ansimionescu··on Wayback Machine points to pro-Russia rebels in downing of MH17
This is the last straw. I'm done with this shitty community. Ciao
ansimionescu··on How to Read a Research Paper [pdf]
Not sure about that [0]. Can someone clarify?

ansimionescu··on How to Read a Research Paper [pdf]
Papers is a cool product / company based in UK (London IIRC).

ansimionescu··on Google offers free Android development Udacity course
I'm fairly sure you can use IntelliJ as well. Yep, there you go: http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/features/android.html

I wish tabs would have separate (non-shared) history. I did try this [0] but it doesn't work all the time (!?).

ansimionescu··on Show HN: A mostly complete 2014 "Tools of the Trade"
> Much of what is attributed to the rise of SaaS and "My Butt" is in fact a direct consequence of Amazon's infrastructure.

Gotta love #cloudtobutt https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cloud-to-butt-plus...

ansimionescu··on Show HN: Sobrr
This. I'm currently in Germany on the world's shittiest 3G connection, and anything over 10kB is a deal-breaker for me.
ansimionescu··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
Works fine on Chrome 35.0.1916.153 on OS X 10.9.4
ansimionescu··on Pinboard Turns Five
That's one of the essential features of a product idea I've had for quite some time. Freaky

Interviews suck, as incidentally does most of higher education. They exist for very well-established reasons, though, and it might be a wiser idea to try to improve them incrementally than to self-ostracise by outright ignoring them.

Anyway (as per my other comment in this thread) I maintain a list of interview resources for programmers (oriented towards companies like G/Fb): https://github.com/andreis/interview

If you want to fix fridges, that's perfectly fine, but at least try to understand why the people who build them might not be interested in hiring you.

ansimionescu··on Atom Now Available on Windows
I test-drove it for a while and it ended up replacing ST3 in my toolkit/workflow. Until I switch to vim completely, Atom is filling in the gaps quite well.
ansimionescu··on Show HN: Marketplace for Bootstrap themes and templates
Then don't say you're "a marketplace for Bootstrap themes & templates", but "jump" at your visitors with what makes you unique and/or better.

Btw: I really dig the smaller thumbnails, they make me feel I have a better overview over what's going on.

Edit: wait, that's just on the first page. Sigh. I don't really like large-ish thumbnails á la [0], especially in the retina age.

ansimionescu··on Farewell Node.js
Yep, that's exactly the kind of thing Googlers spend their time on. /s
ansimionescu··on Hydra: A lightweight OS X window manager with a powerful API
I'm a -big- huge fan of Spectacle, I've been using it for a long time now and couldn't imagine life on a Mac without it. There's worth noting that there's a plethora of similar apps out there:

On a more positive note, I just found out about 2600.

I'm as anti-sexism as the next rational human being, but I too catch myself doing this default-to-guy thing. Any idea why it happens?
ansimionescu··on Quickly – Giving email a mind of its own [video]
Probably should change the default background of the theme

ansimionescu··on A developer who spent 13 years making his childhood game
Windows-only sigh

How difficult would it be to port this?

edit: it's not a snarky, rhetorical, question – I really want to play this

ansimionescu··on New Entry Level 21.5-inch iMac
I bought an iMac in 2012 for £860 (student discount, original price £1000) and sold it one and a half years later for £600.

I also bought a 13" Sony Vaio S for around £1200 in 2011 and had to sell it 6 months later, because it was a total piece of shit. I got £650 for it.

So I'd argue that buying cheap plastic crap is in fact the non-budget option.

ansimionescu··on Regard, analytics made open and transparent
While interning at Red Gate I had Neil as my supervisor and I can attest to his capability and intelligence. Also, this product really scratches an itch for people like me who hate analytics and value privacy.

edit: I just noticed who's on the team. They're all stellar exº-Red Gate people. I sense great things coming for this project! Good luck, guys! :)

ansimionescu··on Dash – Beautiful instant offline docs for almost everything
My experience is at the opposite end of the spectrum. I installed it roughly one year ago, played with it and admired its functionality, then never used it since. It might be just that I'm way too connected to my Chrome tabs.

Funnily, I've just re-watched this video again today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZakKwQ-gFM

ansimionescu··on After Google bought Nest, it removed company’s biggest competitors from results
As someone who knows nothing about Pando, I'd love some more insight into why they supposedly suck.

(Speaking of shitty high-profile news site, my favourite pick is ReadWrie. 80% of what I've read on their site is utter garbage.)

ansimionescu··on Facebook: Do not release your new app feature that listens to users
Yep, sounds like a safe bet.

Random NSA employee reading this, please don't steal my shit. Thank you
