ReptileMan··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Gemini - Alignment Drift
ReptileMan··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Still better than Anthropic. If I create someday doomsday device, its turn off code will be to sort Anthropic models by strength given only their names, without access to the internet.
ReptileMan··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Argon - first version, Bismuth - internal, Carbon - second version for the public if I had to make a wild guess.
ReptileMan··on Brazil's Flavio Bolsonaro headed to US, sources say
Bolsonaro is Trump's man, Lula is Putin's
ReptileMan··on Microsoft and others tell crypto platform not to tokenize their stocks
Because with a database row you don't risk having SEC suing you into oblivion.

Blockchain tokenization is only for high risk negative reward people.

ReptileMan··on SIMD-accelerated computer vision on a $2 microcontroller
Expecting lots of traffic to this blog post from russian and ukrainan ip-s.
ReptileMan··on The Exponential Time Hypothesis Is False [pdf]
From my reading no. Because brute forcing anything symmetrical is already O(n). What protects us is the assumption that there is not enough energy in the observable universe to brute force 2^256 key.
ReptileMan··on The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI
Not only that but there is limited number of good prompts/design decisions per employee per day.
ReptileMan··on Diamond Transistor
With women size matters. Having 0.1 carat natural stone doesn't give you automatically social status above the one with flawless 30 carat monocrystal.

There may be market for artisanaly doped synthetics by customer design or something.

ReptileMan··on US designates helium as a critical material
To be fair the Executive Branch in the last 50 years seems to look at the Congresses' laws more as "recommendations that could be ignored if we really want to" and this would have been a perfect case to do so.
ReptileMan··on Diamond Transistor
The moment it becomes useful its cost will fall down to silicone prices really fast.

Right now you can buy 100g of diamonds for low teens in $ from China. Diamonds are produced in enormous quantities as abrasives. And if you do something on large scale you become better at it.

So far we haven't invested in big monocrystals because there was not much use for them aside from jewelry and probably other small niches. The moment some R&D makes something useful out of them - they will be Jevoned into oblivion.

ReptileMan··on Diamond Transistor
>single-crystal diamond wafer

Can you hear the sound of DeBeers' execs melting down? I intend to play it as a white noise while I sleep.

ReptileMan··on Skydance offers buyouts, orders return to office
Enshittification is about company-user relationship. Not company - employee.

Return to office is just punishment for employees getting ideas above their station during the covid years.

ReptileMan··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
Not quite. USA first amendment makes winning a libel case almost impossible, especially against established media. UK is on the other end of the spectrum - there probably would be slam dunk.

So usually in the USA the smarter move is just to wait for the thing to fall off from the news cycle instead of creating news fodder every day with a trial.

ReptileMan··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
Honest politician is one that once bought stays bought. Thankfully for the world Trump is dishonest.
ReptileMan··on OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud
As much as I like Elon, if Grok was a hero shooter its concurrent steam player count will be in low hundreds.
ReptileMan··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
Diseconomies of scale.
ReptileMan··on EA is shutting down BioWare
Their last really good game was Dragon Age: Origins. It is nice that they put the studio out of its misery.
ReptileMan··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
It wont change anyone's opinion. People vote for them because they are the only serious anti-immigration party.
ReptileMan··on Ask HN: How to deal with shipping AI-written code you don't understand?
Drink and pray.
ReptileMan··on Starcraft: Ashfall
Big game hunters Terran vs 7PC zergs. Same feeling.
ReptileMan··on 8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution
Probably bad idea. People are incompetent in killing.
ReptileMan··on 8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution
Who wouldn't be opposed. It is boring. Make it guillotine with a slide and bowling pins at the end. And take bets on Polymarket whether there will be split or no - then the numbers will be reversed.

We are moving anyway towards Escape from NY/LA world. Let's at least take the good parts from it.

ReptileMan··on Websites are closing their doors to AI agents
It is good that agents can't possibly use puppeteer.
ReptileMan··on DeepSeek search and fetch – $0.75 per 1000 successful requests
I have noticed that agents become extremely creative to fulfill any non refused requests. And then instructions become more of a suggestions.
