adventist··on Majority of the world's richest people are self-made, says new report
This is great to hear!
adventist··on Cloudflare TV
What are those concerns?
adventist··on Cloudflare TV
Thank you for the work you guys do! This is nice.
adventist··on Google Fonts Analytics
Thank you for your service!
adventist··on Will Spotify Ruin Podcasting?
I think it has to do with the RSS standard. As a podcaster ("Eyes of Reason") I like Spotify because I can see things like the age, gender and location of where my listeners are coming from as well as see things like how long they listened. If we can update the RSS Protocol to have these features then it would prevent this sort of Payola and agglomeration from happening.
adventist··on The new Microsoft Edge is out of preview
Yeah it would be interesting to hear of the feature that Edge could not support.
adventist··on Google Brass Set 2023 as Deadline to Beat Amazon, Microsoft in Cloud
You're correct! I've never thought about that before but when they killed the RSS reader it really left a bad taste in my mouth. Now that I _do_ have the ability to make decisions at the company now, the bad taste did transfer over.
adventist··on IRS budget cuts cost $34.3B in lost revenue from big business
I'm against people living off of food stamps also, and if there is a subsidy out there for the taking, then i'm going to take it. I agree that government should not be involved in either of those things, but promoting certain kinds of businesses might be worth the subsidy for some people.
adventist··on Twitter was down
Really not a good look.
adventist··on YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki addresses hate speech controversy
I would like to see evidence of that. Crowder's output towards that guy doesn't even seem comparable relative to the amount of other stuff he produces.
adventist··on YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki addresses hate speech controversy
He calls himself "gaywonk" I don't think calling him that is homophobic. I don't really know where that talking point comes from either.
adventist··on Powerless investors vote overwhelmingly to oust Mark Zuckerberg as chairman
You hit the nail on the head there. Many people don't care about ethical situations like this as long as they are getting paid. Its not that its wrong, its just that it may not be ideal if we want a society that works for all people. But to be fair, Wisconsin and Silicon Valley have different value systems.
adventist··on SAT to Add ‘Adversity Score’ That Rates Students’ Hardships
Dude, I can totally see this heading that way. It sets up a bad precedent.
adventist··on California jury says Bayer must pay $2B to couple in Roundup cancer trial
I thought both sides get to pick who is on the Jury?
adventist··on 30th Anniversary of the World Wide Web [video]
Hahah. my bad.
adventist··on Facebook, Instagram go down around the world in an apparent outage
Totally agree.
adventist··on Canada grounds Boeing 737 Max 8
Trump gave into the pressure: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/13/business/canada-737-max.h...
adventist··on 30th Anniversary of the World Wide Web [video]
Happy Birthday Internet!
adventist··on Nasa Happily Reports the Earth Is Greener
I like how America didn't spend billions of dollars for them to do this. Kudos.
adventist··on Why can’t a bot tick the 'I'm not a robot' box?
biopatriarchy? Thats a new one for me today!
adventist··on New pill can deliver insulin
As a TYPE 1 Diabetic. All I can say is AMEN!
adventist··on Microsoft Releases 125M Building Footprints in the US as Open Data
Exactly. I would assume that the higher the population, the more buildings present. Just because you have a lot of land doesn't mean you have a lot of buildings.
adventist··on How a domain registrar can kill your business
Wasn't their fault. Their users deserve to know exactly what happened. I value transparency.
adventist··on We Open Source Everything
Software isn't a brick though, it is changing and updating and is a brick that has to be maintained. When you put software bricks together you get a construction that is more powerful than the sum of its parts. It is something inherently valuable in and of itself.
adventist··on The IRS collects data on Coinbase account holders
I agree, this isn't capitalism but more like crony capitalism or better yet -- corporatism. Government should not pick winners or losers, much less requiring them.
adventist··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2018)
Is there an email address for the hiring manager in LA?
adventist··on How Job Listing Language Could Be Adding to Silicon Valley’s Gender Divide
I could not agree more. This is advancing the idea that on the whole, men and women are different and thus "gender-neutral" language is just a different way of exposing the same fundamental truth. Much less divisive but the same underlying point.
adventist··on Advanced Denanonymization through Strava
Google and Apple and other map providers scrub some of their data by request of the government. Will the government do something similar here? Kudos to whomever found out that they could identify military stuff through this.
adventist··on Spotify hit with $1.6B copyright lawsuit
I take it that "discovery" is the process of communicating with the people who are suing providing the raw data and facts as to their basis for suing. This could be a giant spreadsheet of the songs that were sold and what was paid on it.
adventist··on EFF, ACLU Sue Over Warrantless Phone, Laptop Searches at U.S. Border
It would seem to me that the Federal Government is in charge of the border, and that until you are actually in the United States, you have no reasonable expectation of the Bill of Rights. There are many things that need to get checked at the border. Maybe they could just have a judge there to stamp each request as it goes through.
