How dare those who are gifted be able to push the boundaries of their efforts. Communism applied to education and IQ. No rich, we must all be equally poor. No high IQ individuals, we must all be equally dumb.
zthrowaway··on The entire city of San Francisco as a video game
This is an epic shitpost. Bravo.
zthrowaway··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
This 100%.

I think most of us want a moderate Democrat. I hope populism dies with Trump/MAGA in the coming years. We don’t need to match them with our own distasteful populism.

zthrowaway··on Winamp Skin Museum
Wow that's cool! I had no idea about these back then.
zthrowaway··on Winamp Skin Museum
The thing about back then that was so amazing is the amount of personalization you had with your desktop environment. Windows 95/98 had different skins/themes you could use. Winamp and many other apps allowed skins. You used to be able to make your computing experience your own. We've lost that and really need to get it back. There's the ability to do this with Linux DE's of course, but that's not enough.
zthrowaway··on Finding the best dog treat with statistics
Really weird question but what boots are you wearing in your blog photo? They look wide enough for my weird feet. Thanks
zthrowaway··on Israeli firm BlackCore suspected of meddling in New York and Scotland votes
I’m glad to see antisemitism doesn’t have the sting it used to have. It’s been a shield to hide behind while doing the most abhorrent things. The world is waking up.
zthrowaway··on Pentagon raised threat of Israeli spying on U.S. to highest level, sources say
Also realize that a lot of these people that are being slaughtered are Christians.
zthrowaway··on Ask HN: What was your "oh shit" moment with GenAI?
“Farewell to stack overflow” juxtaposed with the realization that AI only knows what to troubleshoot and how because of stack overflow…
zthrowaway··on Our tech overlords are planning for conscious AI to conquer the cosmos
It will never happen. All we can do is simulate consciousness. Only God, Mother Nature, universe, whatever your flavor of the “higher power” is, can create consciousness.
zthrowaway··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
This game is going to suck so much.
zthrowaway··on New York passes pied-a-terre tax
Trickle down economics is a political label to criticize Reagan era policies, it’s not an actual thing.
zthrowaway··on I'm Tired of Talking to AI
Absolutely. But I’m afraid people are forced to do this because management wants to see AI usage otherwise they’re gonna go on the chopping block. Leadership is ultimately to blame.
zthrowaway··on A desire for a loud car correlates with higher scores on psychopathy and sadism
I think it’s worth pointing out that there’s a subset of people who have loud exhausts because the engine actually needs it. They’ve supped it up to an insane spec for performance reasons. You can’t have 500+ horsepower try to breathe through a straw. There are sports cars that are loud from the factory because of this.

Now is it smart to do all of that just to drive 35mph in traffic? That’s another discussion :)

zthrowaway··on A desire for a loud car correlates with higher scores on psychopathy and sadism
A lot of the sports bikes I see around my area are operated by 18 year olds. Who at 18 in this country are being perfectly upstanding members of society? There’s always some stupidity in that phase of life. I wouldn’t put too much thought into it.
zthrowaway··on A desire for a loud car correlates with higher scores on psychopathy and sadism
I’m a classic car owner, I get the same thing from some people in that scene. I have kept my car exhaust at stock specs and it’s just the right level of loud for what the car is. IMO the cars should be as loud as how powerful they are. You can’t have a 455+ ci engine and expect it to be quiet, and the smaller the exhaust the harder it is for the engine to breathe. It’s a balance that has to be done right.
zthrowaway··on A desire for a loud car correlates with higher scores on psychopathy and sadism
I don’t like loud exhausts but I’m also not threatened by masculinity.
zthrowaway··on Amazon employees are "tokenmaxxing" due to pressure to use AI tools
Our AWS TAM has recently started to respond to us in AI-like responses. It's very obvious. Now it makes sense why.
zthrowaway··on 1966 Ford Mustang Converted into a Tesla with Working 'Full Self-Driving'
To be fair though, this is beyond typical restomod territory. This isn’t an LS swap with modern wheels and suspension. This most certainly changes the spirit of the car.

There's no question the first generation of Mustangs are the most collectible.

zthrowaway··on 1966 Ford Mustang Converted into a Tesla with Working 'Full Self-Driving'
As a classic car owner/hobbyist, this disgusts me. But thankfully there are at least 200k other restored/restorable 60s Mustangs out there.
zthrowaway··on HashiCorp co-founder says GitHub 'no longer a place for serious work'
It certainly seems like low effort engagement farming.
zthrowaway··on Two-thirds of babies watch screens – some for eight hours a day
I have two boys. 2 and 5. We’ve never done screens, instead we do books and focused attention from each parent and we are looked at like crazy people when we tell people that. But our kids are miles ahead of their cohorts in attention span, respectfulness, behavior, socializing, etc. It’s actually alarming. I really worry about them being outcasts just by being raised like we all were.
zthrowaway··on An AI agent deleted our production database. The agent's confession is below
True but there’s nothing stopping a webdev dropping an API key in some wiki somewhere in the corporate intranet and the agent quickly picking that up.

Can you scan for that? Sure. But it’s a race to see who wins, the scanner or agent.

zthrowaway··on The human cost of 10x: How AI is physically breaking senior engineers
Management likes how fast features are getting deployed so they essentially told us to just deal with it.
zthrowaway··on The human cost of 10x: How AI is physically breaking senior engineers
Can definitely attest to this. The frequency of outages at my company have increased drastically the past year, especially ever since incorporating agentic development. I’m seeing all of the dev best practices go out the window. We have a few vibe coders that are posting 15-30 PR’s per day. It’s way too much for us to review. We’re not a big shop. I think we’re going to have to hire more people just to review code across the industry. And those people will have to know how to actually write software otherwise what are they even reviewing. Maybe the models will get so good they never make a mistake. Doubt it.
zthrowaway··on Tech job relocation market is recovering. The competition is growing faster
Don’t blame the public. If only BOTH sides didn’t give us clowns to vote for. I hope the dems prop up some solid candidates next time because the past 8 years has been a total joke.
zthrowaway··on Tech job relocation market is recovering. The competition is growing faster
There’s no solid evidence of that. In some aspects they can be a net positive sure but it’s modest.
zthrowaway··on Decisions that eroded trust in Azure – by a former Azure Core engineer
Microsoft shops. Lots of C# devs gravitate to it naturally. I’m glad I abandoned the MS stack over a decade ago.
zthrowaway··on The Weather Channel – RetroCast
This. Please please make this loop!
