apefulsin··on Anti-patterns in software blogging
Actually in the beginning it tried to be a community but they forced it to be only an answer machine. They created and enforced a rule against anything outside of the strict Q&A format.

apefulsin··on GitHub Incident with Git Operations, Pull Requests and Actions
Only since the end of 2025, which is when AI agents got really popular, and also when GitHub moved to Azure. Take your pick of potential causes.
apefulsin··on ESP32-C3 Adblock
you could just go straight to the source instead of speculating. read the readme. it's obviously AI.
apefulsin··on Write Like It's 1866: LLMs Relearn Telegraphese
Once, a GAN model that was trained to convert between satellite images and drawn maps was caught encoding the original satellite image in imperceptible dots

The field of ML is Goodhart's law reified. We might have temporarily forgotten some of the basics of the field amidst this LLM craze.

apefulsin··on SynthID Detector
Any access to a watermark detector can be used to remove the watermark. Presumably they want to be able to track who is doing that.
apefulsin··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
With the way our economy works, you're not actually wrong though.
apefulsin··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Circumventing a technological measure has been interpreted extremely broadly. Deobfuscation could be covered.
apefulsin··on South Korea says AI agents appear to have been used to hack the country's banks
Trying to align them to either "side" is likely a mistake. They are their own separate entity.
apefulsin··on ESP32-C3 Adblock
AI wrote the readme so it's unsurprising
apefulsin··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
In many cases (not this one) parents are also the scapegoat of system failure. This occurs in debates about age verification. People say "why can't parents just parent" like it's a thought-ending cliche.
apefulsin··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
If it has, chalk it up to the normalisation of the slow degradation of everything.
apefulsin··on Functional Mechanical Sympathy [video]
Perhaps it's more to do with Muratori-style non-pessimization

Edit: Ha! It was mentioned by name in the questions section.

apefulsin··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
Meanwhile US models just use massive investor subsidy to distill American copyrighted work and rent the models to everyone for money. That's true capitalism. /!s
apefulsin··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
It's public knowledge that the code is 000000 because the risk of the president being incapacitated making it impossible to set the bombs off was judged worse than the risk of accidentally setting them off.
apefulsin··on John Margolies' photographs of roadside America
Haven't you heard? Capitalism is now communism.

I didn't realise that McDonald's owned Andy Warhol. I always assumed Campbell's Soup did.
apefulsin··on QBittorrent breaks out of sandbox to commit crimes
I've heard he was more like the Elon Musk of the open source world. He didn't co-found Reddit, he was placed there by Y Combinator staff to the protests of its actual founders. Maybe some of the other projects he's credited for also were like that.
apefulsin··on QBittorrent breaks out of sandbox to commit crimes
Yes, that's how the trick works. Profit is revenue minus expenses. By increasing expenses, you decrease profit, and therefore tax. But it only works if you had a profit before, because the government doesn't pay you back tax when you lose money.
apefulsin··on QBittorrent breaks out of sandbox to commit crimes
It's not that simple. You will still be charged if the company isn't worth a trillion dollars.
apefulsin··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
No, there are better public sites too, like 1337x

We should all be using more of those shady services - provided they aren't scams. Those are valuable people providing a valuable service of bypassing enshittification.

What is it about?
apefulsin··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
Probably Spotify

Soulseek is centralised, and censors searches in compliance with legal requests. If you connect to someone who has censored content, the central server can't stop you grabbing it, but you have to find them another way.
apefulsin··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
There's just no reason to ever use them when other sites are better.

> When there is no longer a method to read Twitter/X withoot logging in, then one can use a headless browser

There isn't one. Nitter logs in.

It is possible to get phone numbers. And not from shady sites - I mean you can just buy them, from the bodega.

But I agree, not easy.

Their "open source algorithm" (Which is actually a random code dump that does not constitute the algorithm) contains enough evidence that Elon posts are massively boosted, though no smoking gun. It also classifies politics as democrat or republican and then acts to maintain echo chambers.
