_zen··on PaintCode 2
This seems like a cool way to learn Objective-C and iOS development.

Can I make an entire working app using this, or is it only meant for prototyping/mock-ups?

_zen··on Google Classroom
EdTech is booming, and there is a lot of money to be made. Google Apps for Business is booming. Google Apps for Education, likewise, will boom in the same way.

If you seriously think Google Drive or a Google Docs is going anywhere because your precious Google Reader disappeared, you're nuts.

_zen··on VC portfolio page changes
It looks like it's just scraping the portfolio pages of most of these, and most portfolio directories list nothing more than a company's name and website.

That said, doesn't AngelList or CrunchBase have something like this already? (or at least an API to extract more information from)

_zen··on Poll: How do you manage your passwords?
I do the exact same, but with the added step of adding the backup passwords for Google/Dropbox to the extra text fields you can add in 1Password. (For the very rare case of "I lost my phone/ipad, am not home for the physical backup codes, but still have access to 1Password on my Macbook")
_zen··on New dev release of Sublime Text 3
We're still years away from HTML5 applications reaching the performance of native desktop applications.

Atom.io is too slow for most Sublime users, especially on hardware that is not bleeding-edge.

_zen··on Chromebooks on Fire
Note to self, sensationalized media to ignore in the future: recode.net
_zen··on A Chinese copy of GitHub.com
Wow, that is a really nice site. I'm looking at it in my iPad Mini Retina and it's way better looking than Stackoverflow.
_zen··on It's Different for Girls
> The reason women complain about being 'discriminated' is because it works so well for them

Probably the most bullshit thing I will have read this month.

_zen··on Global heatmap of cycling and running routes
Okay, this is just hardcore.

_zen··on Show HN: Vhoto – Find photos in your videos
That may work for 1 video and a few stills. Now try hundreds of videos and stills. I sure as hell don't want to wade through that.
_zen··on Burying the URL
From an IT support perspective, it could become a minor annoyance. It's not uncommon for support to request the URL or have the user manipulate it in some way. Now they have to instruct the user to click on a button to reveal the URL, but only after identifying if the user is using a browser or the version of Chrome that hides the URL. (And if IT is ignorant of this new feature, they are going to be very confused when the user is arguing with them "There is no URL in the box!")
_zen··on Vagrant Feature Preview: Docker-Based Development Environments
I did know about and tried vagrant-lxc, and even the per 3rd party vagrant-docker implementations. None of them worked well or provided the right amount of ease of use and features that Vagrant and Docker provided.
_zen··on Introducing the new PHP on Heroku
Passionate language like that is used all over the industry, especially from start ups. So why is it a big deal if it's used to describe PHP?

If the Ruby on Rails blog made a post saying "Rubyists are makers at heart." would you complain?

_zen··on Square Pickup
> your core business model isn't that hot

You can't just make a statement like that and play it off. Citations? I see Square devices used everywhere in retail, and no, I don't live in San Francisco or the Bay Area.

_zen··on Introducing the new PHP on Heroku
Don't read it so literally. They're just saying it's the newest PHP tech at Heroku. New as in "hip", "latest", "trendy", etc..
_zen··on Introducing the new PHP on Heroku
Why are you getting your jimmies rustled for no reason? Stop getting offended over nothing. They didn't say "PHP developers are makers at heart. No one else is."
_zen··on Vagrant Feature Preview: Docker-Based Development Environments
I have wanted this since Docker was announced last year. In my eyes the biggest gain of Docker for development over VMs is boot time. Now I can turn all my Vagrant VBoxes to Docker containers, and work much faster. Thanks to all the maintainers for the hard work.
_zen··on Google acknowledges XKCD #1361
He was being sarcastic.
_zen··on Show HN: Turn sketches on paper into app prototypes
No offense, but did you bother to research Marvel _at all_ before asking this question? popapp app's landing page makes it very clear the workflow is physical paper -> photo -> storyboard, whereas Marvel's landing page is very clear their workflow is PSD/etc. -> storyboard.

Sometimes I feel like HN asks "how is this different from X app" without doing any research, just to be lazy.

_zen··on Introducing Famo.us-Angular
I know Famo.us is pitched at app building, but how about websites? Would Famo.us-Angular be worth it for making a landing page with cool animations, or should I just stick with the simpler animate.css because it's good enough?
_zen··on Sweden: The New Laboratory for a Six-Hour Work Day
Yea, but are you changing the world like Silicon Valley start-ups are? /sarcasm
_zen··on The latest chapter for the self-driving car: mastering city street driving
I think the coolest thing about self-driving cars is they can create a mesh network with one another. If I'm driving to work and a traffic accident occurs 2 miles ahead on my route, with multiple self-driving cars present at the accident, those cars can share traffic information with all self-driving cars in the area. My car will then plan an alternative route around the accident before I've even seen it.

Communication would be encrypted of course to prevent tampering.

_zen··on The latest chapter for the self-driving car: mastering city street driving
Apples to oranges.

No car passengers have ever died because a cyclist hit them.

_zen··on Classy: Cleaner class-based controllers for AngularJS
Search Twitter, /r/programming, HN, Stackoverflow, or Google for the Github project and read opinions. Works 95% of the time. (Also bookmark this thread and come back to it in a few days)
_zen··on Marvel Comics API
They never said it was open, so I don't see the problem, unless you readily associate "API" with "open".
_zen··on Sherpas, Death, and Anger on Everest
Comparing rafting to climbing Mount Everest is unreasonable.
_zen··on Ask HN: What VOIP provider do you use for your startup?
Looks nice, although it's in beta. How much is it compared to say, Grasshopper.com?
_zen··on Show HN: Tic-tac-toe, with a multiplayer twist
Collaborative gaming has a lot of promise, but so far it's been implemented poorly.

You need to allow gamers to create small teams, and allow them to talk with one another to discuss strategy. Then they decide on a move.

Someone make chess using the above.

_zen··on A Non-Techie Tries to Build a Tech Company
She's an NY Times columnist writing about her start up experiences. She only has one start up, so it's the one she talks about in all her blog posts.
_zen··on Sketch 3 released
Do Pixelmator and Sketch 3 complement one another? I already use Pixelmator and love it.

Unless mistaken, Pixelmator is like Adobe Photoshop and Sketch 3 is like Adobe Illustrator?
