zeristor··on "Tame" boar and deer are instinctively adapting to the wolf in the Netherlands
And bears and Lynx, Moose/Elk too I guess, Wolverines?

Actually in Kent there's a park where they are reintroducing European Bison, and alongside them some Elk. I mean it is a fenced off area experiment.

There are so many deer around here now, they're asking people to hunt them and trying to start a taste for venison.

zeristor··on Emmanuel Maignan's gnomonic catoptric astrolabe at Palazzo Spada (2024) [video]
A sundial in the ceiling of a room in a building.

Talking with Fable about designing my dream home, and how I liked to be aware of the sun through the building and it mentioned this gem from 300 years ago using a mirror on a window sill to project onto the ceiling.

zeristor··on Show HN: Panini – a zero-dependency parser for chaotic Indian bank narrations
Is there some context for this?

Chaotic Indian bank narrations sounds intriguing.

Can he demonstrate this concretely?
zeristor··on Show HN: GeoRadios – Spin a globe, hear what's on the radio there
Stations outside the UK are unavailable…

Is everyone restricted to their country?

zeristor··on Triple-A Minesweeper
It is missing a huge cut to a countdown timer for added suspense, a film isn’t a film without a cut to the countdown timer driving the story.

Apart from those films which do t have them.

zeristor··on Germany transforms former coal mines into Europe's largest lake landscape
Where did they get the water from?

Or is only SE England where there’s hardly been any rain.

zeristor··on Tenochtitlan, 1519 – Experience Aztec's capital in 3D
This amazing!

The voxels, the people, the people in boats.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for an Axolotl, the people are milling about I’m guessing the human sacrifice isn’t a thing just yet…

zeristor··on Danish children struggle to learn their vowel-filled language, and this changes
One other reason has been suggested is the language uses many idioms.

Maybe I’m mistaken, I’m half Danish and very belatedly learning Danish since I’d feel guilty learning any other second language first.

Duolingo goes up to A1 CEFR rating which like to refer to as Duplo level, I’m trying to strategise beyond.

Strangely I’ve been using Claude to help me put together a family tree a fair way mainly because it can “understand” Danish.

A surreal feeling when it can transcribe Danish church records written in gothic script from 150 years ago. Or accidentally proactively pick up probate pages a stitch them together.

zeristor··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
I did query ChatGPT and it seemingly wrong headedly suggested that Estonia had closed lots of Oil Shale power which it did have, I am not too up on this.

I did push back hard saying that that's not the same as what the article talked about at all.

The thing is if the World Bank is making statistics people are basing decisions on this is an issue.

"Oh, you sweet summer child"

zeristor··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
Estonia?!

Much has been made of Estonia having a high tech virtual government I’d. So many high tech start ups have come from Estonia, I’m a bit stunned that they have big electricity distribution problems.

zeristor··on NSA, military cyber forces will guard US election systems during midterms
I trust the results haven’t already been decided.

zeristor··on Claude Opus 5.5
If this the benchmark they could well have gone to town on it.

The Pelican is nice, simple and. Lean though.

zeristor··on Bunker mentality: the Nordics' cold war shelters being given a new lease of life
Am I missing something huge?

Russia has used up all its tanks, and has scant few missiles left.

Preparation like this is prudent on a cost/risk analysis but Putin has floundered.

zeristor··on Samsung is expected to more than double output of its HBM4 and HBM4E DRAM
I was thinking this, but I doubt that the HBM is so easy to repurpose.

I’m assuming that it’s mounted in the same unit as the GPU, not in a handy-dandy socket.

It could be cracked open and extracted no doubt but if it’s glued in that’s going to be nigh on impossible to extract.

I had been pinning my hopes on HBM coming onto the second hand markets after there three years or so of use, perhaps I’m wrong.

zeristor··on Phone coverage across the London tube sent me hurtling down a tunnel of despair
Does this include above ground too? The Eastern end of the Central line has a large dead area that I can never get a signal on.
zeristor··on An LLM-Turbocharged Community Calendar Reboot (2024)
I was following Elm City quite closely 10 or so years ago, it’ll be interesting to follow this.
zeristor··on An AI deal with China could get Donald Trump his Nobel Prize
Does Trump read?

He doesn’t strike me as the bookish type.

zeristor··on Jeff Bezos Earned His Amazon Fortune

zeristor··on Elon Musk said he needed 'a legion of children before the civil war'
Isn’t that a standard chat up line for some?
zeristor··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
I just use the LG screen for my Apple TV.

No network connection, apparently the BBC thinks I should use the LG app to watch UHD TV, perhaps they’re in league with LG

zeristor··on Carbon-aware electricity pricing, measured daily on 38 grids
I’ve been thinking about this the CO₂ usage could be part of the price. I had toyed with having a two dimensional price, the price alongside the CO₂ usage, but I guess that way madness lies.
