Rooster61··on Brazil's Flavio Bolsonaro headed to US, sources say
Because Lula isn't much better. He wears the "leader of the poor" mantle well enough, but he's made plenty of money himself using his position.

That said, the Bolsonaro's lost me the second Jair made the comment about just casually culling 30k indigenous lives like it's no big deal. I'll take greed over blood

Rooster61··on Brazil's Flavio Bolsonaro headed to US, sources say
> I wouldn't be surprised if there are marines and/or mercs on the eixo monumental in November.

Unlikely methinks. I think next on Rubio's docket is Cuba. Brazil is a much harder sell dude to the sheer size and population of the country. Not to mention China would have a huge problem with it due to them having as many fingers in Brazilian pies as the US does.

Ahh man, I'd have had so much fun with this had it been released back then. The Rare/N64 era of gaming was a great time to be a kid.
Rooster61··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
> You can disagree with the tradeoff, but if you don't acknowledge it you're just doing propaganda.

The propaganda I'm seeing is coming from Google. I can't tell you how many times lately I've seen ads on TV/streaming pushing the security narrative for Play Store. Google knows what it is doing is blatantly anti-consumer and they very much want public sentiment to think it's not.

There will always be means to scam individuals through technology. Pulling stunts like this is not justified simply because it closes off one means of doing so.

Rooster61··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
You're running arch on a phone? I was unaware that was an option on mobile.
Rooster61··on Dungeon Generation in the Gnomish Mines of NetHack
Oh wow. I had no idea this was based on cellular automata. It really does give a totally different feel versus the other sections of the dungeon.
Rooster61··on What is going on with ceiling fans
It's AI. I can tell from the pixels and from having seen a lot of AI in my time.
Rooster61··on I opened cockpit door while being attacked, says pilot of Dubai-Israel flight
> They clearly didn't have this case covered.

More likely they considered it and determined it to be a remote enough chance relative to a passenger being the hijacker that keeping the door locked was the better default. A LOT of things have to happen correctly (or incorrectly depending on perspective) for a fully trained pilot to decide to and successfully attack the other pilot and take down the aircraft.

Rooster61··on I opened cockpit door while being attacked, says pilot of Dubai-Israel flight
Hijacker in cabin shoots the inside of the plane to depressurize it. Pilot has to dive to rapidly equalize pressure. Door unlocks and the plane is hijacked at gunpoint.

This is but one of myriad scenarios. "Why not just X" ignores the amount of thought that has to go into security design on aircraft.

Rooster61··on Which Diet Is Best to Lower Liver Fat and Improve Insulin Sensitivity?
> sickle cell anemia (minor trait Thalassemia)

Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia are two separate conditions (though admittedly similar in symptoms, affected part of the blood, and likely evolutionary origins). Are you saying you have both, or trying to provide some type of clarification with the parentheses? I ask because hypovolemia IS low blood volume, and you used the parentheses the same way for the latter condition.

This has very little value when everything gets prefaced with "in my opinion". Government officials should be held to a higher standard when it comes to releasing these types of statements.

Microsoft. That's the answer. Microsoft is happening over there.

Rooster61··on Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood?

You're assuming there are human eyes behind all of these accounts. With the rise of AI has also come a precipitous rise in astroturfed views.

Rooster61··on Coyote v. Acme (1990)
His voice acting in Tim & Eric regarding the Cinco line of products seems to go right along with the humor of the iconic Acme brand. I think he'd be great at this.
Rooster61··on Scientists Find Worms in Almost Every Fish in a Tuna Haul – 96% Were Infected
> "sashimi grade fish"

This term has no legal definition and is unregulated. A fish caught, cut, and thrown on a plate as sashimi could be called sashimi grade having never touched a freezer to kill off parasites.

Rooster61··on Retirement Is Dead
I've never understood the logic behind the idea of a "nest egg". Years ago, perhaps, it might not have been clear to the average person that money has to grow over time to stave off inflation, but that information has been widely available for decades and many people still don't put money into any kind of investment.

Not judging anyone. Circumstances are different for each and every person, and financial literacy isn't universal. But I am genuinely curious as to how such a large number of people that have/had careers that paid ok end up paycheck to paycheck when retirement comes around.

Rooster61··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
> I think you're optimistic about the overlap between "people who tit about with guns" and "people who absorb education".

The cavalier phrase "tit about with" is exactly the issue. People do so due to a lack of education about gun safety.

> I dread the outcome of practical safety lessons because, the moment you give a classroom guns

OP didn't mention practical lessons, and giving real guns to school children would be idiotic. You don't have to actually have a gun in your hand to learn what not to do with one should you encounter it. We have MYRIAD examples of non practical instruction (things like sex ed, chemistry [what happens if sodium is dropped in water and why?], physics [hey kids, lets visit a live nuclear reactor!]). If anything, the best way to dampen the glamor of guns instilled by media would be to make it a boring school subject.

> Make gun ownership a tedious bureaucratic procedure.

In many cases, it is. In my state, you can't hunt with a gun (or even a bow I think) without a mandatory gun safety course, and I needed a background check to buy the rifle in the first place. A background check that required a form.

Not to say there aren't loopholes, of course, and I think most Americans agree with common sense gun laws to implement more scrutiny.

Rooster61··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
> To see something in your “mind’s eye” has nothing to do with physical vision, yet the afterimage works by exhausting some of the eye’s physical cones. It’s a confusing non sequitur and totally unrelated to the subject at hand.

Which they go to the correct length to explain in the link associated with that demonstration. I found that exercise quite apt. They aren't saying "This is what non-aphants see" but rather "This is an approximation of what someone who can see images in their mind sees using a separate process so that you get an idea".

For me, the afterimage effect really DOES look similar to aspects of my own internal image perception (colors that are sort of there, but not quite; hazy quality; transparency).

Rooster61··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
One thing that I have always noticed about my own internal images (yes, I am not an aphant) is that when I am perceiving something in my mouth (such as a sore spot or tooth), my perception of it visually in my mind is wildly different than if I actually look in my mouth using a mirror. Objects look and feel much larger and more detailed in my mind than they actually are.
Rooster61··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
> Americans always fail to comprehend that outsiders judge them by how they act outwards to citizens of other countries.

Americans are not their government. Judging individuals based on the actions of their government is the type of ignorant behavior that breeds exactly the type of tribalism corrupt government officials are able to thrive in.

I find it humorous that the animal + plane combo appears to be such an outlier. I assume this is due to the models assuming the user mean plain and misspelled it in the prompt.
Rooster61··on FBI Director Kash Patel Planning a Trip to Russia
Valid, though the title on the page mentions Politico, and Reuters typically does their own write-up (which I tend to prefer) in short order after posting a stub article such as this.
Rooster61··on CD sales growth outpaced vinyl in the first half of 2026
While I'm thrilled that kids are experiencing the thrill of buying physical media, I'm not sure CD's are the best way to go. Most of my CD's from my teenage years are no longer playable (partially due to poor upkeep, but some literally from disc rot). But hey, they'll learn the same lesson in a couple of decades haha.

I've personally been buying vinyl both because of the fact I missed out on the excitement myself growing up, and because I have some records that came out decades before I was born that play like the day they were minted. They've outlasted pretty much all of my CD's.

I did not get that implication. I simply thought it was a library that contains books that have been banned from some context that happens to be in Portugal.
Rooster61··on Flock Defense "No Expectation of Privacy in Public" Is Wrong

That is just a reversed no-true-scottsman fallacy. If the poster's "hysterics" are a poor argument, please break down why rather than just calling it silly.

It is obvious that many in this community are against wholesale collection of information, public or private, as evidenced by the thousands of posts that state such reservations.
