Vaslo··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
Wow you sound like an angry child when you get proven wrong. When presented with evidence, you gave the typical leftist cult “NAZI! FACIST! PEDO!” answer, just as I thought.

I wish we could put Trump in for a third term, just to watch more leftist rage.

So what happened here? Please tell me you aren’t this naive

MA: 36% Republican, 0 seats CT: 42% Republican, 0 seats ME: 46% Republican, 0 seats NM: 46% Republican, 0 seats NH: 48% Republican, 0 seats RI: 42% Republican, 0 seats VT: 32% Republican, 0 seats HI: 38% Republican, 0 seats DE: 42% Republican, 0 seats

Republicans are merely trying to get back the vote they’ve lost to decades of gerrymandering:

MA: 36% Republican, 0 seats CT: 42% Republican, 0 seats ME: 46% Republican, 0 seats NM: 46% Republican, 0 seats NH: 48% Republican, 0 seats RI: 42% Republican, 0 seats VT: 32% Republican, 0 seats HI: 38% Republican, 0 seats DE: 42% Republican, 0 seats

A state with 48% Republican has no republican representation in the house? Can’t wait to hear your leftist nonsense circumlocution around this one lolol

So the left never does this? This isn’t Reddit - go back there if you want to be a hypocrite.
Vaslo··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
I answered a number of questions on there. Some non-native English speaker started going my answers and making language editing suggestions. The grammar was fine. I refused all the changes because they were at best basically the same or at worst incorrect. I refused maybe 4-5. The next day the guy got on and had done a bunch more then went to some of my answers and made hostile comments about my answers on simple things like Pandas for Python.

That was that for that site.

Are you implying that only the right does this?
Vaslo··on I don't understand quantum physics (2018)
I somehow graduated from the upper class QM and Thermodynamics courses with A or A-. I think the average grade on exams was between 30-40 out of 100. I saw our TA at the bar and he gave me the most reassurance I’ve ever had - he said almost no one taking the intro courses really understands it the first time through, and neither did he.

It was also weird to know that then as it still is today, the only wave function that can be solved is single atom hydrogen.

Vaslo··on Bringing uv and ty together
I tend to do all my own uv stuff but let AI handle ty for me. I don’t have many issues that way.
Vaslo··on Docker is weird
Nothing weird about it - extremely logical and it’s the gateway to so many great self hosted apps.

When it comes to the author calling Docker weird, after looking at some of their other postings, something about glass houses comes to mind.

Vaslo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
In big corps, there are endless projects that claim to deliver more than the “weighted average cost of capital” which is basically what we can do with our parked cash in the market (why invest in a low return project if you can make more money in the market?).

Even then we have lots of projects that claim to deliver incremental net profit. Why not just do them all?

The obvious answer is limited resources and risk. Those numbers are never real, and there are lots of costs you don’t think of.

Less obviously is gross margin %. If you begin to dilute your high margins just to make extra cash, your % dilutes and this is a bad thing. Your money should be working toward the most profitable thing per dollar invested.

Also, focus. If OpenAI has to focus on two rabbits, they won’t catch either (or 100 rabbits in this case). They have 1 thing they should be focused on, and all bets should lead to that road.

One exception is that you also need to invest in projects that aren’t profitable, like safety and regulation, etc. But I could still build a business case of how much profit we’d lose if a bunch of consumers got sick or hurt off x if I want to complete the exercise.

Vaslo··on Tell HN: I unknowingly broke the PHP RCE embargo. I am sorry.
This comment will get buried but you are right. Same biases and everything.
Vaslo··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
How is asking the cleaning company to run the dishwasher and take out the garbage “bending over backwards?” I’ve paid the fee to do the minimum amount of cleaning necessary.
Vaslo··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
If I’m paying you 250 bucks, then why do I have to do your cleaning company’s job? This is nonsensical self-checkout-like behavior.
Vaslo··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
What did they do that was racist?
Vaslo··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
What’s that ridiculous cleaning fee for then?
Vaslo··on Putting Linux on my RTX spark laptop because I don't have a Microsoft account
May always be behind with how fast things change, you think?
Vaslo··on What was a Token Ring network?
I feel like I learned about this in every tech class I’d taken since the 90s but never once saw one in effect.

Vaslo··on The insider trading you're allowed to do
For the top execs of public companies you can see what their holdings and transactions are anytime you like. You can also easily see when they haven’t sold. Any advantage here is already mined by people that price stocks for a living unfortunately.

Now if you could see the buying and selling for the next level below them somehow, that would be a great advantage (and also very illegal).

Vaslo··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
Eye opening video about how art over science dentistry can be:

Vaslo··on Apple HomeView
Wonder if there will be a way to hack it in the future with Home Assistant or some Linux distro to get HA onto it.
Vaslo··on Passkeys are a trap
The fear of passkeys is silly. It is the typical HN “Very Good is the enemy of Perfect”
Vaslo··on So, you’d like to sell your print issues of The Onion?
Hard to tell if the onion is trying to be funny?
Vaslo··on NYC's "Click to Cancel" rule is now in effect
It’s incredible how much virtue signaling this is. He has no power to enforce it - I’d just ignore him anyway, nothing he can do about it.
Vaslo··on The clitoris is getting the attention it deserves

Vaslo··on Show HN: Proton Drive for Linux
Yes - because most software will be developed this way in the coming years.
Vaslo··on Show HN: The rarest tech books and docs you've probably never read
Sorry, but if you are developer, slop is coming for job.
Vaslo··on A statement on the Tor Project's relationship with Mullvad
TOR shouldn’t get involved here other than denouncing it if they disagree. Not sure if that’s what you mean.
Vaslo··on Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem "NAVI" Pillay
I agree with you.
Vaslo··on Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem Pillay
