really care how it got in the top ranks?
