andrewfromx··on The Magic Behind Cubacadabra
new commit here: https://github.com/cubacadabra/tools/commit/662c18a43deafb5b...

Thanks this was indeed the wrong design. Now it has:

Game code can now do normal Luau imports like local Round = require("./round")

Cubacadabra SDK modules use aliases like require("@cubacadabra/shared-state")

.luaurc files maps the @cubacadabra alias for editor navigation/type checking

andrewfromx··on The Universe as a Minified Bundle
^ this one is perfect! Sounds almost 100% human authored.
andrewfromx··on The Universe as a Minified Bundle
totally. https://dontpastetheai.com/ all we want is to stop seeing obvious copy paste. Give me plausible deniability that it's human authored even though we all know nothing is human authored any more.

andrewfromx··on Pollen Robotics (Hugging Face) Microduck
i bought one about a year ago and used it for 20 days or so. Then I realised casio offered a full money back return for 30 days. And sorry little moflin your emotions were not real enough for me to want to keep you vs get $400 back.
andrewfromx··on Show HN: Buslens – where can I get to by bus? (UK)
the LA transit app is amazing these days. You can even pick an icon and when I see a bus coming I can see if a "friend" is on it. It's not like full on profiles and messages, just a unique icon you can pick from 1000's but I see the same lobster or alien over and over on routes I take. And it means they have the transit app open. So I step on the bus and look everyone in the eyes and try and see if I get lobster or alien vibes.

just got the https://www.stelo.com/ device. Doesn't hurt at all to install under your arm. The applicator just does this big SNAP! when you press the button and the filament goes under your skin but it's painless and no blood, it's not a needle at all.

andrewfromx··on Not hiring junior engineers won't solve the problem you think you have
I don't understand when he says "the job has changed to using agents but human judgement is still required" and then goes on with that assumption will remain true for our lifetimes basically. But the elephant in the room is that's going away very soon right?

Think back to 2024 and how your job has changed over the last two years. It went from science fiction to reality. And as engineers surely we understand the concept of expotential growth. It's not just us outsiders using claude to make our code but internal anthropic engineers are using it to make claude itself better. (Probably they also use openai and gemini to double check stuff!) And that's the expotential loop. Does anyone really believe in 2028 human judgement will still be the thing?

andrewfromx··on Show HN: EmergingRepos – finding repos that are just starting to get momentum
yeah totally. product hunt for repos is perfect way to describe it. Maybe that’s the name. Repohunt.dev ?
andrewfromx··on Ask HN: How do you show your free software projects to the world?
this gave me an idea: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48010902

what do you think? If this site helped you find exactly the repo where you could jump in and contribute would that like solve the itch you are trying to scratch?

andrewfromx··on Ask HN: How do you show your free software projects to the world?
ask yourself the tough question: why am I trying to make a brand new repo and get people to look at that vs. contributing to an existing repo that already has momentum?

https://ossinsight.io/

And there are tiers within all the repos there. You can find small niche ones and make PRs with your ideas. Much more likely to get use.

andrewfromx··on Ask HN: Why hasn't someone built a decentralized compute network?
decentralized is a funny thing. people often say they want decentralized and say that’ll be great! No one person/company in charge. But is that what people want? Usually they want some kind of benevolent dictator instead.

for this issue: https://www.pillar.security/blog/new-vulnerability-in-github...

the warning is great but they could do more. Like auto remove them when you clone? or an option in settings for that. The fear is someone will send me some cool new AI repo and I'll not see that warning and just clone it and start using it.

Another pilot agrees: this was software

"Boeing 787 to lose all AC electrical power due to generator control units simultaneously entering failsafe mode."

The aircraft computer uptime was 248 days. It needed to be rebooted. Yes, it that's stupid of a software bug.

A 2016 Airworthiness Directive requires "repetitive cycling of the airplane's electrical power system."

a Model 787 airplane that has been powered continuously for 248 days can lose all alternating current (AC) electrical power due to the generator control units (GCUs) simultaneously going into failsafe mode. This condition is caused by a software counter internal to the GCUs that will overflow after 248 days of continuous power. We are issuing this AD to prevent loss of all AC electrical power, which could result in loss of control of the airplane.
