andygmb··on FCC threatens to disconnect Twilio for illegal robocalls
I would love to know if TCR has actually made a meaningful impact to stop spam.
andygmb··on Finding a Creature in Ethereum's Dark Forest
Bug bounties paid for by the users :(
andygmb··on Nepalese student learns HTML, JavaScript, CSS using just a mobile phone
FWIW, this thread originally linked to a tweet from a Nepalese-based person who found it in a Nepalese FB group, hence the confusion. No ill intent.

andygmb··on Gabe Newell on brain-computer interface technology
In the area of BCI, what is the most "Science-Fictiony" thing you have seen made into a reality?
andygmb··on Flipper Zero – Tamagochi for Hackers
I believe in you guys! I know of this project through @Aquamine, she's a great artist!
andygmb··on Flipper Zero – Tamagochi for Hackers
Congrats on hitting your goal! What's it like watching the number go up?
andygmb··on Flipper Zero – Tamagochi for Hackers
The people involved in this are great, I don't have an interest in that kind of tech but I sent over a small amount.

Support people doing hackerspaces!

andygmb··on Richard Stallman on Data Autonomy [video]
In the video stallman states that nonfree software is in the control of the developer who owns it, which is true, but isnt a developer of free software equally in control of their software? I dont look into the source of every program on my OS, even though if i was to use 100% free software, I could. This means I am equally depending on the developer of the free software not to be malicious as I am the nonfree software.
andygmb··on A game made with CSS/HTML only
Not nearly as cool as OP's post, but I once created a 'game' with only CSS and HTML as well:

Street fighter rock paper scissors

andygmb··on Heim – A real-time community platform
There's a trend of seemingly reinventing IRC and just putting it into the browser with a "hip" UI as of late.
andygmb··on Recognising a Bad User Interface at First Glance
>Use of image-only icons/buttons that have no distinctive meaning

There's nothing worse than this, along with no alt-text on web pages. With font-icons being so common nowadays, designers want to remove all text and revert back to hieroglyphics.

andygmb··on Shutting Down a Service with 500M Requests per Month
> Switch to blockchain tech

What is "blockchain tech" in the context of mobile apps?

andygmb··on GitHub's down?
Understandable, but surely the potential disruption if github was to go down for a long time or indefinitely would be more than setting up a local git server that you control?
andygmb··on GitHub's down?
perhaps a good time to reconsider depending on a third party for your important services to deploy?
andygmb··on An open source engine clone of Age of Empires II
https://gist.github.com/Andygmb/1e3a6d9d444b2dfa8c40

I went and had a look for the AI I had seen before, here's it on gist if anyone would like to read it (it's 28,000 lines).

andygmb··on An open source engine clone of Age of Empires II
>Scripting AoEII maps with a decent scripting language has long been a dream of mine

Isn't the current AI scripting done in Lisp?

andygmb··on Manyland
Looks like you trust the client on their window.ig.game.O722.rank, which allows people to remove blocks at the center and trap people. Check area 2, I think.
andygmb··on ATM hack 'gives out wads of cash'
I fail to see how this is anything more than bad physical security. No malicious person should have physical access to the machine's internals.
andygmb··on GitHub Student Developer Pack
This would be so, so useful to me as someone who left college last year & has been self-learning programming since (college was for a CCNA-esque qualification). I applied, but I don't know if I will qualify for it.

Could any of the github people in this thread let me know if I have a chance? The Digitalocean, namecheap, hackhands would be so insanely useful for me.

EDIT:

Thanks to John Britton from github for manually approving my request.

andygmb··on Modernized time.h for ISO C (1998)
I feel like Tom Scott did a great job summing up the frustrations dealing with time (zones) in his Computerphile video:

andygmb··on Grindr chat protocol “completely insecure”, leaks users exact locations
See https://grindr.gay.cat/ for a demo on locating users.
andygmb··on Why does Outlook map Ctrl+F to Forward instead of Find?
Tom Scott touched on this in his Computerphile video -

andygmb··on Ask HN: Why would you disable JavaScript?
Wouldn't it depend on the type of audience you're trying to appeal to?

I would imagine the amount of people disabling JS would be a lot more coming from a site like HN, compared to say, pintrest. It would be worth making sure your site functions without JS if you know a lot of your audience will be disabling JS.
