Invictus0··on I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
DHH's beliefs are fine and valid, and no, I'm not easily offended. The author is slimy because he doesn't contest anything DHH says, he just wags his finger vaguely in DHH's direction and cries "I quit" because some guy that he's never even met has views different than his own.

Looks so soulless. I really prefer Google's approach with the fabric textures.
Invictus0··on Why aren't AI companies being charged for hacking?
Bringing charges is at the discretion of the prosecutor, and the CEOs of these companies are dining with the president. Learn a little bit about how power works.
Invictus0··on What should we tell our students?
Stop the nonsense. 99% of monks are not scientists.

what?
Invictus0··on What should we tell our students?
The difference between math and all the other professions AI has been obsoleting is that math is actually not a useful pursuit. The tired old line about math someday discovering something that will be useful in an entirely unrelated field is mostly baloney, and the problems that mathematicians spend their years broadly have no real world applications at all. A modern day mathematician is much closer to a monk than a productive worker.

The people that deserve the jobs are Americans. It doesnt matter if a foreigner is more skilled--the American people don't want to complete for jobs in a global labor market.
Invictus0··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
I find this argument to be extremely ridiculous. They solved some math problems and published the results for free. No one asked them to do it, they weren't paid, and they don't owe anyone anything. Who exactly is exploited and excluded? The entire notion of open public information is that you can do anything you want with it, including build private systems. Is a baker "exploitative and exclusionary" for reading a recipe in a book and then turning around and selling that bread to customers, without sharing the recipe with the customers?

Invictus0··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
Math isn't scientific, none of that is "problematic"
Invictus0··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
I think you mean a "lecture on AI". Funny to imagine a person in the year 2000 thinking about why this clarification would be necessary.
Invictus0··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
Things can not have an "internal world" and still be conscious. Newborns are conscious but they still have no idea what is going on for a while.

Can someone please explain to me how the recent llm cache breakthrough doesn't alleviate this memory shortage issue? https://intl.cloud.baidu.com/en/article/8937874

Sure, will fix
Invictus0··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
believe me, im not in support of the delinquents. but they dont just go away. they stay in society. they vote and consume resources. if you dont get them to a point of self-sufficiency, they will happily become leeches on the rest of society anyway.
Invictus0··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
> There is a failure to understand that the process is the result

I'm glad to hear people say this now, because for the longest time they've also been bullshitting the public to think that pure math studies would someday lead to some kind of useful outcome.

"transforming the mind" is an exercise in ego-driven self-gratification, no different than getting ten degrees and never getting a job, nor any different than straight up porn or gambling. You have been put on earth to contribute to the progress of humanity, so get dirty and start making commodities. no more useless math-monks.

Invictus0··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
Cybersecurity is a fragile system in Taleb's fragile-robust-antifragile framework. That is, as t->infinity, the probability of a hack approaches 1, because you only need to slip up once, and there is a small probability of the system's maintainers slipping up each day.
