Soon we will manage factories, then it will just turn into factorio at work.
zingababba··on One resignation turned the embers of AI fear into a wildfire
Guys it's going to be fine just relax. Everyone is AI psychosis'd as fuck right now.
zingababba··on All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it
Speaking of Dostoevsky Prince Myshkin in 'The Idiot' is a fine portrayal of this archetype. In fact I believe at one point it is mentioned that most adults dislike him while children are drawn to him or something to that effect.
zingababba··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Soon Levent will just be turned into soylent and he will have never been an Anthropic employee. We still need some progress here though.
zingababba··on Flock Safety's controversial CEO just got a taste of his own medicine
Cast off your demoralization and join the resistance.
zingababba··on Just the rumour of a bug is enough to find an exploit these days
Transferring ideas in their abstract form is entirely possible now. What this blog post describes I believe even undersells the current reality. I've had success with finding crits by pasting in extremely high level or abstract concepts. I recently went from a talk abstract (3-4 sentences) to crits lol (finding that vuln type).
zingababba··on Ask HN: What is one simple thing LLMs are insanely bad at?
Yes. The orgs that have gone all in on Claude specifically (Claude Enterprise lets say) have an extremely distinct smell to them. It is basically one of things have gone quite off the rails and no one seems to know how to clean it up.
zingababba··on More Fucked Today Than Yesterday
Who's more fucked the earth or us in particular? And who is doing the fucking then? I'd like some answers to these serious questions.
zingababba··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
Lol, yup.
zingababba··on Ask HN: Does anyone else feel like nothing matters anymore?
I think the hard lesson here that will probably get buried and obfuscated eternally is that we have literally just recreated all of the horrible parts of management but now at the IC level.

Every IC now has an entire army of claude or whatever agents indulging all their bullshit endlessly. I'm seeing it in fortune 200s all over the place at the moment. You have IC after IC just dopamine maxxing solutions left and right that don't play well with other IC solutions. Little fiefdoms exactly like what you would find at management barriers but so much worse somehow because for the majority of it you take one look and realize it's complete slop.

I honestly don't know how all this shit will get cleaned up but it seems like ICs are doing an insane amount of damage all over the place probably because everyone is depressed and demoralized and basically like 'fuck it'.

zingababba··on Grok 4.6 scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index
Same, sad how far Claude has fallen. I still think Claude code patterns are amazing so I just port those.
zingababba··on What Happened to HackerOne?
They absolutely are and they are also sitting on a goldmine of data they are using to enable them to do just that. If you doubt this just ask them for a demo of their agentic capabilities and start talking to them about roadmap, they are full steam ahead with fucking over the people that made them what they are.
zingababba··on DEA to Temporarily Schedule 7-Oh and Related Substances to Protect Public Safety
I know I'm an outlier in that regard. It's not the peak/thinking I'm a color I find useful, it's the coming back to reality afterwards. Salvia is an incredibly potent perception cleanser. After peak, as your default perceptions slide back into place you can catch them in the act of taking hold again. I've caught myself 'putting back on' pieces of myself I thought I could never change/always thought was unquestionable/absolute.
zingababba··on DEA to Temporarily Schedule 7-Oh and Related Substances to Protect Public Safety
You used to be able to find some wild stuff in GNC ~20 years ago, the 'pro-hormone' era was funny.

All the cannabinoid analogs are a good example too, people just want to get high.

I do miss salvia extracts though. Being able to pick that up in a head shop was nice before it got banned.

zingababba··on PwC Report: AI Making Medical Bills Higher
They might have a skill or something that goes from report -> 'fortune article' - it honestly would not surprise me.
zingababba··on US Government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Right now it's basically this easy: 1. apex domain 2. ???? 3. critical PII exposure

There is /so/ much stuff on the internet that just needed someone to spend enough time on it.

zingababba··on I Think They [Anthropic] Are Lying to You [video]
Well said. Most of my career I made a trade-off and that trade-off was that I would much rather spend my free time outside in nature than on implementing my wild ideas which I always recognized would take considerable time. I'd maybe take 1% of my ideas anywhere. Now I can play with ideas while I'm out on the trail and turn those into something I can test within a couple hours, it's the most fun I've had on computers since the very beginning.

zingababba··on Ask HN: Are we as society going to let LLM companies take all the values?
In the public sphere yes. A long term effect of this will be what ends up in the public sphere won't be the same as it once was.
zingababba··on Meta workers can opt out of being tracked at work up to 30 min
I 24/7 never stop thinking about leaving tech at this point. Dependents is what makes the decision in any way complicated for me. When you have others that have become accustomed to a certain level of comfort, telling them you want to take that away so you personally don't have to deal with the absolute hell that is 'agentic' corporate america becomes a real pain in the ass.
zingababba··on Creatine raises brain energy levels and slows cognitive decline: study
There was one study that has never been replicated that showed it increased DHT levels in Rugby players. Higher DHT levels are associate with hair loss and enlarged prostate. Creatine has always come with too many side effects for me as well, I don't get how people take that stuff every day.

zingababba··on GitHub's take on age assurance for developers
Right, GitHub of old is long gone.
zingababba··on 560-610 minutes of exercise a week needed for substantial heart benefits
I mean I get you are trying to imply this is some type of luxury but I've been exercising almost daily my entire life from when I was an unemployed teenager to now at 40yo making a respectable living. It has absolutely nothing to do with wealth. Hell during a rough spot in my life I was homeless for a week and was still working out daily. For me it's literally my anti-depressant.

What it honestly comes down to is people absolutely love to make excuses, simple as.

zingababba··on Security researcher says Microsoft built a Bitlocker backdoor, releases exploit
https://github.com/BigPolarBear1/The_story

I've been pretty convinced this is SandboxEscaper for awhile now.

zingababba··on AI is wiping out entry-level jobs
No one has any idea what the cost will be. It seems like at the moment every sector is removing barriers to at least accelerated adoption of an entirely new technique (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techne).

The Mythos spook is starting to mobilize any org that had either still been on the fence or more heavily regulated. Look at how quickly the thinking around agentic governance is progressing, it is a reflection of how fast we are progressing with implementing this capability, it reveals what types of questions are being asked by institutions resistant to change.
