Uhhrrr··on Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production
Not really relevant to this conversation.
Uhhrrr··on Gemini 4 Carbon
There's a tier which is just, "summarize things and do grammar checks, style tweaks, and boilerplate generation". Maybe this is Lite. It's like how computing requirements for most people nowadays is "run a browser".
Uhhrrr··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
It would depend on the cases he takes. But Burisma interests were very closely tied to Ukrainian interests, which are not necessarily US interests. So it was clearly improprietary.

It is true that there were conflicts of interest for other work that Hunter did, though, such as when his father was visiting China on a diplomatic trip.

Sure, I'll say it explicitly! Government employees are supposed to avoid not only conflicts of interest, but the appearance of conflicts of interest. https://www.lawinsider.com/dictionary/appearance-of-a-confli...

If you are working for the government on relations with a particular country, and your son gets a job paying $750,000 a year working at the biggest company in that country, then you need to resign or get your son to resign.

Please let me know if you want further clarifications.

So you agree that she is a nepo baby. That is, not particularly qualified. The thing is, when you are the vice president of the United states, and as the article says, "the Obama administration’s point person on relations with Kyiv", then any reasonable person would say you should be careful about letting your children take advantage of their nepobaby status in Kiev specifically!

Regarding compensation for the position, you had said "of course he was compensated, board members are often compensated". I am pointing out that it is very unusual for them to get that much compensation, to the point where you should be suspicious.

The "similar" profile is the daughter of a guy who's the attorney for a Ukranian oligarch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Sofocleous

Directors at Exxon get about a sixth of what Hunter made: https://contracts.justia.com/companies/exxon-mobil-500/contr... So yes, it's pretty high.

It actually was unusual. He had no experience with the energy sector or Ukraine, and he was paid $65,000 per month, which is pretty high.

Uhhrrr··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
I really enjoyed The Science of Hitting, by Ted Williams. It is a testament to his obsession with all aspects of one particular compound motion. I wrote more here: https://ctd1.substack.com/p/book-review-science-of-hitting

I'm now reading Brothers Karamazov, because someone else on HN recommended it (well, that was the immediate catalyst, but I've been wanting to read a big Russian novel). There's a lot of jawing about the church which is a little boring, but I'm appreciating the way all the characters are bursting with life and feeling. And also that Dostoevsky never beats around the bush.

Uhhrrr··on Ballmer Peak
I wonder how many Wikipedia articles have XKCD comics?

Edit: I asked Opus 5.5, medium effort, and got a lame answer. Then asked it for "extra" effort, and the summary of that is:

WP->xkcd: Ballmer Peak, Geohashing, Time, a few other passing mentions

xkcd->WP: Missal of Silos, Rolle's Theorem, at least 54 other general references to WP

Uhhrrr··on Pirating the Pirates
Wow, I feel like new DLC just dropped. The first twenty has echoes of American Graffiti, and expands on the Luke-Owen-Beru relationship.
Uhhrrr··on What Sun got wrong
IIRC the writing was on the wall by 2002. The x86 hardware was finally good enough that first there was a lurch to WinNT, then Linux once people realized NT wasn't as stable or developer friendly.
Uhhrrr··on GPT-6 Astra

Uhhrrr··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
No. If OpenAI were being responsible and not criminally negligent, at the top of page 1 of the runbook would be "don't connect this to the actual Internet, even if the agent says Please."
Uhhrrr··on It's a shame what's happened to radio
Yes! Eclectic, and if you text or call, a human will often respond.
Uhhrrr··on Holding the LLM Stack in Your Head
In the first paragraph, "The goal isn't rigor, it's intuition that survives contact with real systems".
Uhhrrr··on Zuckerberg's war on whistleblowers
Yes, they reversed course after the court packing threat.
Uhhrrr··on Zuckerberg's war on whistleblowers
Before the court packing threat, they were limiting the federal government's power to regulate commerce within states. Which is a power it doesn't actually have.

Uhhrrr··on Brexit Ten Years On: The Economy
I should mention that the Remain advocate estimates of 3.6-6.0 were for a time frame of two years: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hm-treasury-analy...

For comparison, Remain advocates predicted a fall in GDP of 3.6-6.0%:

Uhhrrr··on AI didn't delete your database, you did
Looking again at the article, I see that there are about 5 paragraphs about Railway and 30 about the agent (and, again, zero reflection about their own culpability).
Uhhrrr··on Life During Class Wartime
This meta-analysis puts it at 67%: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/...

What data have you seen which doesn't support it?

Uhhrrr··on AI didn't delete your database, you did
If you look at the article, its title is, "An AI agent deleted our production database. It confessed in writing." To me this seems to be pretty clearly focusing on the AI agent. Then if you read the article, it attributes a lot of actions to the agent, and zero responsibility to the humans running the agent. It seems to be an anti-ad for the person's business.
Uhhrrr··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
The reason is clearly "signaling", because they certainly weren't furthering discussion.
Uhhrrr··on Gas Town: From Clown Show to v1.0
If you actually follow the links you posted, you will see that he didn't create a meme coin and didn't rug pull it. Someone else made the coin and set it up so he got transfer fees.
Uhhrrr··on The tech jobs bust is real. Don't blame AI (yet)
I have only ever gotten thanks and net positive points for posting archive links.
Uhhrrr··on The disturbing white paper Red Hat is trying to erase from the internet
The software is never accountable, so the human running it is always accountable.

Ok, I went and looked at his last 50 or so tweets. I didn't see anything that supports what you are saying.
