axus··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
Now I'm glad I've not opened VSCodium in a few weeks; I prefer using Claude as a separate application anyways, will have to remove the extensions. No evidence, but I do feel like the problem is going to be OpenVSX and not Anthropic.
axus··on LLM Voice
North Korea could make a "Dear Leader" device that lives in people's homes, and discusses how happy they are and answers questions.
axus··on Discord will soon let anyone find public server messages through Google
But they sure are upset now that Discord bans accounts based on reports to its thought police.
axus··on Should Police Wipe a Criminal's Cellphone Before Returning It?–U.S. vs. Stathas
That raises a question I'd never thought to ask: who owns a murder weapon, after it's been confiscated and the sentence fulfilled?

Or make it simpler, is an unlicensed firearm returned after the legal process? If not, who owns it?

axus··on In Leaked Audio, Flock CEO Tells Cops Backlash to the Company Isn't Real
Those are FBI agents, not Flock contractors
axus··on Anthropic S-1
They didn't use AI to write the prospectus...
axus··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Maybe it's useful for people spending money to present the odds they wish for?
axus··on Reforming English Spelling
How about backwards compatibility, support the new spellings as well as the old? We're sort of already in that situation with English vs. American English. Over 100s of years, the "natural" spelling will win out.
axus··on Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating
Would the AI have bothered to maximize the benchmark, if it hadn't been asked to?

"LLM" isn't the problem. Asking an LLM to explain cheating is a good goal. Asking it to "Maximize the benchmarks" reeks.

axus··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
Sometimes the public defenders actions are indistinguishable from collusion with the prosecution. The window to appeal can close before your sentence is over.
axus··on Tell HN: I unknowingly broke the PHP RCE embargo. I am sorry.
It does NOT mean "He agrees to settle any financial claims against himself or his employer, for damages caused by negligence".

Could have said "I blame only myself for this mistake, nothing else needs to change".

This will keep happening until the system where this can happen runs out of willing scapegoats.

axus··on SBD: We Have a Filesystem at Home
Like going to an "independent" restaurant and being served a McDonalds Spicy Chicken Crispy Deluxe . Good sandwich, but I could have just gone to McDonalds.

And if McDonalds started mass-producing the restaurant's signature burger, I would hope the chef has enough pride/business sense to make a new signature burger.

axus··on Crystal 1.22
There are Minecraft bots written in Crystal, which was the first time I'd heard of it.
axus··on Way to Play Super Mario 64: On Apple Vision Pro
It's obviously not "the best" way to play; seems like even a bad filtering rule is right twice a day.
axus··on Eight Bits of Trust: eMudhra's CA keys cracked in milliseconds
The infected devices on the LAN are an attack vector, though.
axus··on Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs
"The web" is fine, this is a problem for Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
axus··on Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
Also wild that if it can happen to Russia, it can happen to other countries.
axus··on Android apps running native on macOS
Variety is the Spice of Life
axus··on Tmux and Claude Code: Sessions, Send-Keys, and the Ceiling
Is it better if these are pure development servers, that are only used for Claude to create software?
axus··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
The lawyers should name everyone involved with unauthorized access to your computer as defendants , the obviously innocent parties can be dropped before it gets to trial.
axus··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
US Vice Presidents have a history of inventing important new computer technologies
axus··on Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men
China is a good example for the US and Russia for what to do.
axus··on Why is every rationalist blog post way too long?
I don't know if nicotine is good for you, but I've enjoyed all the parodies at https://morewrong.lol/
axus··on Nvidia's first GPU: GeForce 256
"The first video card called a GPU by a marketing department"
axus··on Google is silently linking your phone number across all signed-in accounts
Meta is worse, but easier to ignore.
axus··on AI models may soon self-replicate without access to data centers
I'd prefer if software I didn't authorize stayed off my computers. Everyone is already bad at computer security, it'll be like the days of computer worms on Windows 98 again.
axus··on Blood cells from 80-year-old donor become stem cells with molecular age under 20
That'll be the commoners' problem; they'll be planning out how to survive the next 300 years.
axus··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
The hardware vendor has long offered software updates. Unclear if the groceries were paying for support, they certainly weren't installing them.

Boeing still took the blame for MAX, when their customers didn't pay for training.

axus··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting in supermarket fridges across Europe
The margin is certainly blown, now
axus··on Show HN: PS2 games statically recompiled to WebAssembly
It looks like it's recovered to inflation-adjusted levels of the 1980s, while consumers have more music than ever before. Perhaps the percentage of the money going to large corporations is higher than before?
