KT-222··on Surviving "The Graduate"
Apocryphal (but probably directionally correct) story I've heard is that Redford didn't understand why Mike Nichols didn't want him for the lead. He really needed an explanation. So Nichols tries to explain the mood he is going for with the character and says something like "You know that feeling when you are out at a bar and you ask a girl to go home with you and she turns you down?" And Redford is confused and is like "um...no...wait, is that a thing that actually happens?"

literally from the federal case we are discussing...

"Given Kyle's speed, Alaniz had an objectively reasonably basis to stop the Mazda for violation of 47 O.S. 11-310""

I guess you and the federal court in the Tenth Circuit disagree on that...

KT-222··on Footage of the Flock search that a judge ruled was uncosntitutional
I'm 20 minutes into the bodycam.

1) She has no paperwork for the rental vehicle. physical or email.

2) She has an operating radar detector. (illegal in Oklahoma. I didn't know this was still a thing)

3) She admits to a 2 night stay in California driving from Missouri.

4) She has a lot of luggage for a 2 night trip to California. (Officer's opinion, she doesn't necessarily disagree about the quantity of luggage, but makes an excuse)

5) When the officer tells her his dog is going to search after she refuses consent, she admits to having marijuana which is still illegal in Oklahoma.

To me this is might be probable cause without any Flock information. She admitted to driving a rental car that she has no information on during the 4k mile, 2 night trip to California. She admitted to possessing marijuana. I think this whole scenario goes the same way if Flock cameras didn't exist.

KT-222··on I'm a scam prevention expert and I got scammed
I was at my local coffee shop yesterday when the manager was on the phone for 10+ minutes with a scammer. Was a new one to me.

The landline caller ID showed "Madison Police Dept" - the local police. The caller introduced themselves as an investigator working a case with counterfeit bills. "Don't contact your boss/owner because we are not sure if they are in on it." The caller knew details like employees names and the layout of the store. The manager was going through the cash in the back "confirming" serial numbers when the owner got in touch and cleared things up.

I was confused about the end game for the scam, but online I've read a version where they send a courier to pick up the "counterfeit" bills. There's also a version where they convince the employee to purchase moneypak cards to be deposited into an account so that the 6AM audit shows balanced books making up for the counterfeit bills that will be confiscated. [1]

To a person that doesn't know caller ID can be spoofed, getting a call that shows up as coming from the local police department can put you in a mental state that it 100% is the police, and it will take a lot of counter information to realize that it isn't. Between that and the convincing reason to "don't tell your boss", I'm afraid this might be an effective scam until it's more widely known.

KT-222··on How the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is being built [video]
I'm not sure they are doing that much better than the US. The completion date for this bridge is (currently) estimated at 2029. Fun sequence of sentences from its wiki page...

"and the tunnel idea received support from a large majority of the Danish parliament in January 2011. By 2012, therefore, the completion date had been pushed back to 2021, and in 2014 was estimated to be 2024, and then in 2015 delayed further to 2028. In 2020 it was delayed to 2029."

I had never heard of them before tonight, but the line graphs under each logo on their home page are well done.

KT-222··on Uber discusses plan to lay off about 20% of employees
This was sloppy reporting/writing. The "revenue to nosedive by $17 million to $22 million" was the specific effect only attributable to their Covid-19 financial assistance program. Here's the quote directly from Uber's release:

"To support those whose earning opportunities have been depressed as a result of COVID-19, as well as communities hit hard by the virus, we announced and implemented several initiatives during the first quarter of 2020, including a financial assistance program for drivers and delivery people. We intend to account for this program as Contra Revenue, which we expect will reduce GAAP Revenue by an estimated $17 to $22 million in Q1 and an estimated $60 to $80 million in Q2."

KT-222··on Tesla’s Autopilot found partly to blame for 2018 crash on the 405
Did the sun play a role in this? This picture from the report shows a low sun directly ahead. (Southbound 405 is going SSE in Culver City. 8:40AM accident)

https://imgur.com/a/OaHNqdQ

Assuming it was taken ~1 hour after accident, the sun would have been lower and to the left at time of the accident. The slightly askew firetruck might have been basically facing the sun, and its prominent rear features would have been in as much as shadow as possible. Obviously there were other factors involved (yes, ultimately driver's fault), but do Tesla's cameras have the dynamic range to be looking directly at a low sun and also see details in shadows? Originally I thought this was a high-speed accident and am surprised to learn it happened between 20-30 MPH.
