explores the challenges and considerations of integrating AI tools into human workflows, particularly in engineering and operations contexts.

I found it to be an interesting read.

bhanks··on The Internet of Beefs (2020)
I was watching an interview with Yayo and I didn’t realize until then that even a friendly greeting with someone that had beef with your in-group was considered a deep betrayal.
bhanks··on OpenAI asks White House for relief from state AI rules
Begs the question what the founder’s intent was with the 10th amendment. I’d say it covers AI until you get federal dollars tied to it.
bhanks··on Tell HN: How we bootstrapped to the #1 rated mattress on Amazon.com
Deahee,

Congrats!

bhanks··on Is Social Media Worthless?
Yeah I think the point is that if you are using it as a sales channel then you should measure it closely because it probably isn't doing as well as you think. Social media is just an extension of customer support in its most effective use case. You can see Lucidchart responds to customer questions via twitter for example.
bhanks··on Is Social Media Worthless?
ditto. There are huge problems in filtering authority with such a massive source of real-time information that is so easily gamed. The barrier to tweeting a link is magnitudes easier than putting up a new webpage. I would argue that the only real value they are getting currently is rel="author" information with plans for giving value to other signals later. I really think the SEO hype about social media is an extension of the hype the article talks about.
bhanks··on Is Social Media Worthless?
If there were any compelling counterexamples, they would already be touting them already. Glad someone is calling out the emperor for wearing no clothes. Hope this idea gets traction.
bhanks··on How we wrote our app for MS Office 2013
Thanks for the tips. Wordpress was being extremely uncooperative. Wasn't parsing <pre> or <code> properly. I will throw that .js script up on the next release. Thanks!
bhanks··on How we wrote our app for MS Office 2013
*per se

I can't speak to Excel integration, but I think people are doing that.

bhanks··on How we wrote our app for MS Office 2013
It is a diagramming app so it is really more useful to add into a word doc or powerpoint. What use case were you thinking of for Excel?
bhanks··on Web Framework Benchmarks
I guess it is a good thing we are finally migrating away from Cake :/
bhanks··on Why New Relic Is Raising $80 Million Now
I work at a lean startup. Sometimes the "email guy" is whoever has a free second.
bhanks··on Why bother with a CSS build process?
Might be that the poster had no previous posting or commenting history.
bhanks··on Interview with Lucidchart Founders
It is interesting to see what people are working on after they leave Google.
bhanks··on Using Scala to handle exponential growth at a startup
Been getting that feedback from others. If we did a followup article what specifics would be most interesting to know?
bhanks··on Why to Make Your App Free for Education
There is a free team account for educators they just have to apply for it.
bhanks··on Why Coke Cost A Nickel For 70 Years
Price change is not fundamental to economics. It is fundamental to a post-Fed inflationary policy that seeks for a low (or at least a consistent) unemployment rate. That being said I think this is a great case study of "menu costs" on steriods.
bhanks··on IE10: How does it really stack up?
My skills are a little rough and this is probably more than a company can devote to a browser war study but it would be interesting to see this benchmark run multiple times or as a Monte Carlo simulation.

Also - does anyone know what core runs at 50% in IE even when the user is idle? Not surprised to hear it but curious if anyone knows what it is.

bhanks··on My favorite regex of all time
well obviously people are interested in it. Can't fault you for trying to make a little scratch
bhanks··on Stackoverflow abuses nofollow (2011)
How is this news?

1. This post is from 2011 2. Google ended the ability to link sculpt a long time ago.

I would be interested in studies showing cases where link sculpting still worked.

bhanks··on Reimagining the Windows Command Line
Typing is always going to be faster than clicking around in an interface. Take the time to learn it. There was a time when command line was also for "mere mortals". What moved us away from that? Windows. Something to think about.
bhanks··on I am 35. Tried numerous but just can't grasp programming. Is it too late now?
ok what about how long do you think it would take to ramp up to where I could make a decent living doing it? Do you have to go back to school or should I just jump into a jr development position?
bhanks··on It's fine to get an MBA but don't be an MBA
Yeah I am forwarding this to my be an MBA bro in law. Hopefully he can snap out of it before he graduates. One can hope, right?
bhanks··on A rough guide to keeping your website up through catastrophic events
Is this an OK place to raise the debate between Mongo and mySQL? Thoughts?
bhanks··on Why I Chose Engineering Over Philosophy, And Other Thoughts on Wasting Your 20s
decent article but I think you set up a straw man of "unlike most parents". I don't know of anyone that has ever called the professor of their kid complaining about the grade their kid got. I guess I will chalk it up to another benefit of being raised in the midwest. IMO if you don't teach your kids the basics of cooking and car maintenance you are fail. ;)
bhanks··on Lessons Learned Launching My Startup on My Final Day at Wired
I am working for a startup right now and all these things are spot on. I am just glad I work for a company with great healthcare benefits.
bhanks··on 500,000 Chrome Web Store Installs: What We’ve Learned
I am not a huge fan of Dia. Besides the UX, not a fan of having to download.

+1 does anyone else see what I see? Linux diagramming app
