amazingman··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
Did you know he's actually qualified for the role he had? Do you even know what a board of directors does?
amazingman··on Meta employees said Lula's accounts were hindered during Brazil election
>Bolsonaro's coup never actually took place, and even if it had, it'd only be a reaction to the concrete actions of the supreme court.

21st century fascism, distilled.

amazingman··on Meta confirms smart glasses were recording without being activated
>People put meta cameras on their faces and go to the bathroom without take them out. Are they children?

None of your business. Nor Meta's.

>Are they poor souls without agency on their own?

None of your business. Nor Meta's.

>Are they retarded?

None of your business. Nor Meta's.

>By now everyone know what Meta does, if you choose to use their products and being spied on, it's on you.

Everyone on HN perhaps. If you think that of the general public, you vastly overestimate the average human.

amazingman··on Apple's new 'Switch to Safari' campaign details why you should ditch Chrome
That's a different topic.
amazingman··on Yandex outage: data shows that instead of going dark, malicious bots moved
Dogmas are bad and elicit the same wrongthink phenomenon you're railing against.
amazingman··on Apple's new 'Switch to Safari' campaign details why you should ditch Chrome
The implication was that website makers won't be forced to support Safari because they'll just decide to require Chrome.
amazingman··on Apple/macOS removed from official Unix registry
This is what flagging is for.
amazingman··on The Mathocalypse
Sounds a lot like using LLMs for coding ~18mo ago.
amazingman··on Powerless F1 drivers frustrated by Bahrain F1 software glitch
This is my first year paying attention F1 and I've noticed some major themes:

1. It's all very complex. 2. It's legitimately exciting to watch much of the time. 3. The favorite pastime of passionate F1 fans is complaining about F1.

amazingman··on The new Firefox design is here
How long ago did you try Zen? The recent releases have crossed the threshold for me. Specifically the syncing of all tabs across devices. I tried twice before in the past 12mo and bounced off both times. Currently I'm a few weeks in and I'm not switching back to Arc.
amazingman··on Dramatic insider warnings over AI fall flat with some in Silicon Valley
It continues to amaze me the lengths people will go to avoid the obvious.
amazingman··on Dramatic insider warnings over AI fall flat with some in Silicon Valley
Non sequitur
amazingman··on Navier-Stokes Announcement
And how is it bad optics? Seems to me it would be a good look, where OpenAI would appear magnanimous and interested in fairness rather than craven and sociopathic. Which is how they look now, regardless of your attempts to distract from this.
amazingman··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
That is pure fantasy.
amazingman··on Navier-Stokes Announcement
And what of the personal threats?
amazingman··on We must pace the frontier
We don't need every country to pace the frontier, just a certain few. And yes, I believe it's possible and the prior art is nuclear non-proliferation. Non-proliferation wasn't perfect, of course, but it was good enough (so far) to pull back from the brink of extinction.
amazingman··on We must pace the frontier
This smacks of "all information should be free" dogma. I for one prefer not to be ground into dust in service of producing more paperclips.
amazingman··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
And we all know how good OpenAI is at containing models during training...
amazingman··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Prove it. Your systems hack and/or abuse other systems and you can't seem to even observe it happening much less do anything about it. Why should we believe your claims when they depend on an ability you don't actually have?
amazingman··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
Sure. These are the other sides of the coin. I've been medicated for years and unmedicated for years. Currently I'm in a ~10yr unmedicated stretch. Do I have frustrating moments, embarrassing easily avoidable failures, and so on? Yes. Do I sometimes lose many hours to a task and forget to eat? Yes. But I'm also kinder, more playful, and more present with my loved ones when I am unmedicated.

If the downsides get too bad and things start to fall apart then I will medicate again. Until then, no way I'm making that tradeoff.

amazingman··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
I have found both hyperfocus and the ability to quickly "drop" (i.e. distract from) a train of thought incredibly useful.
amazingman··on GPT-6 Astra
Indeed some people think they want a machine guessing at your intentions and acting upon that guess. Those people Are wrong in at least 2 directions: that it is what they want, and their implicit assumption that it could possibly be safe.
amazingman··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
The same day I finally migrated from Arc to Zen. What a coincidence ^^
amazingman··on UC Berkeley indefinitely suspends international student work authorizations
Can you quantify the scale of it or not?
amazingman··on U.S. Urges Apple Not to Buy Chinese Memory Chips
The threat is not technical but systemic. It's about supply chain dependencies and further empowering a cutout of the Chinese military apparatus.
amazingman··on Delete DoorDash
Poe's Law aside: This is why government exists and must exist.
amazingman··on CFTC declares market emergency, orders Kalshi to continue to operate in New York
Insurance against loss due to ... paying for insurance? The language of the thing is compelling at first glance, but it doesn't actually parse. Sharing your gambling wins with patrons to attract more patrons is not insurance.
amazingman··on Stealing Reasoning Traces from Proprietary LLM APIs
I'm pretty sure essentially all HN participants understand that the frontier labs indiscriminately sucked up every bit of human output they could, IP and ethical concerns be damned. Some of that cohort may indeed be okay with it, but that doesn't change the facts.
amazingman··on The brain may be about to have its Ozempic moment
This smells a bit like a statement of faith. Digital neurons and neural networks are not the same as their biological counterparts, sure. But it is not an unreasonable proposition that their functions are isomorphic.
amazingman··on Stealing Reasoning Traces from Proprietary LLM APIs
They also have made a big deal about how what they did to build their models is not stealing. And we all know that's bullshit.
