LastTrain··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Its about 50/50 in my experience. On a barely related note, while at a wedding I met someone whose son works for the Trump admin and swore up and down that Trump is just the nicest person and oh so generous. I'm sure he seems that way to some people if they don't look beyond twenty yards or so.
LastTrain··on Around a dozen banking apps began specifically permitting GrapheneOS
Oh this argument again? Yeah why have any laws at all /s
LastTrain··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
It is a dark pattern causing the advertised rate to be lower so the listing will get included in more filters etc.

[edit] I checked and they changed this in April of 2025, as of then the fee is rolled up in the advertised rate.

LastTrain··on No more icons in every menu by default
You are right but man the new Fig Newton packaging looks just like the store brand fruit cookies what were they thinking?
LastTrain··on Musk Ordered Starlink Slowdown That Blindsided Ukraine
Oh right it is all just /so/ confusing lets all just give up /s
LastTrain··on Musk ordered Starlink slowdown that blindsided Ukraine
Well if it is close don’t expect the results to be accepted.
LastTrain··on Musk ordered slowdown of Starlink in Ukraine
Seems like one person amassing that much wealth is a national security risk. There is no 25th amendment for a CEO with majority control.
LastTrain··on Tesla Roadster
No "it" doesn't fly, whatever that thing they demoed did though.
LastTrain··on DeepInfer: High-performance inference framework for DeepSeek models
Those arguments will go away when spending on AI infrastructure is no longer some multiple of gross annual software sales revenue, yeah?
LastTrain··on The reverts will continue until morale improves
It is a play on the old joke “The beatings will continue until morale approves.”
LastTrain··on Recreational Programming
This describes me, or described me - AI has brought on some existential feelings about programming as a hobby for the moment.
LastTrain··on Blood cells from 80-year-old donor become stem cells with molecular age under 20
Playing along here, they don’t need /all/ of us to survive, just the desirable ones.
LastTrain··on HashiCorp archives the Boundary open source repo
Just train your llm on it and create virtually the same thing it’s like a copyright get out of jail free card.
LastTrain··on The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening
It’s like the aliens paradox. If AI can build killer software already, where is it?
LastTrain··on The super intelligence shit is a humiliation ritual for OpenAI
But it isn't. He has a couple of tools he uses to measure loyalty of and to debase his followers. This is the former, it makes it very easy to see who is loyal and who is not. The tool to debase those that are loyal to him: he makes them repeat lies and accept increasingly morally decrepit things, kind of like how a pimp operates. We're currently on the "public executions" phase of that tool. These are not things that should be ignored and aren't simply the actions of a decaying mind.
LastTrain··on The super intelligence shit is a humiliation ritual for OpenAI
You can't seriously, this far into Trump, be asking this question. It is a loyalty test and those that are loyal will get more rewards.
LastTrain··on The super intelligence shit is a humiliation ritual for OpenAI
You forgot public executions!
LastTrain··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
Yes nothing politically divisive about renaming a common term and calling people who don’t use the new term THE ENEMY.
LastTrain··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
Picking your least favorite companies and applying it to them only is not the right thing to do. Laws and regulations, when not applied equally, are weapons.
LastTrain··on Open Source as We Know It Is Dead
There was a time before programming, hacking, open source, and related communities. These things did not exist even 60 years ago. There will be a time after them, and we’ll move on to something else.
LastTrain··on One person can now be a quorum at the SEC
Well he has a plan to cut his department's work in half!

LastTrain··on Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections
Yeah that is all horrible but it doesn't make me want to commit homicide.
LastTrain··on Burning Man death rates – A short lesson in statistics
> The people are all hyper liberal, and the types that cannot help but judge individuals based on whether they’re in their group on not.

I agree that is a trait of the hyper liberal, but it belongs to hyper conservative people too. Also, given your feelings, why did you go a second time?

LastTrain··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
But you said this was obviously due to a decline in homeownership, which it isn’t.
LastTrain··on 500k facial scans at UK stations yield no arrests, 1 false positive
OK, so turn them on 100%, scale (your numbers here) the results out to 50 million faces. Now you have still caught 0 criminals and you have 500 false positives.
LastTrain··on You are no longer invited to dinner
We’re not comparing you to your friends, we’re comparing people today to people in 1975z You said you host a couple a year. The article said people in ‘75 hosted once a month. So you, a homeowner, already reflect this massive drop. The decrease in hosting is over 60% regardless of age, homeownership is UP in the same time period, down 10% in the youngest cohort, not enough to account for the massive drop in dinner parties.
LastTrain··on Why Doesn't Anyone Want to Fix One of America's Scariest Roads?
Scary doesn't mean deadly, this road isn't anywhere near the top of the list for most deadly roads.
LastTrain··on You are no longer invited to dinner
I would bet these days 80 year olds are having about as many dinner parties as 23 year olds. The topic here isn’t general observations about home ownership, it is whether home ownership rate since 1970 caused a drop in dinner parties by 68%. It didn’t.
