In the article, she is quoted as saying that winnings from poker can be taxed at 60%. But I Googled it and the first few sites that I clicked on say more like 25%. What am I missing?

Having someone else around to call an ambulance for you when you're having a heart attack can have a large effect on the outcome.

Having someone else around to nag you into going to the doctor when you otherwise might not go, etc.

You're skating on legal thin ice by setting booby traps.

If the idea of someone stealing packages off of your porch pisses you off, just wait until they do that and then also sue you.

If you're a professional or part of a professional organization, this is a small hurdle to clear and most would agree that the increased security posture for the end user is worth the inconvenience/price for developers.

If you're an amateur/hobbyist/tinkerer and just want to play with kernel driver development, then you can disable the signing enforcement.

You can disable driver signing enforcement if you want to install drivers without having them signed.

Driver signing enforcement enhances the security of the OS by preventing malware from installing kernel mode drivers that would hypothetically have unlimited access to the device without the consent or knowledge of the user.

There really is no downside to this.

The DWM compositor is bad for games too. The only way to take it out of the equation is to use your GPU in exclusive mode.

I'm an escalation engineer at Microsoft, and we have been using this for many, many years to solve complex customer cases. Having it go public is a pretty big deal for us.

You do have the strongest experiences and form the strongest memories (both good and bad) when you are at your most unbalanced.

But it's also unsustainable to stay unbalanced for too long.

Deprecation is not the same thing as removal. They're not removing Paint. They are just not developing it any more. They may still leave it in the OS for years to come; maybe even indefinitely. There are a lot of deprecated programs that still ship with Windows.

Sorry I haven't gotten an opportunity to watch the video yet, so maybe the video addresses this, but if I may please ask... why would you want to render a webpage at several hundred FPS? Unless FPS is a multiple of your monitor's refresh rate, (i.e. vsync) it won't look good. You could use the extra time to do other background tasks instead of burning more CPU than you need to just to say you can do 1500 fps...

How do we know which one is the cause and which one is the effect? Or that it's not just yet another case of correlation mistaken for causation? Do more intense levels of gender inequality lead to polygamous marriage, or does polygamous marriage lead to more intense levels of gender inequality?

Even if the author was just paraphrasing/dramatizing the interviewer's comments... I could not imagine being treated like that in a job interview.

Agreed. Learned that the hard way. I have since updated the app with an exclusion specifically for explorer.exe. Later I'll scan the registry and find what the user's shell is, just to cover the rare case that the user has a custom shell.

Well, maybe. But then maybe I wouldn't have a girlfriend. And more importantly, maybe I wouldn't be reminded that sometimes it's OK to peel myself away from a video game.
