If you need Google Workspace replacement then Zoho, if not Fastmail is better and less bloat.
alfirous··on A farewell to Arc browser
There’s Windows and Linux, but they stopped the development and open source it.

alfirous··on What’s getting pwned right now
Unnecessary information density.
alfirous··on Felix Rieseberg Homepage
Most studio or developer I know that works with 3D in web always use baked lighting. Realtime always cost more especially on mobile.

Einstein?

I would not call that excellent, decent maybe. Maybe we have different standard or taste. I myself like collecting landing page that I think great.[1]

alfirous··on Show HN: Guitoro, a virtual guitar you strum with your keyboard
Impressive, I test on old iPhone, it's works seamlessly!

Like other already mentioned, the orientation is bit odd, like you play with guitar facing you.

alfirous··on Show HN: Guitoro, a virtual guitar you strum with your keyboard
There's plenty virtual instrument that use keyboard as input, you can even modified as simple or complex. I don't remember the name but there's desktop Piano app and browser based virtual Drum.
alfirous··on Tells of a Slop UI
The visual is very on brand with the company name. Great works!

Even before AI, brutalist style is not that popular compared to flat, glassmorphism, skeuomorphism etc. Two popular website that use brutalist that I remember is Gumroad and Figma.
alfirous··on Apple's Dimensional Drawings
Someone in the community will, or already do it. 3D model of Apple product is easier to find than other brands.

Actually, I've been looking this kind of official drawing for practice product modeling and rendering.

> ...before, MacOS was a big factor driving me towards Apple - now, it would be hard for me to give up my Linux setup

I can relate to that. MacOS was my dream OS, even I installed Linux elementaryOS before I can get hand on Mac. Catalina is my favorite, I don't bother upgrade to BigSur and beyond. Now my Macbook is dead, I don't have reason anymore to get another one, maybe if Apple support Nvidia again somehow.

alfirous··on AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog
Now there's AI Corporate Memphis.
alfirous··on Darktable
Very steep, at least in my experience. Even compared to Cinema 4D and Blender which I grasp the basic just in 1-3 days. Darktable doesn't use industry standard UI/UX so you need learning from zero.
alfirous··on Map of the world's great castles and fortresses
Does it also apply to independent "eau" word in fragrance or perfume, like "eau" de toilet?
alfirous··on I joined the IndieWeb, here's what I learned
To me Indieweb just another name for personal website or personal blog. Since it's personal, I guess people can do anything to their website, including looking for job.

> Having a CV seems antithetical to the entire idea of indieness.

By that logic, Indie music artist can't sell their song.

alfirous··on Codex Micro
Work Louder the company behind this, is TE in mechanical keyboard industry.
alfirous··on Codex Micro
This one in collaboration with Work Louder[1] a company that specialized on mechanical keyboard. I don't see Jony Ive in this. Or maybe your comment is sarcasm, I can't tell.

alfirous··on Decoding the obfuscated bash script on a Uniqlo t-shirt
Duo is perfect middle ground between monospace and proportional sans, in my opinion at least. There's also Trispace[1].

alfirous··on Wordgard: In-browser rich-text editor from the creator of ProseMirror
This one if I recall also used by Payload CMS.
alfirous··on Maybe you should learn something
Curious, what's issues you encounter that LLM or Blender forum can't help? I also still learning Blender though not complex like yours (Product and Architecture), and LLM help me so much, it is save times that I previously will search on forum and YouTube.
alfirous··on Blogging can just be stating the obvious
This is why we (or I) tend to follow blog and website that resonate.
alfirous··on Vulnerability reports are not special anymore
That actually great idea. What payment method or processor used?
alfirous··on A website that lists websites to submit your website to
Very sad. I wish there's successor.
alfirous··on Hacker News but for independent blogs
Now one thing is missing for me is Hacker News for design. Something like Designer News which sadly is gone. The close I found is Sidebar[1] but do not have comments section for discussion.

alfirous··on Hacker News but for independent blogs
This is the best for me (pun intended). Less overwhelming than the default front page. And more discussion.
alfirous··on TinyWind: A pixel pirate sailing game with real wind physics (380k+ kms sailed)
I try on iPhone 8 it's feels smooth, even better than most website today.
