al_chemist··on IPFS Support in Brave
It starts with title "We need more than deplatforming" which means "deplatforming is good, but it's not enough".

noun: deplatforming; noun: de-platforming

the action or practice of preventing someone holding views regarded as unacceptable or offensive from contributing to a forum or debate, especially by blocking them on a particular website.
It continues with "Changing these dangerous dynamics requires more than just the temporary silencing or permanent removal of bad actors from social media platforms."

Blocking, silencing and removal does suppress speech.

al_chemist··on Testosterone levels show steady decrease among young US men
I doubt that many young people do "high protein / low carb" diet. It's hard to avoid carbs by mistake, especially with young people food like fries, pizza and beer.

"Low carb" diet does not lower your testosterone. "High protein" diet does [1], because proteins will bond with testosterone. Increased magnesium will prevent that [2].

"High fat / low carb" diet will increase your testosterone due to increased dietary fat consumption.

al_chemist··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump
> #KillAllWhatever should be banned as well in my book, I'm not defending it.

Thank you.

> It is, in the context of the events from the past few weeks

If something is "very precise" in context, then it is not precise. If we have to interpret words, then we have multiple interpretations and everybody can have their own truth. You can't say something is "a very precise call to violence" because of some people may interpret it their way.

His tweet (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/13469127807005777...) is very precise. "I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence!"

al_chemist··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump
> Calling thousands of supporters to go to the capitol and telling them "you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong." is a very precise call to violence.

"Kill them", "Attack them", "Burn down that building" is a very precise call to violence. "You have to be strong" is not. "You have to show strength" is not.

#KillAllMen on the other hand is a very precise call to violence, and yet nobody cares about banning that on social media.

al_chemist··on Ask HN: What happened to the law of supply and demand?
Stability of price is good for company, because:

a) middle managers can just do (price x amount of sold items)

b) if price goes down in time then some customers will wait indefinitely for better price

c) good publicity if your item is sold cheaper than competition

d) changing price can be seen as "our product is worth less than we expected"

al_chemist··on Woman makes $420k by buying insurance on flights she predicted would get delayed
Insurance is marketed as opposite of gambling, which is brilliant. Psychology says that people would rather not lose $10 than win $10 so reframing it as "protection from loss" is great move.
al_chemist··on GitHub is working on renaming default branch from “master”
While we're at it, isn't the `git` word offensive? I mean, based on https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/git git means foolish or worthless person! It's not acceptable to call any person worthless! Please change this name.
al_chemist··on Ask HN: Why do we pay taxes if the Fed can just print money?
> it would ‘tax’ house owners less than renters

It would tax house owners less than people who had same amount of money but didn't buy house and kept money in bank. If both house owner and renter had $1000 in bank, they would lose the same.
