ProZsolt··on New iPad mini
A 40% price increase compared to pre June pricing, a 60Hz display (that’s likely just software locked), and still starting at 128GB of storage.

I was actually excited for this, but now I’m going to pass.

ProZsolt··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
We have standard labeling since 2021, the problem manufactures don't use it.
ProZsolt··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
You mean something like this, which we have since 2021: https://learn.adafruit.com/understanding-usb-type-c-cable-ty...
ProZsolt··on Apple to skip high-end M6 Mac chips in favor of AI-focused M7 line
If you're happy with the base model, then Apple has a great value/price ratio, but there's nothing below it and any upgrade is really bad value for the money.
ProZsolt··on Dell UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor
I went from 34"(3440x1440) which felt a little bit small to 38"(3840x1600) and it is nearly perfect. I can have my main window in the middle and 2 or 4 smaller windows (logs, chat, youtube, etc) on the side.

The only thing I want now is double pixel density.

The problem with third party cookies that it can track you across multiple websites.

ProZsolt··on Show HN: I'm an airline pilot – I built interactive graphs/globes of my flights
Sometimes I wish software development didn’t pay so exceptionally well. I’m interested in so many other things, but it’s hard to justify switching to another full-time field, knowing it would mean a significant pay cut.
ProZsolt··on MacBook Air M4
I don't think they really need to. You can have the base model with the same specs, but let me configure it with a better display. I can currently spec up a Mac Mini without any problem.

The second option is to bring back the MacBook brand for entry level devices and use the Air brand for "Pro" devices that don't require active cooling.

ProZsolt··on MacBook Air M4
Doesn't matter to me if I still have to buy the chunky Pro to get a decent display.

The current Air is great as an entry level device, but there is an underserved segment here.

ProZsolt··on The introverts are winning
I lived in multiple places in Europe and it was the same.
ProZsolt··on Europe is in danger of regulating its tech market out of existence
There is a strong difference here: Smartphones are kind of essential to our modern life, game consoles aren't.
ProZsolt··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com alternative
I attend 1-3 meetups a month, the recent changes made it unusable for me. They want $10 a month just to check who will be attending. I don't say they should provide everything for free, but that pricing is ridiculous.
ProZsolt··on The Website Obesity Crisis (2015)
I really appreciate HN's simplicity and functional design. I mis one or two features (like unread messages), but I rather have less than a bloatware.
ProZsolt··on Airbus Shatters Record for Jet Orders as Demand Soars

Half Life was one of the games that has native ports an run fine on OSX before Catalina.
ProZsolt··on Google's Local Guides program's policy enforcement is the worst
The same thing happened to me and my SO. I few years ago we moved to the UK from Hungary. Most of the past contribution was removed.
ProZsolt··on USB-C cable with the bandwidth and USB type imprinted on the connector
There are only two types capabilities of a cable speed (480 Mb, 5Gb, 20Gb, 40Gb or 80Gb) and power (60W (3A) or 240W (5A)) everything else is depends on the host.
ProZsolt··on USB-C cable with the bandwidth and USB type imprinted on the connector
There is no such thing. It's only depends on the USB version.

ProZsolt··on Sennheiser HD 555 to HD 595 Mod
You can look at it from a different angle, that you pay $150 less for pretty much the same headset, as the more expensive one paid the research.

I can argue that why do I have to pay 1000$ for a software, when the hobby tier is free, it is pretty much the same application.

ProZsolt··on Stop eliminating good candidates by asking them the wrong questions
Maybe they didin't calculated the digits, like this:

if toInt(number) % 10 != 0

  print number
else

  print number + "(" + number[0] + "," + number[1] + ")"
ProZsolt··on Stop eliminating good candidates by asking them the wrong questions
The funny thing I joined a company where we building a database from the ground up. Regularly implementing algorithms and data structures from white papers. So it is as far from the crud style work as possible. The interview was just talking to different engineers about interesting problems, like you would do at a conference or at a meetup. No leetcode, no whiteboard, no take home or resembling a technical interview. But somehow they managed to build a top notch team, one of the best I ever worked with.
ProZsolt··on Monoliths are not dinosaurs
But you can make a "new service" in code in the same binary communicating through memory. You can then separate it to a separate binary, when the network and serialisation overhead worth it. 80% of the time it will never come.
ProZsolt··on First clean water, now clean air
I'm currently developing my own monitor based on Sensirion SCD40(CO2/temperature/humidity) and Plantower PMS7003(PM2.5). The SCD40 is lot smaller than any NDIR sensor, but with the same accuracy[1].

My goal is to get a cheap (~$50) sensor in a small package that I can put in every room in my house. It will be modular so I skip the display and the PM2.5 sensor and it can be cheap as ~$25

ProZsolt··on Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts

ProZsolt··on AirPods Pro case converted from Lightning to USB-C with open-source PCB
By spec USB-C chargers don't even provide 5V without a pulldown resistor on the CC lines. It's safe to connect two compliant USB-C charges together.
ProZsolt··on MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max
It would be pretty hard to put a charge on the right side as it only have a headphone jack there every other port (2xUSB+Magsafe) is on the left.

On the other hand, my M1 Pro MacBook Pro don't have any problem charging on either side, not like my previous Intel.

ProZsolt··on MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max
Back then I liked the Magsafe, but the my new Macbook's Magsafe cable is still in the box. With 12+ hours of battery life I barely charge it when I use it and when I'm it is usually at my desk connected to my monitor via USB-C.

When I'm on the go I only want to bring one charger and cable for backup for every device, which is USB-C. (I don't own an iPhone)
