Moomoomoo309··on Should Police Wipe a Criminal's Cellphone Before Returning It?–U.S. vs. Stathas
One example I can think of is that there was a car accident involving some cop cars, and when discovery came around, they gave certain pieces of evidence to my father's client, certain evidence to the third guy, and my father's client settled, and he talked to the lawyer for the other client and gave him the rest of the evidence. They're supposed to give all the evidence to everyone, not only give the evidence that won't help that person, and that's exactly what they did.
Moomoomoo309··on Should Police Wipe a Criminal's Cellphone Before Returning It?–U.S. vs. Stathas
My father was a lawyer, so I got a lot of stories from him where cops did a lot of slimy stuff because they could get away with it or because they were allowed to do it by the letter of the law.
Moomoomoo309··on Should Police Wipe a Criminal's Cellphone Before Returning It?–U.S. vs. Stathas
Nothing you've said is incorrect, but at the same time, the choice comes down to either limiting the power of cops or expanding it. I'd rather limit it, it's an endless cat and mouse game and if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile every time. Giving them the inch because justice isn't real anyway isn't going to make anything better.
Moomoomoo309··on Outrage after airport self-service checkout asks for 18% tip
Newark can't be fixed either. The runways are too close, and the airport is boxed in completely by highways, including US1-9, I-78, and the NJ Turnpike (I-95). They'd have to move half the runways over and probably take some space from the buildings to do it, and in Jersey, the unfathomably high cost of doing that would never get approved, especially since the port authority would have their sticky fingers all over it.

Moomoomoo309··on Should Police Wipe a Criminal's Cellphone Before Returning It?–U.S. vs. Stathas
Though I understand your argument, this is exactly the logic used to undermine people's rights. Initially, rights are only eroded for murderers or pedophiles or rapists, but it doesn't take long for it to be used against someone who tries to expose a police department's corruption. The most heinous cases are where it is most important to not set bad precedent, because those are where the seeds of abuse of power are sown.
Moomoomoo309··on iPhone Duo Teardown
Is that true of both the PS5 and PS5 Pro, or just one of the two? My impression of that situation was that the PS5 Pro was in high demand because of GTA6, but the regular PS5 was plentiful.
Moomoomoo309··on Serbia's Vucic concedes election defeat in historic win for student movement
You have it backwards. One cannot assert a problem exists without evidence. Don't ask them to prove a negative, it's literally impossible. You must prove the positive, that voter fraud exists.
Moomoomoo309··on U.S. Supreme Court to review 1868 federal ban on home distilling of liquor
I think an ultrasonic cleaner can speed it up, just make sure your vessel with the alcohol in it is sealed first, so no vapors come out. I've tried it before, it isn't perfect, but it works better than you'd expect for maybe an hour or two of time spent.
Moomoomoo309··on Maxwell: A new kind of model that sits between code and hardware
What antisemitism? Antizionism is not antisemitism, period. Do not conflate the two.
Moomoomoo309··on Tesla's Robotaxis Blow Through School Zones, NHTSA Petition Alleges
I live in NJ, and what I like to say is that the drivers here actually know how to drive safely and correctly, they simply choose not to. When push comes to shove or they realize they can't drive like a jerk, they immediately cooperate and things move efficiently. It's not a knowledge problem, it's an attitude problem.

What's misleading? You just said it's not a steel exoskeleton, and that the panels were glued on. If your point is that a true exoskeleton isn't needed for sufficient rigidity and strength, sure, fine, but you should make that claim and point out why it's misleading, all you've said is that the claim is correct, but that other cars are made similarly.
Moomoomoo309··on Yandex outage: data shows that instead of going dark, malicious bots moved
The APIs you'd use to get this data have pretty much all been taken down in the last few years. That's why you don't really see social media analysis anymore.

Moomoomoo309··on YC employee blocks Jews from hackathon
I think the title of this post is actually incorrect. It seems they actually blocked this guy from the hackathon due to his former employment with Israeli national defense. Could someone provide me with any evidence that they've banned Jews, as opposed to this specific person?
Moomoomoo309··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
The name has not been legally changed. The law still says it is the department of defense, regardless of what name they choose to use.
Moomoomoo309··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
Your exact words were "housing is much more affordable for younger people in those states", which, even by the numbers you have cited, is not correct. More affordable? Sure, we are number 5 or 6, not number 1. Much more affordable? Come on now.

And no, I don't think prop 13 style laws would be helpful, it would just create more problems, as it has in California.

Moomoomoo309··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
As someone from NJ...you think seniors and young people don't have affordability problems, especially wrt housing here, in the 5th most expensive state to buy a house? (California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Washington, New Jersey, in that order, according to redfin, if you're going by house cost to income ratio, NJ is 6th)

Moomoomoo309··on Economics Nobel Laureates' Letter Supporting the California Billionaire Tax [pdf]
Your argument, as I understand it, is "In current communist countries, things are bad, therefore, nothing communism-adjacent or communism-inspired should be attempted or tried.", is that right? I think there's a bit of a logical leap there from their issues to all communism-inspired taxation.
Moomoomoo309··on American Medical Association backs classification of nearsightedness as disease
I don't think you'd make it far as a hunter-gatherer if you had physiological myopia. Both of my parents are severely nearsighted (my dad around -4 or -5, my mom is worse than -8), and all of my siblings have myopia. It's definitely genetic too, but for less severe myopia, I think it's our environment.
Moomoomoo309··on Four Weeks of a Vegan Diet Alter Signs of Inflammation and Aging
That makes sense, thank you!
Moomoomoo309··on Four Weeks of a Vegan Diet Alter Signs of Inflammation and Aging
In such a world, if we still kept cats as pets, how would we feed them? Would non-industrial, more small-scale farming of animals be able to sustain that, or would exceptions need to be made? I use cats in this example since they, unlike dogs, are carnivores, and they must eat meat to live healthily (unlike us, where a bit of supplementation is enough for entirely vegan diets to be viable).

I'm curious how problems like this would be dealt with in a vegan world. Just let the cats loose on the local rodent and bird population, maybe?

Moomoomoo309··on Four Weeks of a Vegan Diet Alter Signs of Inflammation and Aging
What is the term for the vegan diet sans the ethical framework? If there isn't one, that kinda sucks.
Moomoomoo309··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
Are there historical examples of this ever happening in any significant numbers? This idea that people en masse just won't work and live off of the state where opportunities for work are reasonably available seems more like a boogeyman than a real thing. (obviously, if work is not really available, I can see this happening, but I wouldn't describe the people unable to find work as "leisurely" in that case)
Moomoomoo309··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Legally, the corporation itself is similar to a person and has rights unto itself, as stupid as that sounds. Those rights are different from those the individuals who run the company have.

The person you replied to said many of them were armed, then said more than one did that, and you took that to mean that's the only reason any of them do that? I think you misread.
