NetTechM··on [dead]
An entire blog about hypothetical things that could happen while playing Pokémon Go, but didn't. Based on the authors personal 20 minute walk around his neighborhood where nothing significant happened. Started with a paragraph that is completely unrelated... More click bait titles with no substance.
NetTechM··on Microsoft to charge 7$ per user monthly subscription for windows 10(Enterprise)
This seems pretty ridiculous, for an enterprise network with 20,000+ end users, where is the incentive to pay $140,000 per month with minimal, if any, increased profit margins using windows 10 over windows 7?
NetTechM··on Bayesian Analysis of Racial Bias in Police Shootings in the United States
This seems like a really badly done study for multiple reasons. One, as a Hispanic, I would expect there to be a huge jump in numbers of Hispanics being killed in obvious places, Texas, California, Miami, new York. Half of the data is extremely slanted, there is no way that there are even a 10th the amount of anyone else being killed in some of those places (Miami) and yet the numbers are skewed to the point of hilarity towards the other races even in obvious places.
NetTechM··on My roommate received this email from a Microsoft recruiter today
More than likely a third party advertiser hired to attract young people as prospective interns.

Looks like they will probably be effective, only thing they didn't promise was strippers.

NetTechM··on Washington Has Been Obsessed with Punishing Secrecy Violations, Until H. Clinton
Well written article.

I could care less about politics, what upsets me is that someone gets away Scot free with multiple crimes when we have people getting put away for years for having less pot than you can hold in one hand. Or how about all those people that got put away for 30+ years for the exact same crimes i.e. Chelsea Manning.

Freedom and Justice for Some indeed.

NetTechM··on Would a Work-Free World Be So Bad?
I'm going to guess that a good portion of the depressed people reportedly unemployed, would list their reason as "Broke".

Might explain why there are double the numbers of depressed people in the unemployed vs the employed. Not so much a lack of purpose, but a lack of money.

Money might not buy happiness, but its a lot easier to be happy with money than it is without it.

NetTechM··on Egypt Cancels DST
Can we cancel the heat that comes with summer too?
NetTechM··on [dead]
Right, that's not politically motivated at all...Much like the Huffington post.

NetTechM··on ACLU suing US over law that could let software discriminate by race or gender
Obviously not suggesting that.

The law in question is "No unauthorized access or entry to computer systems"...

NetTechM··on How Amazon Triggered a Robot Arms Race
Thanks for that, I was initially "lost in the sauce" as it were.
NetTechM··on Ask HN: Did anyone's life ever gotten more comfortable after accepting funding?
Fiscal pressure declines, investor pressure increases exponentially.
NetTechM··on Rm -rf / in Windows Subsystem for Linux reveals sharp set of teeth
The --no-preserve-root is the safety net of sorts. If you deliberately type it, you obviously know what you are asking for.
NetTechM··on Artificial Intelligence’s White Guy Problem
Considering it is an opinion piece from the times, I am going to guess that very little actual research went into this.

Let me see some code that alludes to racism or sexism and not just an analytical algorithm that says yes, this guy that has a long history of being arrested has a good chance of being arrested again.

I highly doubt that biometrics are being used to assess these things when proven data is exponentially more reliable.

NetTechM··on ACLU suing US over law that could let software discriminate by race or gender
Good luck with winning that lawsuit. Overturning that law would literally make hacking for profit a free for all.

It would be ironic if the ACLU were to be hacked, just to show why the law is in place.

NetTechM··on A School Where the Students Hire Their Teachers
This is an intriguing system, on the one hand I imagine this will prepare kids for the business world on an exponential level... on the other, I hope there are safety nets created through policy that regulate fiscal decisions.
NetTechM··on Doctors issue warning about effects of LED streetlights on health
I would argue that people with those crazy LED headlights are even worse. Since I often work late, I get the pleasure of being temporarily blinded as a white dwarf passes by at 45mph regularly.
NetTechM··on Half Blamed the EU for Their Problems, Blame Facebook for Yours
I worded that awkwardly, I meant as long as they aren't doing anything illegal. Since an opinion is impossible to classify as illegal.
NetTechM··on Half Blamed the EU for Their Problems, Blame Facebook for Yours
That's all opinion, I'm sure their opinion is just as important to them as yours is to you... I still don't think I would unfriend someone because their opinion differs from mine. Unless it was illegal or harmful to others in a real way... live and let live.
NetTechM··on Half Blamed the EU for Their Problems, Blame Facebook for Yours
It would seem rather petty to unfriend someone based on political differences. I suppose at that rate the friendship wasn't worth much to begin with.
NetTechM··on Half Blamed the EU for Their Problems, Blame Facebook for Yours
I think it helps that HN has a common factor to bind us together. Professional Techies may be able to disagree in a less flamboyant style in most situations because at the end of the day politics is mainly seen in the light of how it affects the tech industry as a whole.

While there are also some folks that are undoubtedly passionate about their particular political views, they mainly get well thought out replies as to the argument they are presenting for and against... even if some people get a bit passive aggressive with the down voting.

NetTechM··on We built voice modulation to mask gender in technical interviews
I think you are talking about affirmative action, not so much a specific guide to hiring process. The law states that x ratio of specific minorities have to be hired/enrolled per year as a catch up mechanism that is largely outdated in 2016.

As far as University enrollment, women have led the numbers for years so that isn't really at the heart of it. More so the subjects they choose as a major/minor being the issue.

Marketing STEM majors to minorities and women has been a priority for a short amount of time, so we will see how it pans out in the next decade.

NetTechM··on We built voice modulation to mask gender in technical interviews
I liked this article, well written and thought provoking. I am curious if this attrition effect plays a large part in graduate rates from STEM programs.
NetTechM··on How to Compromise the Enterprise Endpoint
Quite a few major enterprises use SEP/SEPM in combination with other IPS/IDS. Time to make sure everything is updated I suppose. Good work project zero.
NetTechM··on To Compete Better, States Are Trying to Curb Noncompete Pacts
I'd be on board with this idea. Australia seems to have a very worker supportive law system though.
NetTechM··on Hacking suspect could kill himself if extradited to US, court told
Sounds like a really weak excuse to weasel out of it.

"Don't let me answer for capital crimes, I might kill myself!"

NetTechM··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
Royal TS v3, Solarwinds, SQL Server Management Studio 2014,Python, Cisco Jabber, (Mobile) Secure Apps Manager, Mobile Iron, Powershell, Paessler Data Extractor, PRTG, Vsphere, Sourcefire/Firepower... The list goes on.
NetTechM··on Ford Uses Firewatch Visuals for Sales Event
I would be just as shocked as the developers, who would think using Firewatch as advertising would be a good idea?
NetTechM··on As an English European, this is the biggest defeat of my political life
Hardly a majority at 9% though, in most cases 9% is just as good as 0%. lol
NetTechM··on Tony Blair: Brexit’s Stunning Coup
I am an American and so had a previously existing account with Amazon.com. I had it shipped to a friend at a military base in Frankfurt and I just popped down from Berlin to pick them up once I had a small stockpile.
NetTechM··on Inappropriate Uses of Google Trends
Well written article! I always find it funny when the media claims a majority with their wording when in fact it is an extreme minority.

Like those afflicted with H1N1/Bird Flu/zika/ebola etc.. all are dwarfed by people that die every year from the common flu and yet the news portrays them as epidemics to drum up viewers for a week or two.
