Probably a good idea if you work with sensitive data (and you’re already on Zero Data Retention)

ziofill··on A mathematician reads the AI future
I’m also a physicist, and I do worry about physics. I’ve already had a few successful sessions with Claude and Astra where they came up with useful ideas in my field. I still know what to ask for and nudge them where it matters, but I fear it’s going to be a few short months before they can decide that too, unassisted.
ziofill··on Tesla Roadster
I want all of those things AND flying cars
ziofill··on Making Chicken Transparent Using Dorito Dust
a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2H31RzTPoU
ziofill··on Super Intelligence
wow that's such an annoying animation
ziofill··on Woman who rescued injured crow keeps getting 'thank-you gifts' from birds [video]
My late neighbour Tullio (wonderful old man, clock maker) once told me that when he was a kid he cared for a chick crow and they went on to be friends for many years. For example he would ride his bike to work in the morning and the crow would accompany him along the way, and then back home in the evening. What a magical frienship.

Very real stuff (I have a PhD on this)

ziofill··on Find the flattest route between any two points in SF
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but isn’t the climb independent of the route?
ziofill··on Pirate Face Rescues LLM Models from Deletion
You can’t diagonalize a generic matrix by adding a rank 1 matrix. That holds only for dimension 2.
ziofill··on macOS Golden Gate Is a Buggy Mess
I’m not in any way aware of how macOS is architected, but aren’t all these inconsistencies (like different app icons, different menu styles, different window corners etc) pointing to bad code design? There should be one shared source of truth for what needs to be consistent.
ziofill··on Pirate Face Rescues LLM Models from Deletion
I don’t think this is true.
ziofill··on A Mathematical Framework for Transformer Circuits (2021)
This comment is hysteresical
ziofill··on Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives
Come on now, I don’t think it was meant as a justification of that inexcusable driver’s behaviour.
ziofill··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
As cool as this looks, I can’t get past my suspicion of Meta…
ziofill··on Ask HN: How do you manage skills files?
That’s what I’m saying, I don’t set it up. I just install Claude code and I’m good to go.

Managing configuration files feels like worrying about fine-tuning in 2023

ziofill··on De-Brainrot Vacations
I’m a professional theoretical physicist in my 40s and I never thought the day would come that I would realize I became shit at mental math. I can do quantum physics in my head but don’t ask me to add 17 to 34
ziofill··on Ask HN: How do you manage skills files?
I’ve tried to keep up with “best practices” around AI use, but things are improving so quickly that I’ve largely given up. The vanilla agents are just fine for my needs as they come.
ziofill··on Go grandmaster Shin defeats AI KataGo with a two-stone handicap
I don’t think so: the ELO rating difference is what matters, e.g. a 1000 player vs an 800 player has the same win probability as a 2800 vs a 2600.
ziofill··on Restroom Archive
George Costanza would be proud
ziofill··on Hy4 preview
That’s a fair question, but it seems that it’s not yet necessary. See here

ziofill··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
IMHO the iPod nano (the little puck with a touchscreen that you could clip on stuff) was the best player I ever had.
ziofill··on How Universities Should Prepare Founders
ok ok, I get it now, it's satire ^^'
ziofill··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
where are downpayments so cheap? I'll move there ^^'
ziofill··on US data centers tripled annual water consumption to 17B gallons
Exactly. Is that figure about the water 'flowing' through the datacenter? I want to believe they would not just dump it after use.
ziofill··on How Universities Should Prepare Founders
> Academic studies and knowledge are literally a worthless waste of time

Not everything is about money

ziofill··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
The duress pin should not erase the device, just unlock a spoof version of the device
ziofill··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
I already have universal healthcare here in Canada. I just feel sorry for people living in the US who could have it too if it wasn’t for stupid political shenanigans and ideological stubbornness. Health should be a right, not a commodity sold by private corporations to those who can afford it.
ziofill··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
It should never be shopping in the first place. I live in Canada, my family has needed the hospital and the ER a few times and we never ever had to even reach for our wallet.
ziofill··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
No, overwhelmingly more people support a single payer healthcare system. The issue is that the people in Washington won’t make it a “votable” decision.
