zenithirl··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
Statistically what is false? Nobody made any quantifiable statement. Clearly you just get off on calling people fascists. You probably think it makes you a better person when it actually makes you look like an unthinking drone.

Deranged. Someone said that allowing bright minds to immigrate over freeloaders and criminals is preferable and you denigrate them as a fascist who can't even be spoken to. Absolutely and utterly deranged.

Typical holier than thou attitude, must be tough being such a paragon of virtue.

I always feel like ME2 gets off very lightly for doing essentially nothing to progress the main story. It feels like the story could have been used in a spinoff game.

Part of ME3's problem was that it was left with too much to do, the Reaper invasion needs to be started and concluded in the same game when it should have been started in ME2.

I don't get this attitude that there's no point in doing something because a computer can do it better. That just tells me that you don't enjoy the "craft" and only enjoy the part where you get credit for doing something.

It's like playing chess because you want to win and don't care about the part where you play the game. Computers are better at chess too but people still play it because they enjoy it. Does nobody practice mathematics just because they enjoy it?

No one at the business end of the leaderboard on Sunday is unaware of their position. It's very much a psychological game no matter how much you try and ignore the field.

A craft wasn't ripped away from you: The process still exists as-is in its prior form, like the woodcarvers of yesteryear. Nothing that you desire (the process/journey) has been lost. It still exists.

Agree, I don't buy the notion that mathematics is a craft, it's a pursuit of knowledge. A better analogy might be cartography where people spent a lot of effort mapping unknown regions and now we can take pictures from space. This is both faster and probably more accurate and there are basically no unknown regions left so there's less motivation to do it anymore.

That said, there's nothing stopping anybody from mapping out an area today if they get a kick out of it. The gripe with mathematics is less about the loss of a craft and more about a superior solution replacing the old approach as the best option; the old approach very much still exists though.

zenithirl··on Why the Bronze Age Collapsed
It's absolutely stunning what modern media has done to some people.
zenithirl··on Macbeth and His Problems
>Which YEAH, it does, in that Macbeth's enemies construct a bunch of battering rams from the forest timber

My memory might be failing but I thought it was that the soldiers were disguising their movements using branches cut from the trees so it gave the impression that the trees themselves were moving towards Macbeth's castle.
