An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, “only a little while. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.”
The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”
The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”
To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”
“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.
The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”
“Millions – then what?”
The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

If you haven't worked with someone who's smarter and more motivated than you are, then I can see how you'd draw that conclusion, but if you have, then you'd know that there are full stack developers out there who do both better than you. It's humbling to code in their repos. I've never worked with geohot so I don't know if he is such a person, but they're out there.

Some subjects, like computer science, which is still a very young area of study are very open to learnings from first principles. Others, like the geopolitics of nuclear deterrence, are deeper than any one person can even begin to understand.
By "Just Fine" you mean there's currently a hullabaloo about what can legally be called Milk? In a story of naming rights and lawsuits, various non-dairy milks have come to market, and the traditional dairy farmers, unable to hack it, have taken to the courtroom instead of actually competing. Sound familiar?
Most people I know also don't own ridiculous mansions, so have been using AirBNB to rent locations for these events (again, causing no property damage). They are fine switching to VRBO/whatever but these are expensive locations so it seems strange that Airbnb wouldn't want the revenue.

Most days, fines are just the cost of doing business. They cut into your profits, sure, but as long as profits >> fine, just pay the fine and keep doing it.
Another one is a friend is a huge fan of smart IoT devices, some of them on Siri, some of them on Alexa. He had to remember which voice assistant reach device was on, which got confusing with all the different devices (mostly lights), so I setup a home assistant bridge for him, so everything is now accessible via Siri.
Yet another one, a friend had their laptop hooked up to a projector which was cumbersome because their laptop was tethered to the project all the time and they couldn't move around with it. So I gave them a Pi (pre-shortage) and taught them some software so they usually have that hooked up now instead.
Years ago, more on the IT side, but I'd clear out crapware laden Windows laptops of accumulated spyware. They'd be able to put off buying a new laptop for a while longer, saving them money they may not have had.
we don't know from the singular fact that they're reading through teenagers text messages how heavy handed that monitoring is. Maybe there's a recurrence of satanic panic, but we don't actually know that. That you had that experience with your parents is awful but it sounds like parents are more likely to be their kids DnD DM than anything else these days.
