birdyrooster··on "Never, ever, no matter what, go to a timeshare presentation"
It's really not that bad, I just tell them there is no way they are making a sale, that they made a mistake to ever let me come, and they let me go early.
birdyrooster··on Prominent S.F. developers charged with bribery in widening corruption scandal
Ahh yes these pesky pretexts like regulations… look no further than China for what happens when one takes this to its logical conclusion.
birdyrooster··on Quake Brutalist Jam II
This was right when “zero tolerance” school discipline was in favor of administrators. Doing something like that could get you put in A) in school suspension, B) suspension or C) expelled where I lived.
birdyrooster··on Bored Ape conference attendees wake up with eye pain, vision loss

birdyrooster··on I designed my own keyboard layout. Was it worth it?
Do you have large hands? I was wondering if Colemak-DH has less utility for people who don’t feel the stretch is significant when using Colemak. I’ve been using Colemak for 11 years and it’s saved my wrists from RSI
birdyrooster··on Yann LeCun: AI one-percenters seizing power forever is real doomsday scenario
lmao you have to be kidding me
birdyrooster··on Talk-Llama
I don’t want to talk to anything in my terminal. It’s a shitty interface for that.
birdyrooster··on Tesla wins first US Autopilot trial involving fatal crash
The alcohol is a red herring and everyone knows it. Unless you have police verifying his BAC is over the legal limit, you aren't making a salient point -- you are speculating irresponsibly.

The car veered off the road like a maniac took the wheel, that maniac was software written by Tesla. I certainly wouldn't trust my family's safety with this, whether I had a drink of alcohol or not.

birdyrooster··on Tesla wins first US Autopilot trial involving fatal crash
tl;dr: Tesla won’t be held liable for misleading marketing or buggy software because humans are capable of being distracted
birdyrooster··on Southern California Beyond the Freeway
Another freeway-revolving city must be Houston but for the opposite reason because they engineered a truly massive multi-ring hub and spoke setup. Getting anywhere requires it given how spread out the city is and how hot and humid/rainy it gets.
birdyrooster··on I accidentally saved my company half a million dollars
> They can just be stock holders or launch their own company
birdyrooster··on I2P: End-to-end encrypted and anonymous internet
We will still need VPNs to get good connectivity to other residential ISPs until some government entity (or market condition) inspires ISPs to invest in more hardware and peering with each other. CDNs and VPN providers are now sadly a requirement for the internet to work the way we expect it to.
birdyrooster··on Americans' confidence in technology firms has dropped

birdyrooster··on Adam? ... is there a reason your laptop is in the fridge? (2006)
I used to overclock my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop and putting it into a mini fridge helped keep the Prescott P4 running cool for benchmarks.
birdyrooster··on Krita fund has no corporate support
I read this several times and I have no idea what benefit this would serve or anything about it.
birdyrooster··on Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded to Agostini, Krausz, and L’Huillier
Maybe it’s not Chinese but uses Chinese characters. Not all Latin character use is English.
birdyrooster··on Return to Office Is Bullshit and Everyone Knows It
They took our offices away while we were gone and got us to return to cubicles. It’s some cynical bullshit. I hate my job now because of it.

birdyrooster··on Desalination system could produce fresh water that is cheaper than tap water
Wouldn’t it make the cost of anything using power nearby more expensive too?

birdyrooster··on First Impressions with GPT-4V(ision)
Like on Apple Watch Ultra, when I press the start exercise button, the exercises that it suggests are in an order unique to my baseline activities.
birdyrooster··on I got robbed of my first kernel contribution
If I submit a patch and a maintainer (or anyone else) reads it and writes their own based on it, then they have edited my work. If they don’t attribute me at all, then they are plagiarizing. Maybe there is no law to protect me, but it’s social contract.
