Gerlo··on Intel announces the Aurora supercomputer has broken the exascale barrier
>Announcement was in 2015. I'm curious whether Argonne are pleased with it.

All I'll say is that you can probably guess how they feel about it given the context.

Gerlo··on Intel announces the Aurora supercomputer has broken the exascale barrier
Aurora was supposed to go into production years ago and be the first exascale supercomputer. Intel is dog shit, so this kept getting delayed. Now they're going for the two exaflop mark. It's pathetic that Aurora is only now benchmarking over an exaflop, and it's even more pathetic than this is apparently newsworthy.
Gerlo··on Show HN: CarCheck – Car Buying Checklist App
I subscribed to the mailing list and look forward to the unified app! I was going to put together a personal checklist for a house and car, but I never got around to it. So thanks for saving me the time!

I haven't looked at the app too closely yet, but is it possible to add my own custom criteria, too?

Gerlo··on KeePassXC Debian maintainer has removed all network features
My favorite part is that this guy works at Canonical.
Gerlo··on R/Java bans Kevin Bourrillion because he mentioned another programming language
The mods deserve it. You or I would not be unbanned so easily.
Gerlo··on Tvix – A New Implementation of Nix
Why?
Gerlo··on I Lost Faith in Kagi
The author sounds unhinged. Also, their email address is kobld@proton.me, and Protonmail easily lets you block email addresses or entire domains. The author comes off as an attention-seeking baby.
Gerlo··on Shell History Is Your Best Productivity Tool
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "everything that comes across the screen?" Does this include the outputs from your commands? If so, what do you use to do this?
Gerlo··on Eight U.S. States Now Have Plans to Ban Sales of Gas-Powered Cars
You think the market isn't capable of adapting to changes in the availability resources on its own? That's ridiculous.
Gerlo··on Colon Cancer Is Rising in Young People: What to Know About Causes and Symptoms
Why did this post completely disappear from nearly the top of the front page? It's not even in the top 200.
Gerlo··on Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison
Dang. He certainly called it.
Gerlo··on Ask HN: What is a HN unpopular opinion that you hold?
>Donald Trump has said he wants to be a dictator

Then he did a piss poor job of that considering he's not the president anymore.

Gerlo··on Intel to Receive $8.5B in Grants to Build Chip Plants
My employer spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Intel hardware for a major system, and it still hasn't seen the light of day due to complete incompetence on Intel's part. I look forward to seeing how they mismanage this money.
Gerlo··on French court issues damages award for violation of GPL
Wait, you were in jail for 10 years? What happened?
Gerlo··on Mozilla names new CEO as it pivots to data privacy
Thank goodness. Mitchell Baker was running Mozilla into the ground while stuffing her pockets.

>Doubling down on our core products, like Firefox...

The fact that they acknowledged Firefox at all gives me some hope.

Gerlo··on Tech predictions for 2024 and beyond
Sorry, "shamed" is a bit hyperbolic. But I was more or less told on one of the sysadmin subreddits that there is no pride to be taken in work accomplished with the assistance of LLM's, even if that work is good.
Gerlo··on Tech predictions for 2024 and beyond
I've been shamed for using LLM's heavily despite my productivity being through the roof.
