Dumblydorr··on Through Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart taught us the measure of a man
How do you figure Sisco was better in all those ways? I haven’t seen most of DS9 but I can’t imagine Picard being easily outshined.
Dumblydorr··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
Yeah talk about out of touch, does OP have that much? I’ve been in tech for 10 years, don’t have anywhere close to 5 million.
Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: How to deal with shipping AI-written code you don't understand?
Do you read all libraries and basal low level code beneath your projects? Do you understand fully the entire stack from you to silicon? If not this is just more layers of abstraction.
Dumblydorr··on Gold is now the top U.S. export
Whatever would give them that idea…
Dumblydorr··on AI is a tool and using it well takes skill
They’re comparable in an exponential view. I remember the librarian teaching us how to look through boxes of cards. Then Google came out a few years later. For a couple decades, Google-fu was a superpower that most people didn’t know they needed.
Dumblydorr··on Research Firm Calls Anthropic's IPO 'Unprecedented Test of Investor Gullibity'
Imagine Quoting anything from 2021 in a Thread about AI in 2026
Dumblydorr··on I am so tired of startups doing worse than me
Yeah a ton of great builds consumed. This is HN. There’s amazing bespoke tech everywhere and it’s oversupplied, that’s the real reason OP doesn’t get traction.

Just because you and the system of VCs and angels like a bro with connections and charm doesn’t mean we here do.

Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: Why aren't Americans rising up against tipping?
It’s a Lose for the employees of the current system. You’re cheekily superiorly saving a few bucks on a cause that isn’t going to be helped by snubbing a servicing worker.

There are a few tip free restaurants around, it’s sort of rare. Tipping at basically every random shop is out of control nowadays tho.

Dumblydorr··on How Protein Took over the World
Is it? They’re pricier, they’re not available in food deserts, they go bad much more quickly, and they require more skill to cook into a delicious meal.
Dumblydorr··on Claude Opus 5.5
What specifically is smarmy and weird? Sounds like your own hot take with zero analysis.

They’re limiting frontier model development speed. Others are too. Pacing is the only word here to criticize, and I think it’s fine given the limiting of speed but also increased oversight. I’m not saying they’re fully doing this, but the term is fine.

Do you have a better proposed phrase?

Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: Would a startup for young creatives who reject AI be feasible?
It may not be true that “most people who know what they’re doing” aren’t using AI. It’s infiltrating into every big company, thousands of very skillful people are all-in blasting out tons of code and work with it. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, just stating the view from industry is: heavy use often encouraged.
Dumblydorr··on Your intellectual fly is open when you use an LLM to author a post (2025)
All writing is thinking when done by a human, you’re literally distilling your thoughts into words. You can’t write without thought.

And not all thinking is writing is a clear truism, there’s no point to even stating that.

Writing helps us think about the world, it’s a pivotal intellectual technology.

Dumblydorr··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
It’s one piece of many. They never said it was the only piece. You’re straw-manning this comment.

And vegan diets would make a big dent, look up agricultural sector emissions, look up beef emissions and methane from their burps. It’s a major factor after transport and electricity.

Dumblydorr··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Wow obscure reference, the cookies are the AI in this? OpenAI and anthropic are Frog and Toad?
Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: How to break Claude Code addiction?
Flag this user for homophobic anti semitism, worst comment I’ve ever seen on HN.

How are they green and allowed to comment 10 mins after creation?

Dumblydorr··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
Per capita emissions are way higher in the USA. It’d make a much bigger dent if Americans changed their ways than citizens of developing nations.
Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: What's the AI Revolution "Model T Ford"?
I don’t think it’s silly to say there’s a potential revolution and ask what it might be. Overly cynical comment I think, trying to be Vaclav Smil in a conversation not mentioning energy.
Dumblydorr··on How I use LLMs to learn complex topics
Might be a reference to the story at the beginning of A Brief History of Time, attributed to Bertrand Russell’s audience member.

Full story in the book

Dumblydorr··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
Price point: they’ll be very low volume and very high price. There’s enough inequality and plenty of cash at the top to support such luxury robots. Everyone else will be doing their chores the old fashioned way, with their own hands.
Dumblydorr··on The lost civic life of movie rental stores
“Never” is a bit presumptuous. Sure you didn’t use them that way, how do you know for sure others didn’t?
Dumblydorr··on It's getting harder to focus every day
You don’t necessarily want to daydream. If you’re not careful, it becomes Negative rumination and mind wandering and that wouldn’t be as useful as an actual nap or a workout or meditation.
Dumblydorr··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Wow! Can I ask how Kagi is best for your uses? Would love to try myself
Dumblydorr··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Yeah that one was praising in a non-specific way. Whether or not it’s genuinely a user, it did feel like astroturfing, which is sad if it’s a real comment that they can’t compliment a good service.
Dumblydorr··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
Are many folks on HN using Facebook? To me, most tech savvy folks I know left it a decade ago. All the FB users I know are 60+
Dumblydorr··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
We should normalize taking gap years and doing public service before undergrad. If a kids uncertain about their future, should we push them into school at 18, or push them into national parks maintenance, inner city volunteering, or any other public duty? The latter doesn’t make as much money for the banks and colleges, but may do more good. Plus the kids will have experience and wisdom and see the world before taking a mortgage out on their brain.
Dumblydorr··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
What about 17 year olds? Many kids have to decide before their 18th birthday. Even then, most kids turned 18 just months ago. Are they mature enough to sign?
Dumblydorr··on Ask HN: Burned Tokens scented candle ideas
Actual feces
Dumblydorr··on Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch)
Either they underestimate, which is ignorance, or they estimate properly and are anti-truth.

What use do propagandists and fascists have for research? It only stands to continually disprove their lies. They obviously hate science and truth and want it gone, to be replaced with cult of personality and Christian nationalism.

Dumblydorr··on GLM 5.2 and the coming AI margin collapse
“Brought on by government edict”

No, brought on by a novel pathogen that killed 10 million people. It would’ve been much worse without government action.

Dumblydorr··on Learning to code is still worthwhile
Thin post with more ads for their company than arguments.

Many pursuits are worthwhile, yet almost no one does most pursuits. Coding is going to become a niche activity like portrait painting or making toys. It’s fun but there’s far cheaper easier ways to get a superior product.
