zeisss··on Deutsche Bank's “dysfunctional” IT division (2018)
Willing to elaborate a bit on this?
zeisss··on GitHub merge queue is generally available
Seems to be only available to opublic repos or enterprise customers. At least I can't see the setting in my company's private repo
zeisss··on Fintech engineering mistakes (2022)
Do you always put the currency behind the number? I know some countries prefer the currency infront (e.g. USD), others behind (EUR).

But since this is not a human visible field, this is probably irrelevant, right?

zeisss··on Guide to Software Architecture Documentation
There is https://c4model.com/
zeisss··on Ask HN: What do you look for when reviewing 3rd party dependencies?
Proper documentation, especially API definitions. If it's just a few examples in the readme and I have to guess what the AmazongMetadataCobtextTypeProxy is supposed to represent, I am out.
zeisss··on Upptime/upptime: Uptime monitor and status page powered by GitHub
Is this relying on scheduled github actions? We are using those and they are not very accurate. We regularly see jobs completely skipped or run with a lot of delay.

zeisss··on Why Ancient Roman Concrete Outlasts Our Own (2017)
There is a save button right under the sci hub logo next to a Google scholar link. Opened the PDF for me on Android chrome.
zeisss··on GitHub Actions limitations and gotchas
Which means you have to pay more money. If we want fine-tune the permissions of each repo we have to create one user per repository.
zeisss··on An epic treatise on scheduling, bug tracking, and triage (2017)
+1 for doing this for onboarding / knowledge sharing or just brainstorming possible solutions to a problem. But do it with a clear timebox (maybe 1-2h) and breaks in between. Having to do this longer (like a whole day, even with breaks etc) would drive me nuts as well. Sometimes I just need to stare at the code for a while or draw pretty boxes with arrows on a piece of paper (kind of hard to share in a remote setting).
zeisss··on Using a magnetic string to fish for a lost iPhone 12 in a Berlin canal
Exactly
zeisss··on Ask HN: What feature did you find after years of using macOS?
> - While a menu is open, hold Option;

For the app icons in the top right, clicking while Option is pressed also shows different menus. For example, the wifi icon now has options for diagnostics or the battery icon has a battery quality indicator.

zeisss··on Ask HN: JSON Output for CLI Tools?
I understand the idea for fetching / listing resources, e.g. list me all ec2 machines.

My confusion is more about general logs ("preparing output in /tmp/randomid") and progress updates ("the job is 25% done", "deploying cluster", "docker image download: 90%"). Is that actually of interest as structured output or should that remain as human readable on stderr?

zeisss··on Clutch, the Open-Source Platform for Infrastructure Tooling
There is a comparison page which names a few: https://clutch.sh/docs/about/comparison
zeisss··on Billionaire, Board Game God and Tech's Hidden Disruptor (2019)
Pandemic
zeisss··on Radio Garden – Explore live radio by rotating the globe
All I want is an app that I can hotkey to my main (android) screen that starts a stream with an auto-sleep timer set to some value. I currently have to click like 6 times with various wait times to listen to my nightly "sleep time" stream.

Any app recommendations?

zeisss··on GitHub was down
That explains why my test suite suddenly takes >1h and after I canceled it, the status was green O.o
zeisss··on Critical Bluetooth vulnerability in Android
My Bose QuietComfort 35 has a cable and jack for analog audio. It is quite common among germans, afaict.
zeisss··on Schema.org v6.0
There is a full list here: https://schema.org/docs/full.html
zeisss··on PromCon 2019 Live Stream
Thanks for streaming this again!
zeisss··on How to use Gmail more efficiently (2013)
My gmail has a little tasks component on the right now. Not sure whethere that is stored though.
zeisss··on The unlikely resurgence of Dungeons and Dragons
My friends and I play via Google Hangout and Google Draw. Works well enough.
zeisss··on App Maker, Google’s low-code tool for building business apps, comes out of beta
My first IT job was building apps with Oracle Forms. To this day I miss the ease of creating a UI and some simple database tables with it.

Sadly this requires a GSuite accounts, so it is hard to try out.

zeisss··on App Maker, Google’s low-code tool for building business apps, comes out of beta
JDBC is not a protocol, so they probably just created a binding between Java/JDBC and whatever AppMaker uses
zeisss··on Ask HN: Who pays for remote worker travel to office?
At my last company where >50% of the employees were remote: yes. Although the office-visits were less often. Mostly we got together twice a year.
zeisss··on Au Revoir

zeisss··on Datensparsamkeit (2013)
and the german word for that is "Datenreichtum" (data-richness)
zeisss··on NixOps – Declarative cloud provisioning and deployment with NixOS
Is there good explanation anywhere of the syntax of those files? I tried getting into nix multiple times and was always put off by the lack of understandability of this.
zeisss··on Lessons I learned while implementing technical RFCs as a management tool
I think there is a difference between documentation for yourself(and your team) and others.

I think documentation for others (your users) is still needed, but I rarely write documentation for myself or my team.

zeisss··on Lessons I learned while implementing technical RFCs as a management tool
The NPM team also wrote something last year about their internal use of RFCs: http://blog.npmjs.org/post/153881413635/some-notes-on-rfcs
