DaNmarner··on Getting Started with Just
In a sense, that's the goal :) Any Swift dev who's used python-requests should feel right at home with Just.
DaNmarner··on Project Fi by Google
This is just another manifestation of software eating the world. What makes Google competitive in any industry? Its talent in software.
DaNmarner··on Swift 1.2 and Xcode 6.3 beta
This might be easily overlooked: optional has been introduced (back-ported?) to Objective-C in the form of nullability annotation!
DaNmarner··on Sum Types in Go
On a side note, Swift's enum provides complete support for sum type.
DaNmarner··on Liu Cixin's “The Three-Body Problem” Is Published in the US
I grew up reading SciFi in both Mandarin and English. In my impression, though not flawless, this series is the only long-form novel produced in China that can stand among the best SciFi literature in the west.

It deserves to reach a larger audience :)

DaNmarner··on Futurama Canceled Again
I did the same. Whoever submitted this need to learn what "again" means.
DaNmarner··on The Last Question
I actually consider pointing out the scientific elements of a SF piece is the best kind of compliment.
DaNmarner··on The Last Question
The story boils down to:

1. Is the second law of thermodynamic wrong? 2. Does P equals NP (or, if 1 is true, then how and how long will it take to solve it?) 3. What's God?

DaNmarner··on Announcing Topaz: A New Ruby
RPython is the new C?
DaNmarner··on How SublimeText Bodybags vim+Terminator
However "X" body bags Vim, I will never switch.
DaNmarner··on Upverter Launches Teams Collaboration, Free for Open Source
Here's a very recent audio interview of its founder: http://techzinglive.com/page/1269/223-tz-interview-zak-homou...
DaNmarner··on Reasons to be excited about Java in 2013
If "JVM languages go from strength to strength" is a reason to get excited about Java in 2013, should I be already excited in 2012?
DaNmarner··on Censorship Lift for “V for Vendetta” Shocks China
These were the seven demands drafted by the students in Beijing (from Wikipedia):

1. Affirm as correct Hu Yaobang's views on democracy and freedom; 2. Admit that the campaigns against spiritual pollution and bourgeois liberalization had been wrong; 3. Publish information on the income of state leaders and their family members; 4. End the ban on privately run newspapers and stop press censorship; 5. Increase funding for education and raise intellectuals' pay; 6. End restrictions on demonstrations in Beijing 7. Provide objective coverage of students in official media.

DaNmarner··on Why a Computer Science Degree Matters
Drop the "Degree". Computer Science matters.
DaNmarner··on State of the Union Address for 2012 at 5by5
Very true. I'll miss the Siracusian-length rants.
DaNmarner··on State of the Union Address for 2012 at 5by5
According to Dan, Siracusa will make appearances in the new show called "The Crossover" (http://5by5.tv/crossover), aleit irregularly. All is not lost for Hypercritical listeners.
DaNmarner··on Time Spent Waiting for an Answer in StackOverflow (by language)
So Python is deliberately left out?
DaNmarner··on Time Spent Waiting for an Answer in StackOverflow (by language)
No Python, I'm starting to think OP is a troll.
DaNmarner··on Ask HN: Where do you keep your ideas?
A folder in Dropbox, containing each idea as either a text file or a folder of its own.

Sometimes the whole idea is one line as the file name. The content of the text file is the details of the idea. If I wrote some script or collected some information for this idea, it'll be in its folder.

DaNmarner··on Loren Brichter Made Sound Effects With His Mouth
He just talked about it in today's live stream of The Frequency. The episode will be out later today.
DaNmarner··on Why Doesn't Apple Buy Intel?
Apple is the biggest player in the mobile market, they aren't using Intel chips in iPads or iPhone/iPod Touchs. Kindle Fires have TI chips in them. The best selling Android smartphones from Samsung/HTC/Motorola all use ARM chips. Only of late, a couple of small mobile manufacturers announced that they are releasing Intel-based devices along side of their ARM devices.

I don't see what market Intel owns.

DaNmarner··on Why Doesn't Apple Buy Intel?
Acquiring Intel doesn't mean replacing it's business operation. What if Apple kept Intel running as is, but merely use their designing and manufacturing ability to get better chip for their hardware?
DaNmarner··on Why Doesn't Apple Buy Intel?
I did not provide any arguments above. At this point this thread is nothing but a bunch of 'yes' and 'no's.

See my update in op.

DaNmarner··on Why Doesn't Apple Buy Intel?
Can you provide your reasoning?
DaNmarner··on Congressman warns FTC To Leave Google alone
My take on this: lobbying works.
DaNmarner··on Reality revealed: The ultimate fabric of the universe (video)
Yes, number of subset of an empty set is 1, therefore an empty set is not equivalent to nothing.

Thanks for the quote!

DaNmarner··on Reality revealed: The ultimate fabric of the universe (video)
Empty set is not equivalent to nothingness. Therefore mathematics can not be constructed from empty set. So reality described by mathematics is not based on nothing.
DaNmarner··on Kindle Fire HD hurts Microsoft more than Apple
> “if Apple gives up its position” which it clearly hasn’t.

so, moot?

> Amazon is copying Apple’s playbook, page-by-page...

> What, after all, has Amazon (or Microsoft) actually invented here? Nothing. They’ve emulated Apple at a lower price point and to some extent disintermediated the mobile carriers.

Not according to Jeff Bezos, who spend a good portion of his presentation explaining how Amazon make money with their pricing strategy of the Kindles. The difference between iPad and Fire HD is not in price, but in their producers' business models.

The author clearly doesn't get it.

DaNmarner··on "Sometimes science must give way to religion"
Several hundred years ago, nobody understands acceleration. Several decades ago, nobody understands the theory of relativity. Today, nobody understands the Standard Model.

And they all submit to religion!

DaNmarner··on Rootbeer GPU Compiler Lets Almost Any Java Code Run On the GPU
The title captured the true character of Java: Write once, almost run almost everywhere.
