aimonster2··on A Prefrontal Cortex-Inspired Architecture for Planning in Large Language Models
I've only been talking about this for 3 years. I'm glad someone finally decided to make a paper out of it.
aimonster2··on We could have a superintelligence in months. 1% catastrophic risk is too large
Yes, but you still don't have the front of the brain yet. that's the key.
aimonster2··on Cheap Mortgages Deter Workers from Relocating for $250k Jobs
I'm sweating moving for just this reason. I do have some experience at landlording in one of the battleground states--tenant overfriendly--so I guess in this landlord friendly state I can do it, but I'm sure J. random manager isn't going to want to do that.
aimonster2··on [dead]
3Blue1Brown again presents a spectacular and apprehendable survey of at least the initial concepts involved in understanding how GPTs work. His visual description of embedding vectors is top notch.
aimonster2··on ColorForth Primer – Chuck Moore
Has anyone ever successfully coded in this language? I've tried. Lord knows I've tried.
aimonster2··on You break it, you run away and hope somebody else fixes it
I'll be gone before they find out it's wrong.
aimonster2··on Sam Altman is trying to convince Hollywood that Sora won't destroy Hollywood
April fools?
aimonster2··on LLaMA now goes faster on CPUs
Posted too early.
aimonster2··on Engineers find a new way to convert carbon dioxide into useful products
Sure. Put it in a greenhouse and make food! Like I said to another thread, just use CaO->CaCO3 then go backwards CaCO3->CaO at the point that you're using it as long as the heating doesn't adversely effect the greenhouse environment.
aimonster2··on FAQ on the xz-utils backdoor
So wait, if I did a find / -n 'liblzma*' and saw 5.4, I'm good? This is only 5.6 and 5.6.1, right?
aimonster2··on Antimatter Propulsion [pdf]
Antimatter moves mass not space. Its a no-go because of all of the issues--time dilation? You need to move space, but we still haven't found a way to fully create negative energy.
aimonster2··on NIST: Personal Identity Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors
You don't use your PIV anywhere because you don't want your creds--certs, etc--to be swiped. You use it for facility access and PKI.
aimonster2··on Why ADHD Adults Procrastinate
Turns out that the striatum has two areas that are over-connected to it. One deals with immediate external information, and the other, the default mode network, is in operation when no other interesting stimulus is available--daydreaming? Why do they procrastinate? Both of those areas are overconnected compared to the future weighing area in the prefrontal cortex. Simple as.
aimonster2··on Lone orca killed great white shark in 2 minutes
Nature's version of 'Watch me stick my head in this alligator's mouth'
aimonster2··on Boots CEO says his 5-day office return will create a 'fun' workplace
There are times that I wish I was in the office, and those times are crunch time. That's it. Sitting and trying to look productive during the build up phases sucks and would be better done at home.
aimonster2··on Bitcoin Had a Flash Crash
Bitcoin behaved like bitcoin. Film at 11.
aimonster2··on Specialists Do Better Than Generalists. But Deep Generalists Do Even Better
So basically, Masters Degree collectors.
aimonster2··on Engineers Discover Novel Method to Identify AI-Generated Text
It's the hands. Look at the fingers.
aimonster2··on Swept away: $500k sand dune built to protect US homes disappears in days
Which will be even more of an environmental tragedy than just letting them have a hard seawall.
aimonster2··on Swept away: $500k sand dune built to protect US homes disappears in days
I really despise the EPA. They have moved beyond their original charter of protecting the environment to protecting the property of some rich people at the expense of others--including poor people. I bet there's places in Massachussets that has similar properties but are the 'right kind' of rich people so they get variances. And by right kind, I mean people who have generational wealth and not just wealth that was earned by years of hard work like most shore town home owners.
aimonster2··on Swept away: $500k sand dune built to protect US homes disappears in days
Welcome to the eastern seaboard. Where I grew up, they use jettys--actually groins--to try and stop the sand from naturally migrating south so the army corps of engineering has to come out every few years and dredge.
aimonster2··on The Forty-Year Programmer (2022)
You'd think that GPT-4 would do a bang up job of translating languages. I know that's not as fun as procedurally attempting to do the conversion :)
aimonster2··on Overcoming LLM Hallucinations Using Retrieval Augmented Generation
So what do you do when you want hallucinations? Meta language in the prompt?
aimonster2··on Billionaires are building bunkers and assembling fortresses
The security personnel--and family--are provided for, so they cooperate in getting their customers to their vaults. Helicopter to private jet, I'm suspecting is the way to get to your New Zealand bunker.
aimonster2··on Building a Machine Learning Rig
2x3090s run 70B at 4bit pretty well. Dolphin does great at least for chat. Very coherent.
aimonster2··on White House urges developers to avoid C and C++, use 'memory-safe' languages
Perhaps maybe do better with software engineering instead of depending on a language that was either written in c or assembler anyways?
aimonster2··on Can confirm a current Broadcom VMware customer went from $8M renewal to $100M
This makes me terrified to use Broadcom owned products going forward.
aimonster2··on An Apple II emulator. On a 6809 Coco3
I could have used this 36 years ago :)
aimonster2··on The Oxygen Bottleneck: Astronomers Find New Problem for Alien Civilizations
Trees would have probably adapted to high levels of oxygen. They'd still find fire based fertility(scrub pine) useful, but would probably have a different composition of woody stem material to slow down combustion and allow other organisms to burn.
aimonster2··on Why there are no software engineering jobs anymore [video]
There are no jobs right now because there is no free money. The big tech companies put bodies in seats based off of access to free money. Now that it has dried up, they are shrinking the market. Simple as.
