beardyw··on Meaningless as a laptop screensaver: reviewers slate Musk's AI-made Odyssey film
I didn't manage to watch all 7 minutes.
beardyw··on Whoops: Meta's Muse Share Links Disclosed All Sorts of Super-Sensitive User Data
> Meta has suspended the feature while they figure out why they screwed up.

Hmmmm.

beardyw··on Barclays to cut 5k jobs as bank's bosses hail AI productivity advances
.. and I've been pointing out problems in their (I guess vibe coded) website.
beardyw··on AI firms say UK has a year to head off datacentre protests
If all this contributed to digital sovereignty it would get more support.
beardyw··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now irresistibly good and cheap on-prem
Not surprising he says that, but it makes sense.
beardyw··on Europe's cloud sovereignty rules could do more harm than good
> Europe’s drive for cloud sovereignty is leading to member states favoring providers from their own nation instead of building a Europe-wide cloud services market

That's because they are countries and the EU isn't.

beardyw··on It's still OK to enjoy programming
Winston Churchill enjoyed brick laying. Programming is at least intellectually stimulating.
beardyw··on The Leap Second Is No More
Good point.
beardyw··on Accenture Tells Employees to Spend Only $29 on Claude per Month
Just don't let the markets hear that. Quiet now.
beardyw··on Ask HN: How do you avoid building verbose AI slop designs?
Maybe ask AI?
beardyw··on Ask HN: Is it time for a global one-child-policy and ban of thinking machines?
> Is it time for a global one-child-policy

If you are from a relatively affluent nation you have a deceased birth rate. Imposing it on others is a kind of ethnic cleansing.

> and ban of thinking machines?

We don't have thinking machines yet, and typically you can't legislate against innovation.

beardyw··on Ask HN: How bad Earth would have to be for terraforming Mars to make sense?
I always consider living on Mars or a space station to be much like living on a submarine, but without any time off. It seems likely that most people would go crazy, so even if you are not, others are. Your abiding question would be: what is the point?
beardyw··on AI Has a God Problem Stretching from the Vatican to the Baptist Pulpit
"... pointing to the Book of Revelation, the final part of the New Testament"

which suggests it is a conclusion whereas Wikipedia more accurately states:

"canonically the last book of the New Testament"

meaning it was placed there by those compiling the bible.

beardyw··on Fixated on AI, the world has forgotten it is staring at nuclear annihilation
If you didn't read to the end:

"Hiroshima is not a shrine. It’s the future."

beardyw··on Arena nearly doubles valuation to $3.1B valuation in 10 months
Thanks, I was wondering too.
beardyw··on Meta's Muse Is an Adorable Privacy and Security Dumpster Fire
First you would need to establish some sort of interaction. Probably with the same AI that spaffed your cash.
beardyw··on Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI bots
Is no one looking at the problem? It is not caused by Reddit, it is not caused by RSS, it's caused by misuse of something many of us value by/for AI. AI is not just biting the hand that feeds it, it's killing it.
beardyw··on Why copyright makes no sense
> It's added automatically

Thanks, that is what I thought, but I have never submitted a video.

To the OP, it's there for a reason, don't remove it.

beardyw··on Pilot on Tel Aviv-bound flight tried to crash plane after cockpit stabbing
Countries only exist at all because they have the means to organise their population to maintain their borders.
beardyw··on Why copyright makes no sense
You should add [video] to the title.
beardyw··on All Watched over by Machines of Loving Grace
Luckily he didn't live to see how deeply corrupted this world has become.

He shot himself.

beardyw··on Oxford University lets OpenAI train its AI models on Bodleian Library
I presume they won't be ripping the covers off.
beardyw··on Copyright Infringement Still Isn't Theft Even When Microsoft Employee Says It Is
A surprising but correct take from this site.
beardyw··on Amazon blocks Meta's Muse AI shopping agent
Maybe they couldn't trick the agent into signing up to Amazon Prime.
beardyw··on Do birds have accents? the regional differences in birdsong
Wood pigeon s don't say "my toe bleeds Be-tty". They say "I know I'm pretty". That's according to Chris Packham so it's true.
beardyw··on English: A vs. An
"Who are the noisy people outside?"

"They are some vendors" seems natural to me, suggesting that the group of vendors is known to the person answering.

beardyw··on On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog
2026 version:

On the internet nobody knows you're a human.

beardyw··on How, Exactly, Could A.I. Kill Us?
We have been doing that all of recorded history and we are still here. It would take enormous effort or a moderate environment change to kill us all.
beardyw··on The Coxon psyop was a decade and more than a billion dollars in the making
Didn't make it through the link but here's a Guardian article which mentions Musk's response and a link (if that's what this is?)

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/sep/10/anthropic...

beardyw··on Anthropic CEO says AI swarm could 'take over the Internet' in 6-12 months
AI companies are making no money so a crisis might divert attention.
