zashapiro··on Github Raises $100 Million
I just happened to be on their About page today and I noticed they'd taken down the "VC money raised - $0.00" section.

Congrats to the fine folks at GitHub!

zashapiro··on Proof of 'God particle' found
99.99% sure they found it is good enough for me
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
Let me do some digging. I suspect not. I use Command + Tab to switch apps and then when I want to isolate I pull up my dock and click an icon (my dock is usually hidden).
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
We should hang out then! Shoot me an email zack @ zackshapiro.com and let's grab coffee and meet up! Maybe we'll end up watching a Ravens game together in the Fall!
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
I am indeed! Are you? Go Ravens!
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
Updated!
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
That was my mistake. I must have closed the tab by accident. Updating now. Thanks for catching this, cadooo.
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
Thanks! I didn't know about this. Personally, I like Single Application Mode so that I don't have to think about it. I throw every computer I have into Single App Mode when I get it.
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
I'm not familiar with single application mode for Windows. Sorry, grim :(
zashapiro··on Single Application Mode: My favorite hidden feature of OS X
Nice find! Thanks chbrown.
zashapiro··on Guide To San Francisco Tech Meetups
This is great. Thanks Scott!
zashapiro··on Show HN: Avatars.io - simple API for integrating avatars into your app or site
Agreed. Gravatar is pretty much the worst.
zashapiro··on BlackOps Plastics (Opaque to the eye, transparent for cameras)
Somebody make a teddy bear out of this material and put it on a mantle a la The Parent Trap. It'll look like Metal Mario from Mario N64 and will keep your house totally safe. Bonus points if you put a red headband on it or anything else to make it look like a ninja
zashapiro··on Long Exposure Photographs Shot from Orbit
These are unreal. Thanks for sharing!
zashapiro··on Why Django Sucks
But have you seen the trailer for Django Unchained?!? (new Tarantino flick)

zashapiro··on In 50 Years Steve Jobs Will Be Forgotten
While I enjoyed some of Gladwell's writing, this is bullshit. If you don't think that copying happens everywhere, you should watch everythingisaremix.info. Jobs took pieces of a million things and put them together in a way that made the most sense and connected culturally. Jobs won't be forgotten for a long, long time, just as Thomas Edison hasn't been forgotten. Gladwell's flat wrong on this.
zashapiro··on Airline to seat passengers according to their mood
I imagined that I'd open this article and the categories would be:

1. Angry 2. Really Angry 3. Overly happy and chatty 4. Business douchebags 5. Neutral 6. Hulk angry

zashapiro··on Who cares if Facebook fails?
Facebook has been around for 8 years, it's one of the most heavily-used web properties in the world. I just had an IPO and nearly a billion people have an account. It's staying power revolves around the web of photos and collective memory that we all now have of the last 8 years.

One day Facebook's usage and magic will peter out. I wouldn't call that a failure. Some will. I think they've had some damn good success up to this point and will continue to for the foreseeable future.

zashapiro··on Github: United States Code
Can you imagine how helpful diffs would be in the legislative process? Instead of combing through hundreds of pages to find new changes, losses, amendments, etc., it would all be right there.

Let's open source the law.

zashapiro··on Why I Hate Facebook - Facebook Releases "Camera"
No it didn't. There are a million photo-sharing apps out there. Just because Instagram was the most popular doesn't mean it was the only one.
zashapiro··on The danger of using averages alone in web analytics
Well said.
zashapiro··on "Do Not Track" for Chrome
Glad to see this is available for Chrome. Thanks for posting it!
zashapiro··on Last Year I Graduated College and Launched a Startup
Enjoyed the post, Jason.

Along your comment of life after college being a uniquely challenging time, I wrote this post a few weeks back that seems relevant - http://zackshapiro.com/post/22010015010/9-things-i-wish-some...

I don't mean to take away any attention from your article, just thought it would be some good, direct advice for recent college grads.

zashapiro··on The danger of using averages alone in web analytics
I'm surprised you didn't you mention geometric means. Seems like that would also be a relevant way to look at performance data.
zashapiro··on Show HN: A/B testing for iOS and Android
I'm so excited to give this a spin. Something simple and turnkey was absolutely needed. Nice work guys!
zashapiro··on Gumroad raises $7 million from KPCB
Gumroad's advantage is the obnoxious ease of use compared to similar players in the space. For anyone currently using Paypal, Amazon or Google's comparable services, Gumroad's simplicity makes it a no-brainer.
zashapiro··on Show HN: Teach Yourself To Code
You should add a link to yourself somewhere on the site so people can email you, follow you on Twitter, etc.

Again, great work!

zashapiro··on Show HN: Teach Yourself To Code
Kateray, this is awesome. I'm probably at the same place as you learning how to code and loving every minute of it. I couldn't agree more, everyone should know how to code - at least enough to be dangerous and prototype something up.

Great work!

zashapiro··on Stephen King interviewed by Neil Gaiman
