I'm queer, I would never presume to say that another queer person's challenges or trauma were the same as mine.
Any list like this should be read as: "you are causing harm somewhere between a paper cut and a gunshot wound, you may not realize it. Be advised you might be causing that harm, in case knowing that would cause you to take a different course of action"
Prices seem to have fallen very very recently. Hopefully the upzoning helps more.
If so, then yes. (Assuming it didn't fall under accessory dwelling unit rules.)
That seems eminently reasonable. "Landlord plans $1m expansion of non affordable housing to help their family only" seems more reasonable to me.
If you are building big enough to need to hit the affordable housing regs, then you should commit to either providing affordable housing OR pay to make sure someone else can.
This is a story about a landlord trying to avoid having to help their community.
E.g., NYT shouldn't level this criticism because it could also be subject to the criticism.
Hard to tell with a written forum post.
I'm always surprised when it shows up on HN, because usually the crowd here is interested in factual, rational discussion rather than agitprop.
(I'll be the first to call the NYT a rag, as a leftist, but it's factually correct to say 4chan is linked with massacres.)
"we are working with a federation composed of 40 other anarchist groups. We elect a delegate and delegate small decisions to them, and they can be removed easily by the group."
"We have a safety officer on the factory floor who has the power to stop the work of others if there's a concern. They can be replaced easily"
"A teacher removing students who are disruptive to learning, but finding them alternative learning models."
An unjust hierarchy is when one person has power over another for no reason and whose power is self reinforcing or permanent. (A wealthy capitalist has more power, and gains power faster than a factory worker.)
I think incrementalism is a dead end too - at some point we need to make some hard cuts away from current systems, but it's self defeating to not acknowledge the material reality in front of us.
Pigs are truly awful: https://theintercept.com/2017/10/05/factory-farms-fbi-missin...
I have zero objections to eating meat, but factory meat is absolutely complicit in industrial suffering.
But we do have them. So using them as a tool, until we can replace them with something better, is fine.
And indeed, most anarchists are just "be a good neighbor, at scale".
Try instead, "a society free from unjust hierarchies". Most anarchists are comfortable with the idea of democracy, elections, and delegation of decision making. As long as it's consensual and democratic. Think of like, "hey, we need a treasurer to manage the finances".
Anarchism is not a unified idea. Anarcho syndicalism is different from Anarcho communism is different from Anarcho socialism.
