__john··on Show HN: I made a simple platform to buy/sell side projects
I think you meant microacquire.com , you forgot the 'c'. The domain you're linking to is hella scammy.
__john··on Notice of termination of Twitter merger agreement
I think there is a 1A aspect to his involvement with Twitter.
__john··on How bad could the next recession be?
> why it's important for a currency to be inflationary

Money is created when people take out loans right? (like for a home or car, or when a buisness takes out a loan for capex)

So if the population contracts (i.e. the boomers start dying) doesn't that mean there should a contraction of money supply since fewer people will exist to take out loans?

__john··on How bad could the next recession be?
Wasn't Saylor encouraging people to take out loans against their home to buy BTC?
__john··on How bad could the next recession be?
Consider one aspect of "stimulus" is that a bunch of people suddenly no longer had to worry about rent. All that money they would have gone to rent instead when to Dogecoin and GME.
__john··on OpenAI
Not so impractical, don't most undergrads write at a GPT3 level anyways? =)
__john··on Ask HN: How do I stop being used?
This 100%, used to have the same problem as OP. They want you to work on their startup start talking about compensation, that'll sort things out real quick.
__john··on The Fed's $2.7T mortgage problem
Everyone knows inflation is because of the stimmies.

__john··on When buying the dip doesn’t work: An analysis of the dot-com crash
The technical expression is "buy the dip, short the rip".
__john··on The bottom is dropping out of Netflix
I think Netflix should do a web3 option for their subscription model, issue nfts that are just "generic subscriptions", family can transfer around the nft, there could be a market for netflix subscriptions, it could be neat.
__john··on Car Models with the Most DUIs
Hypothesis: Young people drive these cars, young people get DUIs (87% are age 44 and under).

__john··on The history of the end of poverty has just begun
I wonder how many businesses could survive doubling the federal income tax?
__john··on Ask HN: What are considered the goto papers for methane emissions for cows?
Good catch.
__john··on Stop spending so much time being trolled by billionaire corps
Doesn't Rogan get more views than most cable news anchors?
__john··on This real estate bubble won't pop
My mistake, I linked the wrong thing. Here is the right one https://politicalcalculations.blogspot.com/2021/01/the-price... .
__john··on This real estate bubble won't pop
IIRC 15% for Campbells Tomato Soup.

__john··on Brain-cleaning sleeping cap gets US Army funding
Poor time management, there's a lot of "hurry up and wait" and "if you're not 15 mins early, you're not on time" in the military.
__john··on An appeal for an objective, open, transparent debate re: the origin of Covid-19
I don't understand your comment,

> Well, now we see that China's mistake and blackout are indeed less damaging then US' mistake and blackout...

What mistake and blackout did the US make?

__john··on Australia media can be sued for social media comments, court rules
I wonder if they're using the current crisis to push through an agenda?

I couldn't find any information on which Australian states are in lock down but I'd bet the Northern Territory isn't one of them. Relatively few people live there. Do you see where this is going?

__john··on Activision Blizzard Hires Notorious Union-Busting Firm WilmerHale
> Blizzrd hasn't had a significant original release in 10+ years

A quick search tells me that Overwatch has 6M players, which seems significant.

__john··on How Long Can We Live?
I know you're getting down voted for not providing evidence / not being scientific, but I've always wondered how that number made its way into the Bible. Were people really living to 120 back when Genesis was written 3500 years ago?
__john··on SEC Director of Enforcement resigns after a few days on the job
For some reason your Wikipedia link doesn't include the period at the end.

edit: maybe a bug with the way HN handles the text to HTML.

__john··on Myanmar's satellite held by Japan on space station due to spying concern
I think it will be the thing he is most remembered for.
__john··on National Strategy for Planetary Protection
From the article

> Planetary protection against "backward contamination" ensures that the Earth's biosphere is not adversely affected by the return of potentially hazardous microbes.

Interesting implications no?

Here's a direct link to the PDF.

__john··on Can too many brainy people be a dangerous thing?
> Meanwhile, everything interesting/challenging I might have liked to work on is already being worked on by someone else, who is probably doing a better job than I would have

I noticed that reading "recommended content" (like from google news) always gets me to thinking like this, but remember 90% of startups fail[1].

__john··on You can no longer reinstall CS 2 or 3 even if you have the original disks
What if you have assets that can only be opened by that version of the software? What if these assets are worth more to you than the cost of the software?
__john··on You can no longer reinstall CS 2 or 3 even if you have the original disks
Seems like a case for piracy.
__john··on Smart Cow Collars
I don't mean to be a pessimist but I believe the cows will get the collars hung on whatever they can and either tear them off, or if they're not strong enough; be stuck until they are found or die.

Edit, I suppose it could work on a dairy where a human works with the animal every day. I would be curious to know how often these things break.
