__m··on Proton CEO Andy Yen: "This will be the last year that we hire engineers."
Unfortunately that’s the reality we live in. How do you compete if your competition is willing to move fast and break things? I guess the only option is to move to a provider that doesn’t disclose it’s ai use. Am i too pessimistic?
__m··on SpaceX no longer needs NASA, and that's a problem for America's space agency
The same starship that was supposed to land on mars in 2022? I can see why they are hesitant to rely on that
__m··on Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS
Why? I like the presentation.
__m··on The Milwaukee Brewers win the first World Series title in franchise history
I was hoping this was about brewing beer.
__m··on OpenLDK: Bringing the Java World into Common Lisp
It would be architecture dependent
__m··on Proton to 'Re-Interview' Staff About AI to See Who Gets to Keep Their Job
I don't think it's a mistreatment. I think it's fair that companies and employees have both expectations and if those no longer align they should part ways.
__m··on Proton to 'Re-Interview' Staff About AI to See Who Gets to Keep Their Job
Depends on where you live, in switzerland it’s comparatively easier than in other European countries, so if they just wanted to lay off people they could
__m··on Thiel's leaked lectures on the end of the world
Like religion you need a threat to gain power and justify your superiority.
__m··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
On iPhones?
__m··on No signs of AI payoff outside the tech sector
Like the internet bubble, that’s fine, openai and anthropic don’t have to survive for ai to be successful
__m··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
I don’t think that hackers would agree to be locked out of a system, or do you mean they want to be locked out as a challenge? In any case you don’t get to choose which OS gets installed, so the parent’s opinion is hypothetical.
__m··on Musk Giving Tops $445M in Midterm Election Push for GOP
you can use words like action committee and lobbying and make those legal, but it boils down to corruption, where the government acts in the interest of companies first and the people second.
__m··on Xbox wants you to pay 24 to 40 cents per hour to stream games you bought
Isn’t that the appeal though, that you get AAA graphics on a phone? At least that’s why i used streaming.
__m··on Mitos editor is a fork of Helix
It’s just more convenient to stay in the terminal where I already do a lot of other things. Switching between guis is more of a hassle, since they try to support both keyboard and mouse but often not equally well
__m··on Mitos editor is a fork of Helix
The most recent activity in that PR comes from mitos.
__m··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
I’m pretty sure it’s an American company. They have or had employees in Ukraine though, but that doesn’t make them an eastern european company.
__m··on Tesla 'Cannot Guarantee' Roadster Reservation Holders Will Ever Get a Car
well, people are waiting since 9 years, i think that's unique
__m··on The game industry is broken – can we fix it?
If you look at a game like elden ring I’m not surprised that hundreds of people were involved. It would be sad if we wouldn’t have games like that.
__m··on Show HN: Gemini 4 Argon plays StarCraft
Better. I don’t see the human bots in the v0.2 bench but in v0.1 they didn’t beat stardust, a human written bot, which in turn doesn’t beat the best human players. In any case this is more of a coding benchmark, to beat the best human player you would probably need to train a neural net like Deepmind tried, not some comparably primitive bot.
__m··on Tesla Roadster
This would be a step backwards for jet packs, which can currently do minutes of flight, using a tank of high pressure air would reduce that back to seconds
__m··on Tesla Roadster
No, it’s invitation only, i don’t think they intend to sell it. It’s probably also for weight reduction to not use a real driver. I guess it’s stripped down to the minimum, because why would you put a 300 mile battery in a car that isn’t even road legal? The main purpose is marketing and they are masters in that
__m··on Tesla Roadster
It can also create terrible accidents by blowing up in a collision
__m··on Tesla Roadster
They said there was no real driver in it for safety reasons
__m··on Tesla Roadster
Probably more a liability to have a high pressure vessel near a collision
__m··on Tesla Roadster
Well it didn’t have a driver and you can’t see the size of the battery, impressive nonetheless and in the end it’s not like it matters since it has no practical application outside a circus (the flying)
__m··on Grace Hopper Celebration Cancelled
I think she’s also well known outside the US, at least if you studied cs
__m··on Tesla Roadster
But where would you (be allowed to) use that and risk wrecking your car and life? They weren’t confident to put a person in either. I guess it’s for shows only, the reservation page says invitation only. It’s definitely impressive but it will probably stay a marketing tool.
__m··on Tesla Roadster
Cool marketing gimmick. The suction is cool though, let’s see how it will do on the track. Basically your own Brabham BT46, very cool
__m··on Dutch tax authorities cancel Microsoft 365 cloud rollout and turn to open source
Compared to Linux that seems trivial
__m··on Recreational Programming
Yeah, i too am sad that my hobby is no longer the biggest part of my job, it’s still fun to create things though.
