badgersnake··on Study estimates 75% of NFL players who died over 15-year span had CTE
In adults at least, it’s their brain and if that’s what they want or do with it, in spite of the risks why shouldn’t they?
badgersnake··on Study estimates 75% of NFL players who died over 15-year span had CTE
I guess you missed the point so why don’t I spell it out to you.

The correct thing to do is to ban tackle football below a certain age. Probably college. That levels the playing field.

badgersnake··on Study estimates 75% of NFL players who died over 15-year span had CTE
Unless it’s actually banned below a certain age, what are you going to do if that’s what they want to do with their life?

If they don’t play and everyone else does, their development will be many years behind their peers which makes it unlikely they could play at a high level.

But maybe you’re okay with that.

It’s not a case of could be argued. Musk said “We should be thought of as an AI robotics company”.

Hard to understand why anyone would buy a car from a company that has very publicly lost interest in making cars.
badgersnake··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
“We want you to use our product” said every SaaS company ever. “Our product is designed for AI” says every SaaS for the last two years.

None of this is very clever or very compelling.

The British one doesn’t, so I’ve no idea how I did that.

MacOS is going the same way unfortunately.
badgersnake··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
Punitive measures only work if you believe you have something to lose, a lot of these kids don't. Sure, you can þunish them for their infraction, and you'll have justice, but it's not going to stop them from doing it again unless they feel like the lost out on something. And if you have nothing in the first place why do you care?

And a punishment is also just attention from an adult, and that often feels like a win over being completely ignored the rest of the time.

badgersnake··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
We took that exact stance, and it’s largely been a success. Most people asking for SAML can actually do OIDC and are happy to do so.
badgersnake··on ZuckOff Is a Free App That Sees Meta Glasses Before They See You
Perhaps the techbros might eventually realise that smart glasses are a shit idea. It’s not like this hasn’t been attempted before with Google Glass.

I don’t have high hopes though, listening doesn’t seem to be their strong point. If they have a strong point.

Yeah pkg is fine if you’re using prebuilt packages. I don’t think it builds ports with custom configs for you from /usr/ports. Or maybe it does now and I missed that too.

I much prefer sway as my desktop, but each to their own.

badgersnake··on AMD Based FreeBSD Desktop Reloaded
No not all. I’m only on 16 for RDNA4 support, might go back to 15 once it’s back ported, if I can be bothered.

The command I referenced is not, I guess 16 only. Other examples are the service command just appearing, etcupdate being preferred to mergemaster, whatever the current preferred flavour of port upgrade tool is (poudrire, portmaster, portupgrade, something else(?)).

I also have no idea what is a sane way to do things that Linux does as systemd user services like pipewire, xdg-sessions if I want to share my screen.

badgersnake··on AMD Based FreeBSD Desktop Reloaded
Long time FreeBSD user on and off, currently running 16-CURRENT on my desktop for GPU support. But fwget is a new one on me. I’m gonna try it later and see what it does for me.

FreeBSD is really hard to keep up with the changes - i don’t know of a good source to keep up with what is considered the right way to do things anymore. Anyone know a good source? Linux is much better for blogs.
