Pywarrior··on Black boys don’t need more discipline, they need mentors (2018)
mentors to instill discipline?
Pywarrior··on Personal and social information of 1.2B people discovered in data leak

Pywarrior··on For the first time on record, the 400 wealthiest Americans paid a lower tax rate
Do they mean a lower tax rate or total dollars? I'd like to talk about total dollars not percentages, percentages are misleading. If someone is paying 1 million in taxes and you pay 10 thousand, they pay more than you, regardless of conversion to percentages of taxable income.

Pywarrior··on GM Is Now Detroit’s Smallest Auto-Making Employer
I can't disagree with you but I'd still like to respect the definition of 'truck'. It has a specific meaning within the car world.
Pywarrior··on GM Is Now Detroit’s Smallest Auto-Making Employer
Except you didn't buy a truck, you bought a tall unibody car with a bed. It has vastly less utility than a frame based truck/suv. If you are happy that's great and ultimately that is all that matters, but to compare ridgeline to silverado or f-150 is just plain wrong, apples and oranges.

Pywarrior··on Greenland Lost 12.5B Tons of Ice in a Single Day
You're not a hypocrite. I still like to know the level of dogfooding someone practices.
Pywarrior··on Facebook has been granted patent on shadow banning
Someone else essentially patented data lineage, processing a dataset and tracking which records passed/failed a set of validations and storing a code for each validation that failed. Thanks Obama and your first to file change.

Do you drive an EV?
Pywarrior··on Elon Musk’s Boring Co. Wins Chicago Airport High-Speed Train Bid
It will be, it's just not ready for sale yet. "Currently under development as of May 2018." The company still needs revenue, so they bid projects, which is probably the best way to test new technology, I mean, other than drilling random tunnels in the desert.
Pywarrior··on Taxation of Carried Interest
It sounds like the author does not want to pay taxes. How much tax does he want to pay?
Pywarrior··on Elizabeth Holmes, Somehow, Is Trying to Start a New Company
They also promote a podcast or other recording that appears to be an hour long, there might be more info in there.
Pywarrior··on Inside Tesla’s Model 3 Factory
A key elements of successful outsourcing are defining quality standards and remediation processes in the case the supplier quality changes and fails to meet those standards. Outsourcing can often and if managed well likely lead to higher quality components. A successful automotive supply chain is deeply rooted in the division and specialization of labor in the supply chain. Partnering with Recaro is one option that would have resulted in high quality seats built to OEM spec, it would have also brought a lot of positive media, it would have allowed cross marketing between the companies, it would have allowed Tesla purchasing executives and engineers to collaborate with experts in seat engineering and manufacturing. They could have also shared all the warranty costs with Recaro or whatever supplier they chose. Using suppliers does not automatically mean lower quality. My bet is on internal Tesla disorganization and or low standards that caused the supplier relationship to fail. Recaro for reference: https://en.recaro.com/business-areas/automotive-seating.html
Pywarrior··on I’m Nat Friedman, Future CEO of GitHub. AMA
This is an important question, microsoft controlling the servers that host most open source code is not great but what they really bought was the community. If those developers move a small project no big deal, but, those same developers will never start another project on github and will of course stop recommending github to corporate clients. Github will become VSS.
Pywarrior··on US government to use facial recognition technology at Mexico border crossing
Your suggestion is farcical, both in the suggested method and size metric. Short laws would only lead to a greater degree of interpretation from fallible humans to reach a disposition.
Pywarrior··on Billions in U.S. solar projects shelved after Trump panel tariff
This is excellent, we need innovation in the US solar panel supply chain. Energy independence is tantamount with security.
Pywarrior··on Washington Post publishes dataset of 52,000 criminal homicides
It's Closed without arrest and Open/No Arrest that are most concerning. Closed by arrest indicates effort was probably spent during an investigation, the bare minimum assumption. An assumption that can not be made about the 26,505 Closed without arrest and Open/No Arrest murders.

How much would you pay for a subscription such a service?
Pywarrior··on Ask HN: How technically hard was it for Twitter to move to 280 chars?
Only a small percentage of tweets actually use 140, I would not assume that because the limit is doubled 100% of new tweets will be 240. Probably less than 5% of tweets will go beyond 140.
Pywarrior··on Man Who Refused to Decrypt Hard Drives Still in Prison After Two Years
Storing hashes of unencrypted files, would that allow FileVault to verify it was decrypted without error?
