abirch··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
How can you trust it? Like how does it resolve if I got my Weird Al toupee from eBay? Is it if someone shipped me a box? Smart contracts make sense when there's a large, public event.
abirch··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
Exactly and why wouldn't the thieves publish to the official VS Code or Open VSX market places?
abirch··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
According to Felix from Anthropic: no [1]. This didn't seem to impact the official VS Code repository, etc.

Is there any Crypto that can be used for refunds due to fraud? That's my major concern. Until then I'll be stuck with Visa/Mastercard/Paypal etc.

1shooner posted this link: https://www.binance.com/en/square/post/10-30-2026-claude-cod... this was not the official extension. Supply Chain is very important, please only use official builds. From the link above:

A malicious version of Anthropic’s Claude Code VS Code extension, version 2.1.313, was published to the Open VSX registry on Oct. 30. According to ChainCatcher, security researcher Paul McCarty, known as 6mile, described the finding in a post on the OpenSource Malware blog. Researchers confirmed the analyzed Open VSX release was malicious and submitted a threat report about the same version on Microsoft’s VS Code Marketplace as a precaution.

abirch··on Why are good developers so wary of agentic development?
Gary Tan has said markdown is code. Personally I see my job as establishing the architecture, creating tests, lint rules, etc. for my agents. Monitor the code, but if there's an issue create a new agent that monitors performance, etc.
abirch··on Early progress on accelerating drug development with Claude
tldr; No sane drug professionals would have designed a relatively simple compound (144 Atomic Mass) as a Multiple Sclerosis drug

I think human review may screw things up. If you look at dimethyl fumarate[1], no card carrying medicinal chemist would have taken this serious. No pharma exec would have risked 100s of millions of dollars for clinical research trials.

  - 1950s people notices that a wood polish cleared psoriasis. Topical formulation worked.
  - 1990s an oral formulation was created.
  - 2000s people noticed people treated for psoriasis that had MS, had fewer MS symptoms while taking this molecule.
  - 2017 dimethyl fumerate is approved for MS.

abirch··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
Income isn't wealth. Like you could tax Sergei Brin 1,000,000% of his annual salary and he'd be fine (he earns 1 dollar a year).
abirch··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
There are two versions of wealth taxes for nonliving people that make a lot of sense:

   1) Endowments, Trusts, and nonprofits
   2) The Estate Tax

I have loved D3 for more than a decade but I'd never recommend it to a client because maintenance requires a large learning curve. Not any more, ${YourAIAgent} + D3 is awesome.

abirch··on The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening
LLMs don't need to focus on the business. They can make the ideal software for you. Who cares if it's not the perfect software for me? I can have my LLM do that. Especially if there's an open source base for me to start.
abirch··on Yes, and
Thank you for writing this article.

  1. my ignorance is massive so don't bet on my predictions. There's so much FUD. This is like the industrial revolution but on steroids.
  2. I see the moat around software decreasing quickly. Therefore, I'm going to project that there will be fewer coders in software only companies (such as Adobe, SAS, or Intuit)
  3. It will be easier to support software so I see the need for more technical entrepreneurs. Software is going to be an amenity with services, hardware, or support. The code itself isn't going to be valuable like its current form.
  4. I would project there will be more programmers in the future, but not pure programmers. More like the 1970s programmers who had other professions but would create their own programs.
